Charm... or Harm?
Chapter 7
After lunch was their final lesson for the day. Double Charms. The three trio and Albert entered the classroom to find Professor Flitwick standing on a few books that were on a chair.
‘Good afternoon, everyone. No need for books today. I just need you to get your wands.’
People started putting their books back in their bags and getting their wands.
‘Thank you.’
The tiny Professor started handing out empty cups. When he gave Olivia one, he also gave her a wink.
‘You will need to fill this cup with water, then we will proceed onto filling a whole bowl with water,’ he said. ‘The incantation for this is- yes Ms. Bluesky?’
‘The incantation is Aguamenti.’
‘Indeed. Five points to Ravenclaw. Now, proceed. You already learned about this in your fifth year!’
There were many shouts and splashes of water.
‘Ah, Professor Snape told me you practised nonverbal spells. You might want to try to do the incantation nonverbally, it is easier!’ squeaked the Charms teacher.
Isabell, Amelia and Olivia had already filled their cups and bowl with water. Albert was attempting to do it noverbally.
‘Well done girls!’ said Professor Flitwick. ‘Ms. Bluesky, I’d like to see you do it non-verbally!’
Isabell had done it non-verbally. What’s more, she made the water look like different animals and made them move before it splashed into the cup.
‘Amazing job Ms. Bluesky! Fifteen points to Ravenclaw.’
Suddenly, someone groaned.
Everyone looked around to see Draco draped in icy water. Isabell, Albert and Olivia laughed, but Amelia didn’t. In fact, she looked angry at them for laughing.
‘Don’t laugh,’ said Amelia, her arms crossed.
Albert, Olivia and Isabell eyed her in surprise.
‘What?’ snapped Amelia. ‘I only said don’t laugh! You would do that for a friend, wouldn’t you?’
They shrugged and continued working in silence until Professor Flitwick talked.
‘Alright everyone! That’s it for practice. Now, we are going to take a new spell. It’s called Reducto. Can anyone tell me what this curse does?’
Isabell and Albert raised their hands.
‘Hm, let’s give Mr. Foxglove a chance this time.’
‘Reducto is a curse that blasts solid objects to pieces. Unlike some other spells, it always emits blue sparks.’
‘Excellent Mr. Foxglove. Five points to Ravenclaw!’
Isabell rolled her eyes when Olivia smiled at him, though Amelia stayed silent, still mad that they laughed at Draco, who wasn’t even focusing and was playing with his quill uncontrollably.
‘Guys, Amelia’s looking at Draco,’ whispered Albert to Oliva and Isabell, pointing at Amelia.
Indeed, Amelia was looking at Draco in a sad way. Olivia and Isabell eyed her suspiciously.
‘Now, you will do the curse on these objects that I’ve just conjured,’ Professor Flitwick said as he pointed at the dummies in front of him. ‘Who would like to go first?’
Isabell, Hermione and Olivia raised their hands, though Isabell was the fastest.
‘Alright then, Ms. Bluesky.’
Isabell got up from her seat and faced one of the dummies.
‘REDUCTO! ‘
Isabell did it so strong that the dummy was blasted into very tiny pieces, smaller than expected.
‘Marvellous, marvellous. Ten points to Ravenclaw. Now, Ms. Granger?’
Hermione didn’t surprise anyone when she blasted the dummy perfectly.
‘Ten points to Gryffindor! Now can I have someone who hasn’t raised their hand? How about you, Ms. Clearwater?’
Amelia looked at the Professor, a little confused. She then realised she had to blast the dummy.
‘REDUCTOH!’
Amelia misspelt it, her wand had blue smoke at the tip.
‘Not focusing were we, Ms. Clearwater? I will give you homework to practise this spell.’
Olivia and Isabell looked at her worriedly.
‘Class dismissed! I’d like you to practise the wand movement!’
They exited the classroom, Draco rushing out first.
‘Why were you looking at Draco? He made you lose concentration and now you have extra homework!’ Olivia demanded.
‘None of your business!’ said Amelia angrily.
Olivia looked shocked. She grabbed Isabell and Albert’s hands and walked ahead of Amelia.
‘What’s with her now?’ Isabell said as she looked back.
Olivia shrugged. Amelia was looking down. She then passed them quickly without looking at Olivia or Isabell. Albert looked at Amelia then Olivia grabbed his shoulder and made him face forward.
‘Olivia, you don’t have to grab me like that. It actually hurts sometimes.’
Olivia rolled her eyes and Isabell smirked. They entered the Common Room after answering the riddle.
Amelia walked after them slowly, avoiding looking at them. She went up to the Dormitory.
‘Do not lick the floor!’ Olivia yelled.
‘Someone made the floor taste good,’ Isabell said.
‘I’ll murder them.’
Olivia used a spell which made the floor filled with dust. Students spit it in disgust. She then removed the dust and continued reading a Potions book.
‘Great way of telling them not to lick the floor,’ laughed Isabell.
Olivia grinned.
‘We need to write for Snape that twenty inch essay about nonverbal spells,’ sighed Albert as he got some parchment for them. They silently did their homework as the quills scratched the parchment.
Amelia was in the room, thinking deeply. She was thinking about the secret she saw. Had Voldemort really assigned Draco a mission? If so, who was he assigned to kill? And a question that bothered her the most was: Is Draco a Death Eater? She had noticed that he kept scratching his lower left arm constantly.
Did he get the Dark Mark?
Amelia curled her lips, unsure of what to believe. On the first day of school, she had heard Harry Potter saying something to Hermione Granger and Ronald Weasley.
‘I'm telling you, Draco is a fully fledged Death Eater! Did you see how Mr. Borgin was so shook out when Draco extended his left arm? Death Eaters get their mark on their left arm! Ron, Hermione, don’t interrupt… I know Draco is a Death Eater… I have all the proof I need to tell you that he is a Death Eater! He showed Mr. Borgin the mark, he seems to never be in the Marauder’s map- yes, Ron, I checked it after the trip to Diagon Alley - and for the last time… Draco Malfoy is officially a Death Eater!’
She decided to go to the Room of Requirement, since she wanted to find something that might be there.
