Chapter 1, The leopard and the children.
Chapter 1
It was a cold winter morning inside the forest when a little girl entered her mother’s room, her blonde hair almost touching the floor behind her. She was walking towards her mother’s bed to do something important. She needed to wake her mum so that she could have breakfast and so that her mum wouldn’t be late for work again. She stumbled as she walked, stopping once she was close enough to say, “Mummy, it’s time to wake up and eat.” When her mum didn’t wake up she repeated herself louder. Her mum groaned and turned onto her back.
As she sat up, the young girl watched as her mum's long white hair slowly fell to her back. “Your pony-tale fell down again mummy,” the girl said pointing at the leather string on her mum’s bed. “I was wondering why I could feel my hair touching my back.” The mum said, smiling at her daughter. “Let’s go make some breakfast before
daddy gets home.” the mother said as she got out of bed and picked up her daughter.
Stuck in her high chair, she watched as her mum made pancakes and cheesy eggs, her dark brown eyes following her mother’s every movement. Her mum had just given her a small pancake and some cheesy eggs when she heard the door open. “Daddy’s home mummy! Daddy’s home!” she said with her mouth full of eggs and struggling to get out of the high chair. “How are my two favorite girls doing this fine morning?” The father said walking into the dining room.
His short white hair was covered in snow. “Did you talk to the Elders while you were gone?” the mother said as she prepared a plate for her husband. “No, not yet. Don’t give me that look Robin, the Elders are very busy with things that are more important than… them.” “My friends are more important than the war treaty with the Mountain Clan.
“I fear that they are in danger and if the Elders aren’t going to do something, I’ll protect them myself,” the mother said as she set her and her husband’s plates on the table. They continued their chat during breakfast, only stopping their talk when the mother had to get ready for work. About an hour after breakfast, the mother left for work, transforming into her leopard form, which was white since it was winter, when she closed the door. It was now eight o’clock at night and Robin was walking back towards her little cabin in the forest. On her way home, she heard something crying in the distance. She was tired from working all day and needed to return to her daughter and husband, but her instincts told her to transform into her leopard form and head towards the crying anyway.
When she got closer to the sound, she froze. It was her human friend's twins, crying in a bush. Seeing no sign of other humans, she transformed back into her human form and, knowing what would happen when she did, gently picked up the crying children. The one on the right was a girl that had dark green eyes, at least before Robin touched her that is, and was swaddled in a pink blanket with a little black hat with cat ears on it, her dark brown hair just barely sticking out from underneath it. The one on the left was a little boy that had yellow eyes, that started to glow a little when she picked him up, and was swaddled in a blue blanket with a little tiger hat on, his dark brown hair also poking out from underneath. The little girl stopped crying when the leopard picked her up.
But the little boy didn’t stop crying. As soon as she picked up the children, there was a glow where she touched the little ones. She didn’t even notice the glowing though because she was too busy reading a letter, that was written in her peoples alphabet, left by their mother and father. Once she read the letter she followed their parents' requests and started walking towards human civilization. After a bit of walking, she spotted a nice neighborhood near her own in a place she knew was a place called Little Whinging. She couldn’t read the sign since as a part-leopard, part-human creature, she was never taught how to read most human words, so instead continued walking down the street, looking at the front of every house she passed.
After a bit of walking, she spotted a place that looked perfect for the children to live. It was a home with boxes outside of, meaning that either the humans were moving into or out of the house. She could smell some things that belonged to another little human child, so she set the now sleeping babies down on the doorstep. She took another letter her friends had left in the bush and tucked it into the little girl's blanket before saying her goodbyes. As soon as the leopard was sure the babies would be ok, she transformed and ran back to the forest, knowing she needed to get back to her daughter quickly. There were tears falling down her face as she ran away from the only two of her friends she could help protect.
