Chapter 4
And finally, welcome back to Community Highlight! Today, we have a beautiful poem about Pride written by Aimée Rose. They also have a book published in the library, which I highly recommend! Now, without further ado, here is their poem.
"Pride
Pride is not knowing where you belong
In the biggest community in the whole world.
We know that we’re everywhere,
In every town, every school,
But sometimes it’s hard to find people this “cool”.
Sometimes we see you with a rainbow badge,
Wearing your pride on your sleeve like a flag
Flying high in the air while we’re stuck down below,
Not having the courage to be open, to let everyone know.
Pride is someone telling their friends
That they have new pronouns, wondering if this is the end,
Because when you turn your back, that’s not what you hear,
Until someone else interrupts, correcting your ear.
Sometimes your mum seems to not care,
Then remembers the month and as you stare
She gives you a cake with a rainbow on
And you wonder why it took her this long
To realise who you are inside,
Even if the name she still uses isn’t right,
Because you can tell that she’s trying but it just doesn’t feel fair
That she gets the easy job, watching from there.
We struggle and suffer, almost every day,
As people fail to address us in the right way,
Or assume who we like, that we love someone at all,
But I still have hope that we can survive through the fall."
Thank you so much Aimée for sharing this with us!
Remember, if you would like your work featured in Community Highlight, just owl me and it will be arranged!
And as always, have an amazing day and a fabulous Pride Month!
