Chapter 3, Meeting the rich kid.
Chapter 3
Diagon Alley was a very peculiar place, they sold lots of things that Cat and Kade had never even heard of before Hogwarts. Cat was looking through the windows of the many shops when she remembered the day that Professor McGonagall had picked her and Kade up. She remembered that she’d immediately asked the professor, “What are we if we’re not normal humans?” McGonagall had simply told her that she was a witch and Kade was a wizard. The professor had also told them that “normal humans” were called muggles, or non-magical beings. Kade then asked her, “Do lots of witches and wizards grow animal ears?''
McGonagall had told them it was very rare to be touched by a creature that could give a witch or wizard the power to turn into an animal (or sometimes animals) at a young age, but explained that witches and wizards could study animal magic and practice turning into an animal when they were a bit older. After that last answer, Cat and Kade both had silently decided to keep their mouths shut the rest of the way. She smiled as she remembered how badly she hoped that their other questions would be answered at Hogwarts. Most of their questions were answered but there was still too much that they didn’t know.
Neither of them paying attention where they were walking, they ran into a tall man. When the tall man turned around, Cat recognized the man as someone named Hagrid. Behind Hagrid stood Harry Potter, the most famous person in the wizarding world. “Watch where yer goin’! Oh, it’s just you two.” said Hagrid.
“Lovely seeing you two here, thought you’d ‘ve shopped earlier. Don’ suppose you know who Harry is.” Hagrid said with a small, teasing, smile. “Actually Hagrid, we do know Harry because we live in the same neighborhood as him,” Cat said as she moved out from behind her brother. “Oh Cat, Kade, thank you for the notebook and pens, I’ve been wanting something to write in for a while now,” Harry said, remembering that he hadn’t thanked them for his birthday gifts yet. Cat gently smiled as a silent way of saying that it was no problem at all.
“I only got you those pens because Cat told me I should get you something nice and since I thought you probably didn’t have anything to write with.” Kade said, looking very proud of himself. After a bit more chatting, the four of them headed to a place called Madam Malkin’s to get their robes, Kade had grown out of his and Cat couldn’t trust him or herself to be alone. Hagrid stayed outside while Harry, Cat, and Kade went in to get fitted for their robes. Once they were inside, they saw a blonde haired boy getting measured for his robes, the lady measuring him was placing pins every now and then on the loose fabric.
“Are you going to Hogwarts as well?” asked a lady, who Cat knew was Madam Malkin, as she walked over to the three.
Harry nodded as she said, “I’m assuming you need new robes.” Kade answered her with a yes and she waved him over to another spot to measure him. That was when the boy looked up and saw the three. He scanned their faces before he said, “Your Harry Potter right?” Harry had simply nodded, probably wondering how the boy knew him.
“Are you three going to Hogwarts too?” The boy asked, Harry nodding as she said, “Actually, my twin and I have already been to Hogwarts.” He looked at her, scanning her face again, before saying, “I almost forgot, I’m Malfoy, Draco Malfoy.”
“Cat Brooks. It’s nice to meet you,” Cat said without looking Draco in the eyes.
“Kade Brooks. I’m Cat's more attractive twin brother.” Cade said, smiling, before getting poked in the arm by Madam Malkin.
“Which house do you think you’ll be put in, Harry? I think I’m going to be in Slytherin. After all, my whole family’s been in Slytherin so it would only make sense.” Malfoy said as the lady measuring him accidentally poked his shoulder with a pin. “I don’t think—” Cat said, Kade cutting her off as he said, “Oh cool, Cat and I are in Slytherin. Though I don’t know exactly why….”
“You don’t know about the four houses of Hogwarts?” Malfoy asked, ignoring her twin.
Harry shook his head and Draco sighed before telling him all about the four houses, Ravenclaw, Hufflepuff, Gryffindor, and Slytherin. “So, which one are you thinking you would fit into most?” Malfoy asked again after he was done explaining. It took so long for him to explain that Kade and his robes were now done and Harry was now being measured. “Um… I’m not sure,” Harry mumbled.
“It doesn’t really matter right now, Harry. Not like you might even have a choice like I did.” Cat said, not wanting him to stress about his house placement. “Yeah, it doesn’t entirely matter right now, Harry. It’s just a bit good to know which one you’d like to be in just in case you’re given a choice.” Kade said as he watched Harry get measured, holding his new robes in their parcel.
Harry told Cat and Kade in a whisper that he would rather be in any house that wasn’t whatever house Malfoy was put in, making her look at him with curiosity. After Malfoy had left, Harry got his robes first; they went back into Diagon Alley to find that Hagrid had bought Harry some ice cream. “Goodbye Hagrid!” Cat said as they began to go back to the Leaky Cauldron.
“Bye Harry! See you both at school!” Kade said as the brick wall opened up behind him.
Back at home, Cat was playing with her kitten. She loved her kitten’s beautiful black fur with brown spots all over her back. She really liked the single orange stripe that went from the top of her kitten’s head, down to the tip of her little pink nose. Meanwhile, Kade was in his bed petting his Muck. “I’m home!” their father said, somewhere downstairs.
“Come on Serafina, let’s go greet my dad.” Cat said to her little furry child, picking the cat up before walking quickly down the stairs. “Father, guess what?” Kade said as he brushed past her. Their father, a yellow-ish blonde, lightly tan man, turned around to face them.
“You finally found your parents?” Father said, his tone telling her that he was joking.
Their mother, a tan, light brown-haired woman, smacked him on the shoulder. “Mum, his jokes don’t hurt me anymore. I’m fine now knowing that Kade and I were adopted, it doesn’t make me feel different anymore.” Cat said, her kitten clawing her way onto her shoulders.
