Chapter 3

Welcome back to Rainbow News! In today's issue, two significant Pride Parades are happening; one in Jerusalem and one in Bangkok.

On Thursday (June 2nd), about 7,000 people went to the Jerusalem Pride parade/march. This was the 20th anniversary of the event, and it was very meaningful--not least because they were marching in spite of death threats. One of the organizers, Emuna Klein, recieved a message saying "We will not allow the Pride Parade to take place in Jerusalem. Jerusalem is the Holy City. Shira Banki's fate awaits you." Shira Banki was stabbed to death in 2016. This year during the parade, ten "counter-protesters" were arrested because of suspicions htat they could cause violence. A total of 180 people were also being monitored for similar reasons, but only those ten were actually arrested. Despite all this, the parade was as loud and proud as ever, and a pretty great 20th anniversary. Learn more about this here!

Bangkok will be having its first Pride Parade tomorrow! There won't be a mini-issue tomorrow (there'll be the regular, full-size one instead), so I thought it would be best to include this here. Same-sex marriage is not yet legal in Thailand, so hopefully this will shed some light to the LGBTQ+ community there! Learn more about this here!

That's all for Rainbow News today!
