Chapter 4, Finally at Hogwarts.

Chapter 4

Cat was in a hurry, she had forgotten to pack until the day she and Kade were supposed to go to Hogwarts. I hope I don’t make us arrive too late! Cat thought as she stuffed all her belongings she laid out weeks before into her trunk, Kade had already packed everything as soon as they got home from getting their supplies, she should’ve listened to him and packed as well. After she grabbed Serafina, who was inside of a cat carrier, and her trunk she went to the family car and they started heading to Kings Cross. When they got to Kings Cross she and Kade said in unison, “Goodbye mum! Goodbye dad!

“Goodbye Bill!” Once they had said their goodbyes, she and her twin went to find platform 9 ¾. They arrived between the platforms nine and ten just in time as Harry and a bunch of people with bright red hair arrived.

“Now, what’s the platform number?” said the mother of the red-haired group as Cat spotted a small girl holding the woman’s hand. “Nine and three-quarters!” piped the small girl, “Mum, can’t I go…”

“You’re not old enough, Ginny, now be quiet. Alright Percy, you go first.” The one Cat knew was named Percy, she’d accidentally ran into him a few times last year, ran straight towards the beam between platforms 9 and 10. She watched the boy disappear when he ran into the beam. “Fred, you next.” the woman said after Percy disappeared.

“I’m not Fred, I’m George,” said Fred, Cat was able to tell that he was lying from the way he was trying to hold back laughter. “Honestly, woman, you call yourself our mother? Can’t you tell I’m George?”

   “Sorry, George, dear.”

“Only joking, I am Fred,” he said as he ran up to the beam, his twin, the real George, called after him to hurry up. Cat watched as he ran straight into the beam and vanished. The third brother, George, was now walking briskly toward the beam, he too, vanished. “Is that where platform 9 ¾ is?” Harry asked the woman curiously. “Why yes, it’s the only way to get there.

“Just run straight through the beam.” The woman answered. “How about one of you three go before Ron here. Hurry now, wouldn’t want the barrier to close before you ran into it.” All four did as the woman said, Harry and the other boy, Ron, going before Cat and Kade. On the train, Cat saw Malfoy and decided it’d be better to sit with him since she actually, sorta, knew him.

“Harry, I’m going to go find a place to sit. Kade you can come with me if you want to.” Cat called to Harry and her brother, as she started walking towards Malfoy and away from them, Kade followed Cat through the crowd. “Hello Draco.” Cat greeted him once she was close enough for him to hear her. “Hello Cat, hello Kade,” Malfoy said once he found who said his name.

“Is it ok if we sit in the same compartment with you?” Cat asked, knowing Kade was probably not very happy at the moment. “Sure, it’s probably better for you two to sit with someone you know anyway.” Malfoy said, starting to walk in the direction they had just come from. Cat and Kade followed Malfoy through the crowd of people, when she suddenly felt her folded cat ears grow, making a small popping sound, out of her head. Seriously, she thought angrily as she pulled out her hat and put it over her fuzzy ears.

She also buttoned her long jacket to keep her tail hidden from the crowd; she could hear Kade doing the same behind her. “Ah, here’s an empty one.” Malfoy said, pulling himself and his luggage into an empty compartment. Cat followed him inside with her luggage, Kade closing the door behind them as Cat put her luggage up on a rack and sat down across from Malfoy, Kade sitting next to her once he too put his luggage on a rack. “When did you guys put those hats on?” Malfoy asked, staring into Cat’s eyes.

“My ears got cold, so I put my hat on,'' she said calmly, she’d answered this question many times at Hogwarts. “Mine also got cold.” her brother said as he fiddled with something in his pocket, which might’ve been one of his thin blindfolds. “Must be cold for you guys because you both buttoned your jackets.” Malfoy said as Cat nodded, looking out the window, pretending that the people outside were more interesting than continuing their conversation. Suddenly, she felt someone pull her hat off.

“H—Hey! Give it back,” she demanded, getting up to try to pull her hat out of Draco’s hands as he stood on his seat holding it above his head. “You heard her, give it back!” Kade said standing up also trying to get her hat back. “It’s not nice to lie to people about being cold so you don’t have to show me these,” and with his free hand he touched one of her folded cat ears, Cat bit him when he did that. “Ow!

