Alone... or Not Alone?

Chapter 16

Amelia rushed out of the office, searching for Draco. She tried to knock on the Slytherin Common Room door, but was greeted by real serpents. She ran away as fast as she could and finally stopped at the boys’ bathroom.

He could be in there.

She opened the door, which made a quiet creaking noise. The floor was covered in water. She hid behind a mirror and saw that the taps were open. There was a squeaky voice.

‘It’s alright, don’t cry…’

Amelia recognised the voice… Moaning Myrtle.

‘You don’t know how I feel,’ another familiar voice spoke; it was very unsteady and they were quivering and shaking.

She then noticed platinum blonde hair.

Draco?

Amelia gasped quietly. She tried to see more of Draco, but she didn’t want him to spot her.

‘You’ll be fine… it’s alright-’

‘No-no-no… he’ll kill me…’

Amelia heard a soft sob. She wanted to go comfort him but she was afraid he would get mad. She risked it and walked towards him. He spotted her in the mirror.

‘You again…’ said Draco, wiping some tears.

What is she doing here?’ Myrtle shrieked, floating from the floor and her face mad. Amelia looked surprised.

‘It’s fine,’ Draco said as Moaning Myrtle looked outraged.

Amelia looked even more surprised.

‘Draco… what’s this?’

Draco’s hair was wet, he had tear marks on his pale cheeks.

‘I can’t… I can’t… He’ll kill me…’

‘What happened?’ Amelia asked again.

‘My first plan failed… My second plan… will-’

Amelia patted him gently on his weak back.

‘It won’t fail... It will work,’ she said softly.

And then out of the blue, red sparks broke the window next to them, sending glass shards flying everywhere.

‘What?’

Amelia turned her head and saw Harry Potter, his wand pointed at Draco’s direction. Draco saw him from the mirror and drew his wand.

‘I know what you did, Malfoy!’ yelled Harry as he was about to hex Draco.

‘Harry, no!’ Amelia shouted, horrified.

Draco pushed her aside, making her hit another mirror which broke into tiny pieces. She had little scratches on her arms. She saw the two boys duelling aggressively.

‘Stop! Stop it!’ she shrieked as a spell bounced on the mirror and crashed into another mirror which smashed.

Harry and Draco ignored her and mirrors kept breaking. Harry’s spell missed Draco by inches.

SECTUMSEMPRA!’

Harry hit Draco, making him yell and collapse. Suddenly, blood came out of Draco. He was shaking and sobbing. But there were no wounds. It was as though invisible swords went through him. He was shaking and was shivering.

‘Draco!’ Amelia shouted as she walked towards him.

She bent down even though there was blood on the floor.

‘MURDER! MURDERER IN THE BATHROOM!’ Moaning Myrtle screamed.

Harry looked petrified and Amelia glared at him. The door blasted open and Snape appeared, ignoring Harry and ran over to the badly hurt Draco. He sat on the bloody water on the floor and took out his wand. He muttered unclear incantations and the blood slowly disappeared.

‘Clearwater, Potter, stay here. Don’t move.’

He made Draco stand up and float. He seemed to have been tied with invisible ropes.

Amelia stared nervously while Harry looked stiff.

‘Wh-what did you do-?’

She then stopped. She remembered that in their first year, Snape had used the curse on Olivia when she was an animagus. She also remembered that the blood oozed everywhere like Draco’s.

It’s called Sectumsempra…?

‘Did you know what it did?’

Harry shook his head guiltily.

‘I found it in this book- It was owned by someone called: The Half Blood Prince. It’s a Potion’s book. The book we got this year.’

Amelia shrugged then walked a metre away from Harry and sat down on the wet floor, which she had dried with her wand.

Several quiet and stressful minutes later, Snape came in, looking murderous.

‘Clearwater, don’t talk. Potter, go fetch all your books.’

‘My books?’

‘Your books inside your bag, Potter. Now.

Amelia could see that Harry couldn’t resist the dull black eyes. He ran from the bathroom, leaving Amelia and Snape alone.

‘Why were you in the boys’ bathroom Ms. Clearwater?’ Snape asked as he cleared the blood off the floor.

‘I was looking for Draco. To continue helping him.’

Snape’s expression didn’t change.

‘You have to tell me everything Draco has told you Ms. Clearwater.’

Amelia looked extremely nervous.

I couldn’t betray Draco! I have to keep it a secret!

‘You couldn’t betray Draco?’

Amelia froze.

How on earth did he know I thought that?

‘Ms. Clearwater, let me tell you that I know Legilimency and Occlumency. Don’t think you can lie to me. Now… tell me what Draco has told you.’

Amelia couldn’t lie to Snape. And even if she does, he will know. She was about to speak when-

‘I got my bag, sir.’

Harry returned with his bag, where his books were.

‘Give it to me,’ said Snape as he snatched the bag out of Harry’s shaking hand.

‘This is your potions book?

‘Yes sir.’

‘Then why in your book does it say: Roonil Wazlib?’

‘It’s my nickname sir,’ Harry said without hesitation, ‘That my friends gave me.’

‘Don’t lie to me! I know how nicknames work!’

Snape then stopped talking and Amelia saw that his eyes turned sad.

He then looked at Harry, then he seemed to be back to consciousness, for he threw the book in Harry’s hands and stormed off, leaving him and Amelia alone in the bathroom.

‘Detention every Saturday until the end of the term, Potter!’ Snape yelled from outside.

‘Goodbye, Harry,’ said Amelia as she left the bathroom and headed to the Hospital Wing, leaving Harry alone.

Isabell was behind the door, listening to the whole conversation. She looked horrified as she took off the snakeskin cloak off her shaking body. She pressed her bracelet and got out the book. She started writing quickly to Olivia everything that happened.
