Potion Recipes
Chapter 8
Here I will give 3 potions and their recipes! Just a note, do not try to make these yourself unless you have learnt the proper way in class. These are for reference only.
Potion 1: Wideye Potion
Use/Effect: Prevents the drinker from falling asleep. Also awakens from drugging or concussion.
Brewing Time: 8 hrs (Copper Cauldron), 14 hrs (Brass Cauldron), 23 hrs (Pewter Cauldron)
Ingredients:
- Snake fangs (6)
- Standard Ingredient (4 measures)
- Billywig Stings, Dried (6)
- Wolfsbane (2 sprigs)
Directions:
Part I
- Add 6 Snake fangs to the mortar
- Add 4 measures of Standard Ingredient to the mortar
- Add 6 Dried Billywig Stings to your cauldron
- Heat on a medium temperature for 30 seconds
- Finally crush the ingredients that are on the mortar
- Add 4 measures of the crushed ingredients to your cauldron
- Stir 3 times, clockwise
- Wave your wand
- Leave to brew and return in 8 hours (Copper), 14 hours (Brass), or 23 hours (Pewter).
Part II
- Add 2 sprigs of Wolfsbane to your cauldron
- Stir 3 times, anti-clockwise
- Wave your wand to complete the potion.
Potion 2: Hair Raising Potion
Use/Effect: The Hair Raising Potion makes your hair stand on end
Brewing Time: 45 minutes
Ingredients:
- Water, boiling (200 mL)
- Rat tails, sliced (2)
- Billy wig stings, crushed (2)
- Spider legs (24)
Directions:
- Bring water to a boil & crush billy wig stings
- Add billy wig stings and spider legs and stew for 15 minutes
- Add rat tail slices and continue to stew for 30 minutes
- Remove from heat and cool before spritzing on hair
Potion 3: Basic Sleeping Draft
Use/Effect: The basic sleeping draft is to be used before bedtime in order to aid in sleeping. However, it should not be used longer than a week or two or one may start falling asleep at odd times of the day.
Brewing Time: 20-30 minutes
Ingredients:
- Water (500mL)
- Lavender (a pinch; crushed)
- Chamomile (a handful; crushed)
- For nightmares: purslane (a pinch)
- For more powerful brew: ginger (a pinch)
Directions:
- Bring water to a slow boil.
- Add lavender and stir 21 times, counter-clockwise.
- Add chamomile and let simmer for 20 minutes (potion should be pale, clear, purple with a tint of green, though the green may not always be observable)
For nightmares:
- Add a pinch of purslane and stir 5 times, counter-clockwise
For a more powerful brew:
- Add a pinch of ginger and stir 5 times, counter-clockwise
Notes: Potion can be stored for up to a month, though it is advisable to brew a fresh batch weekly.