“What was that for!” he shouted and pulled his hand back. “It’s not my fault, you touched my ears!” she shouted as she backed away, completely forgetting about the hat as she mumbled, “I’m sorry I bit you. At least I didn’t bite you hard enough to draw blood.”

“It didn’t hurt that much anyway.” Malfoy said, getting down and showing her his hand.

There’s no bite mark… she thought before grabbing his hand and turning it over to inspect the other side. Blushing hard, she let go of his hand when she realized she took it without permission, and sat back down in her spot hugging her knees, wishing she could be swallowed up by the seat. “Is something wrong? I don’t mind that you bit me, or that you grabbed my hand to inspect it.” Malfoy said gently, making Kade growl quietly at him.

He sat next to Cat and put his arm on her shoulder making her jump before Kade pushed him aside and started whispering calm things into her sensitive cat ear. Cat and Malfoy started talking about Hogwarts when she calmed down, Kade glaring at him the whole time, along with where the twins lived before stopping their conversation to put their robes on. “S—So you promise you won’t tell anyone about our ears and tails?” Cat asked Malfoy as she took off her jacket and put on her robes and hat. “I promise I won’t. It wouldn’t be much fun to talk about anyway,” Malfoy said as he finished putting his robes on.

Kade continued to glare at Draco as he put his robes on and re-adjusted his hat. About ten minutes later, Cat had woken up to Malfoy and Kade saying they were at Hogwarts. The three rushed outside the train to find Hagrid. “Firs’ years! Firs’ years over here!” Hagrid said over all the voices.

After all the first years made it to Hogwarts by boat, Cat and Kade went by carriage this year and were already sitting at the Slytherin table, they all walked into a really big room that was called the Great Hall. Cat remembered thinking that it was the most beautiful room she’d ever seen, the four tables with the different houses sitting there, the ceiling looking exactly like the sky outside the castle, and the big long table with all the few teachers sitting at it just at the end of the big hall. She knew that the ceiling was bewitched to look like the sky, but couldn't help thinking that there really wasn’t anything up there. “Do you think Harry’s going to like it here?” she asked, turning to her left where her twin was sitting. Kade just shrugged as everything went quiet when the headmaster, an old fellow named Albus Dumbledore, stood up at the teachers table.

“Welcome everyone new and old to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry!” said Dumbledore as she remembered being sorted just a year ago. “I am your headmaster,” I was so proud of myself for guessing correctly last year. I didn’t really know he was the headmaster, Cat thought, feeling warm from the memory, “you all may call me Professor Dumbldore. Before we begin the feast, let’s get all the first years into their houses where they will be staying for the rest of their time here at Hogwarts!” Dumbledore said with a smile on his face.

Cat didn’t really see what was going on because she was being pulled into her memory, but she did hear the Sorting Hat singing. Before she could fully dive into her memory, Professor McGonagall shout, “Malfoy, Draco!” She heard that Draco was put into Slytherin moments before she closed her eyes, letting her memory take over. She remembered that about five people's names were called before she heard her name. As Cat walked slowly to Professor McGonagall, she re-adjusted her old hat. Once she got up to McGonagall, she was told to sit on the stool in front of her, and as soon as she did, McGonagall put something big on her head, which she hadn’t known was the Sorting Hat at the time.

It had been so big that it fell over her eyes, making her feel a bit relaxed since she couldn’t see anyone’s stares anymore. Then she heard a loud voice in her head, “Hm… this one’s a bit tough. Has the heart of a Gryffindor and a Hufflepuff but the brain of a Ravenclaw and has a Slytherin family bloodline….” If it’s in my blood, wouldn’t it be better to go to Slytherin? Cat remembered thinking, wondering what made her feel like she needed to follow in her unknown family’s footsteps. That question had made the hat think for a few seconds before she heard it call out the word Slytherin and having it taken off her head.

Opening her eyes, she noticed Malfoy was sitting down next to her as she heard the name Hermione Granger be called, watching as the big old hat was barely placed on the girl's head before it shouted Gryffindor. It seemed that it’d shouted Gryffindor for Harry and Ron, though she hadn’t heard the hat since she’d been too lost in her memory. The headmaster made another speech and after his speech food magically appeared in front of everyone. After the feast and some dessert, they followed the Slytherin prefect to their common room. After an eventful night, Cat headed towards the girls dormitories that she shared with a girl named Allison Leaveston and two others she forgot the names of. After saying goodnight to her brother, she went to her comfy four-poster bed and fell asleep almost instantly.
