Chapter 8, Quidditch and Trolls.
Chapter 8
It had been a whole month since they arrived at Hogwarts and Cat was enjoying her dinner while Kade tried not to glare at Draco. They had just started talking when Professor Quirrell came into the hall with a look of terror on his face and his turban askew. Everyone except Kade stared at him as he reached Professor Dumbledore’s chair before he slumped against the table and gasped, “T—Troll — in the d—dungeons.” He then fainted, sinking down to the floor.
There was an uproar of voices that took several purple firecracker explosions from the end of Dumbledore’s wand to quiet everyone. “Prefects, lead your Houses back to the dormitories immediately!”
All the Slytherins followed their prefect down to the dormitories. “Cat, if the troll finds us, promise you’ll go hide.” Kade said, shaking slightly. “Only if you go with me. I don't want my only magic brother to die by a troll.” Cat said as they continued to get closer to the dormitories. He nodded and they finally made it back inside the common room. Suddenly Cat had a bad feeling in her stomach, Kade seemed to have the same feeling because he sat down not looking very well. “Harry’s in danger.” the twins whispered to each other in unison.
But there was nothing they could do to help him. Their prefect was standing in front of the wall they needed to escape through. They sat down and waited for the bad feeling to go away. He’s safe. Cat thought and she sighed when the bad feeling went away after some time. The twins went to bed a while later, Cat fell asleep almost instantly.
They entered the semi-cold November and their parents, and Bill, had sent the twins birthday cards and twenty pounds each. Today was the day of the first Quidditch match of the season. Slytherin verses Gryffindor, and Harry told the twins that he was the new Seeker for the Gryffindor team. Cat and Kade promised that they wouldn’t tell anyone about him being Seeker, but the information somehow got leaked. At the game, they sat next to Hermione and Ron. Madam Hooch blew loudly on her silver whistle, and fifteen brooms rose into the air.
That’s when someone started doing the commentary. But Cat didn’t listen to the person making random comments and instead focused on Harry. After a while Gryffindor scored and she, Kade, Hermione, and Ron cheered along with all the other Gryffindor’s.
“Budge up there, move along.” They heard a voice say.
“Hagrid!” the four shouted before they squeezed together to let Hagrid sit by them. “Bin watchin’ from me hut. But it isn’t the same as bein’ here in the crowd.” Hagrid said, patting his binoculars, “No sign of the Snitch yet, eh?” The other three continued to chat with Hagrid as Cat scanned above the field for Harry, before she caught sight of him.
Way up above them, Harry was gliding over everyone, still searching for the Snitch. When Gryffindor scored again, Harry did a couple loop-the-loops before gliding over the game again. He almost got hit by a Bludger but dodged it just in time. Then Harry dived down after a gold streak, the Slytherin Seeker, Terence Higgs, must’ve seen it too because he and Harry were now neck and neck. Harry was about to catch it —
WHAM!
The Slytherin captain, Marcus Flint, blocked Harry and there was a sudden roar of rage from the Gryffindors, and her twin, all around her. Harry’s broom spun off course and by the time he took control of it, the Snitch was gone. Cat sighed heavily as she slumped into her seat, Kade doing the same on her right. Some boy in the same stand as them was yelling, “Send him off, ref! Red card!”
He must be a soccer fan. Cat thought as Ron asked the boy what he was talking about. “Red card! In soccer if you get shown the red card and you’re out of the game!” The boy shouted in reply.
“But this isn’t soccer Dean.” Ron had to remind the boy named Dean. But Hagrid seemed to agree with Dean when he said, “They oughta change the rules. Flint coulda knocked Harry outta the air.”
Cat stopped listening to them because her eyes were back on Harry as he dodged yet another Bludger that spun dangerously by his head. Suddenly Harry’s broom gave a frightening lurch and for a split second he looked like he was about to fall. It kept happening, he was no longer in control of his broom, Cat started getting a very bad feeling in her stomach. He was going higher, his broom still jerking and twitching. People were pointing at him from the stands as his broom rolled over and over. She gasped when his broom gave a sudden jerk that knocked him off, he was holding on with one hand.
She ignored everyone talking around her and looked over to the teachers stand. “I’ll be back. Kade, stay here and watch Harry for me.” Cat said as she stood up and headed towards the teacher's stand, Kade nodded and looked back over to Harry while he clutched his stomach. Once she made it underneath the seat that Professor Quirrell was sitting on, she took out her stick and pointed it at the tip of Quirrell’s cloak. She then whispered, “Incendio,” under her breath and walked back to her seat.
“Where did you go?” Hermione asked Cat when she sat back down. “Just had to deal with a little problem.” Cat said looking back to Harry. He had clambered back onto his broom, speeding back to the ground before clutching his mouth. Harry looked like he was about to be sick as he hit the ground on all fours — he coughed a bit — and then something gold fell out of his mouth and into his hand.
He got up and waved his hand above his head as the game ended in confusion. He caught the snitch, by almost swallowing it? Cat thought feeling a little confused but happy at the same time. Gryffindor won the game by one hundred and seventy points to Slytherin with only sixty points. They were all in Hagrid’s hut as he made Harry a strong cup of black tea, she helped him so that he didn’t make it too strong.
“Cat, what exactly was the little problem you had to deal with?” Ron asked as she nearly burned her with hot water.
“No one seemed like they were going to help Harry when he started to barely hold onto his broom so I went and did something as a distraction,” she said as she continued to help Hagrid make the tea. Cat had caught the tea pot when Hagrid almost dropped it before she let them all fight about something she didn’t quite hear. She then poured herself and Kade some tea before Hagrid yelled, “I’m tellin’ yeh yer wrong! I don’ know why Harry’s broom acted like that,” I do. Cat thought, “but Snape wouln’ try an’ kill a student!” She sipped her tea quietly as she continued to watch them fight about who tried to kill Harry, Kade doing the same next to her.
“Now, listen to me, all five of yeh — yer meddlin’ in things that don’ concern yeh.” Harry could’ve died without my help. Cat thought as she set her tea down gently.
“It’s dangerous.”
“What happened to Harry was dangerous.” Cat muttered to herself, Kade seemed to hear her though.
“You forget that dog, an’ you all forget what it’s guardin’,” Cat heard Kade scoff next to her, “that’s between Professor Dumbledore an’ Nicholas Flamel —” Harry then said something but Cat ignored the rest of the argument until they had left Hagrid’s hut.
