"And before we begin our feast, we have one last student to sort. Please welcome Celeste Lovemare!" A man's voice boomed throughout the large dining hall.
Hagrid led me to the front. I could feel everyone's eyes staring at me as I reached the front. I was instructed to sit on a stool. An elderly woman placed a hat on my head.
"Hmmm, where to put you, young one. Hardworking, yes. Courageous, yes. Creative, very. Brave and at the same time cunning. Intelligent, patient, kind, and determined." The hat began to speak, startling me a bit.
"Features from all houses, hm. You are making it difficult, but better be Hufflepuff!" The hat finally announced.
I bounced off the stool and marched over to the cheering table. Everyone welcomed me all at once. I smiled and greeted everyone until the man from earlier called everyone to attention.
"Now all of our students have arrived and are sorted, let the feat begin!"
Magically, food of all kinds appeared on the table. I filled my plate with as much as I could stomach. Lamb, fruit, a few pastries, and that was all. I would have to call my friends later and tell them of my first night.
"Hey, aren't you going to eat more? There's an endless amount of everything here." A fellow housemate asked. She was older than me, I guessed a third year.
"No, this is all I can eat. Dancers have to keep a good figure, you know." I answered.
"Ah, a ballet dancer! How nice." A student from another table spoke up.
"Shove off, Dedworth. At least she participates in a respectful sport. Unlike you." The girl sneered.
"Whatever." Dedworth said and turned back to his food.
"Sorry about him. That's Darius Dedworth and a Slytherin. I'm Ameila Prescott, third year, with that horrid Dedworth." She said.
"It's fine. I'll just have to steer clear of him, and others like him. It's nice to meet you Ameila! As you may know, I'm Celeste." I grinned.
We talked as we ate. All too soon, it was time to go to our dorms. I followed Amelia and the other Hufflepuffs to our common room.
I found it strange when the House prefect led use down a corridor leading to the kitchens.
"Why are we going to the kitchens?" I whispered to Amelia.
"This is the hallway to our common room. Our room is quite different than the other houses." Amelia answered.
I watched as the prefect stopped at a pile of barrels. He tapped a rhythm on the barrel second from the bottom, middle of the second row. His rhythm sounded like 'Helga Hufflepuff' sounded out. I gussed that the rhythm must be the password.
Once reaching the girls' dorms, I was puzzled upon noticing everyone had a roommate except for me.
"Excuse me, Owen, where's my room?" I asked as I saw the prefect, Owen Pandit, getting ready to head to his dorm.
"Oh, you have a room to yourself. Apparently you parents wished for you to be alone. Good night."
I sighed and found my room. All my luggage was already in my room.
I decided now would be a good time to call my friends. I dialed their numbers and requested for them to enter as a confrence video call.
"Ceely! How are you!" Maddelyn's face appeared on my phone, another Muggle invention.
"I'm good, and you?" I grinned.
"Missing you." Maddie smiled.
"Aw, don't start the party without me!" Ava joined in.
"Never, Ava! Guys, you have to hear how my first night went." I grinned.
"Tell us!" They squealed.
"So, I was sorted into my house, apparently they separate the students this way. Then we went to dinner and what a feast! I would have eaten everything if I could. Tonight, juciy lamb, chicken and all kinds of meat were served, as well as an assortment of fruits and veggies. And the pastries! Pumpkin pie, mince pies, and these new treats called Treacle Tarts! They're like lemon tarts." I said.
"Aw, that sounds like a great school! If all the meals are served like that, then I wouldn't mind going there." Ava sighed contently.
"What are you going to do about dance, Ceely? Does your school offer dance classes?" Maddie asked.
"I'm not sure, actually. I'll have to ask. If not, I'll just have to find an empty classroom and practice. Or see if I have permission to leave the grounds to find another studio. Tell me, has Miss Cora announced what our modern dance song is yet? Have any of the others yet?" I answered.
"Not yet. But it's still early in the season. I think she wants us to first perfect these new dance moves for hip hop and modern before starting our recital piece." Ava said.
"And no, none of the other teachers have said anything." Maddie added.
"Oh. I wish I could be with you. But I'll see if I can call you tomorrow night. If I don't call, expect a letter." I sighed.
"Wait before you go, will you find some new friends?" Ava asked.
"I don't know. Maybe, but it's not likely. You know how hard it was for me to become friends with you two." I replied.
"Oh, right. But if you do, don't feel bad. You can't spen your entire life with us." Maddie joked. We all had a good laugh at that.
We soon all said our good nights and hung up.
