Slug Club
Chapter 12
It had been rumoured that Professor Slughorn was inviting people over to his office for parties. He called it: ‘Slug Club’.
‘I think it’s stupid. He only invites famous people or the children of people he knows. Besides, he’s distracting us from our homework,’ Olivia said as they sat near the fire in the Common Room.
‘I think it’s amazing! Imagine the food there,’ Isabell said. ‘But… I still don’t understand why you won’t tell us why you skipped the match.’
Isabell looked at Amelia suspiciously.
‘I can’t, like literally can’t.’
Amelia suddenly smirked.
‘He banned me from speaking about the m-’
Her mouth shut tight.
‘The what?’ asked Isabell eagerly.
‘The m-’
Amelia sighed. Olivia shut her book loudly.
‘Stop doing that!’ Isabell groaned.
‘Isn’t it obvious? He’s banned her from speaking about the mission.’
Amelia nodded, relieved that Olivia figured it out.
‘Then do you know the counterspell?’ Isabell asked.
Olivia shook her head.
‘We’re going to have to go to the-’
‘Library, got it.’
‘Though I don’t want to see that Librarian. Only thing she cares about is if the books are not damaged. I think she should leave this school and marry a book! They’ll certainly live a happy life if the book isn’t damaged,’ said Olivia, rolling her eyes.
‘She probably married the books already,’ joked Isabell. ‘She sticks to books like a gecko sticks to walls.’
‘Will you both stop criticising an old woman and go to the library already?’ Amelia asked impatiently, trying to hold her laughter.
Isabell and Olivia nodded and started exiting the Common Room.
The trio headed to the library. The first thing they heard when they entered the library was-
‘THAT IS A BOOK YOU KNOW! DO NOT DAMAGE THE COVER! I WILL HAVE YOU EXPELLED IF YOU EVEN MAKE A TINY DAMAGE TO A PAGE!’
Amelia, Isabell and Olivia passed the librarian. Olivia eyed her and tried to smile toothily.
‘It’s you. The girl who always comes here and reads the books without taking care of them! Look at this!’
She got a book and shoved it in Olivia’s face. There was a scratch that was less than a centimetre. Olivia cleared her throat.
‘So what should I do? Make a funeral for it?’
The librarian stayed silent as they went to search for a book.
‘What are we looking for exactly-’ Isabell began.
Olivia had already gotten a book, which was very heavy, and placed it on the table. It made a loud thud, making the librarian scream again.
‘WHY WOULD YOU PLACE IT THAT HARD-’
‘The Book of Counterspells. Do you reckon that there will be a counterspell for whatever Dr-’
‘I think there is a counterspell for what Draco used,’ Olivia said as she flicked the pages quickly.
Isabell spotted a page and Olivia stopped at it. The page read:
The counterspell for the part silencing charm is: Loqui iterum, it can only unmute some of the person’s talking.
The wand movement is: Up - Down -Left -Right
‘Well, that seems easy,’ said Amelia as they finished reading the page. ‘Do it now!’
Amelia looked excited.
‘Yeah, do it Olivia!’ agreed Isabell eagerly.
‘Ok, here goes nothing: Loqui Iterum!’
Amelia froze then unfroze, but before she could say anything-
‘HOW DARE YOU USE A SPELL IN THE LIBRARY! OUT! OUT! OUT!’
The librarian looked livid.
The girls ran for their lives and back to the Common Room.
‘That- that was a tiring run,’ said Isabell, panting.
‘Yeah…’ replied Olivia, she was looking nervously at Amelia. ‘So did it work?’
‘I dunno, let me see. Draco wants to-’ but she froze again.
‘Oh... I thought it would work...‘
Olivia looked disappointed.
‘It does work but- I have to go!’
Amelia ran out of the Common Room and to Hogsmeade.
