Waiting
Chapter 2
James Potter threw a glass bowl on the ground and watched it shatter. The sound of a crying baby echoed through the house, but he yelled over it. “I don’t care! He’s missing, Lily! Sirius could be dead soon! And it’s my fault!” Lily, who was standing by the door, pulled out her wand to repair the bowl. “It is NOT your fault. How many times have I told you this?” She sighed sadly. “And please try to be quieter. Harry can sense your stress over-” Suddenly, the fireplace roared to life as the face of Peter Pettigrew appeared in it.
“Attention. Sirius Black has been located. He is being held captive in one of the Lestrange Manors with several other Order members. A group of aurors can be sent out on the retrieval.”
James gasped. Peter, a Death Eater spy for the order, had been trying to find Sirius’s location for days. Apparently, Voldemort had been trying to keep it hidden from him because he didn’t fully trust his new recruit yet.
But they found him now. All he had to do was wait.
James did not like waiting. What was taking them so long? Why hadn’t they heard anything? Was Sirius going to be okay? Was he…? No. He wasn’t going to let himself think that. James let another tear fall down his face. It was all his fault. Sirius had suggested making someone else the secret keeper, but he had denied it. If anything happened, he just might give up. Except…
“James honey?”
“What!”
“They have him. He’s in St. Mungo’s now.”
