Part 2: Amelia Clearwater
Chapter 9
Amelia Clearwater was exceedingly smart; she wasn’t a bookworm like Olivia though. She had short golden-blonde and straight shoulder-length hair, with light blue eyes. Her skin was porcelain, and she was quite skinny. She lived in a large mansion with her parents. Her parents weren’t exactly what you would call caring parents and her stepmother hated her, but otherwise it was fine. But they weren’t awful like Olivia’s aunt and uncle. Amelia’s stepmother barely ever came home or spent time with her, like a real mother was supposed to do. She, Amelia, was the only child Mr. Clearwater had. Her real mother was killed by Voldemort (You-Know-Who)’s followers when Amelia was just five years old. Amelia would always remember what her real mother’s last words to her were.
What did I do that made me have such an amazing child like you?
After her mother’s death, Mr. Clearwater never talked to her, and a few days later he came home with a woman who had a slightly beige skin, wide grey-blue eyes and brown, wavy hair. They had a wedding ceremony and Mr. Clearwater didn’t even let Amelia come. He didn’t even ask her about marrying her stepmother. The thought always made Amelia cry angry tears.
Unlike Olivia, Amelia knew all about magic because she was raised in a family of magical people. Her father and stepmother always ordered her to do things they could handle. They both worked at the Ministry of Magic and they were in really high ranks.
But, she was really excited when her father told her that he was placing her in Hogwarts, the school of her dreams!
‘Amelia, go look for my wand!’ barked Mr. Clearwater, coming into her room without knocking.
So much for a little privacy in this mansion.
‘We’re heading out, Amelia, on a date! Go get your things from Diagon Alley alone!’ shouted her stepmother from downstairs, cackling.
Amelia was excited to attend Hogwarts. She was especially happy because she wouldn’t see her stepmother for almost eleven months. She was going alone to Diagon Alley to get her things as her father and stepmother were too busy to help. She was clutching the Hogwarts acceptance letter that she got and headed off. When she got to The Leaky Cauldron thirty minutes later (she walked there alone), she went to the back and tapped a brick with her real mother’s wand. She kept that wand with her at all times to remind her of her real mother and hid it from Mr. Clearwater, because he would get mad everytime she would mention her. Well, Amelia got sad anyways when someone mentioned her mother, so she didn’t really talk about it. She went to Gringotts first to get the money from her parent’s vault. As expected, there were thousands of coins and goblets. Then, she headed to Madam Malkin's Robes. She looked at the list of robes she had to buy:
Please buy all of these robes- necessary clothes:
Three Sets of Plain work robes (Black only).
One Plain Pointed Hat (Black only) for day wear.
One Pair of Protective Gloves (dragon hide or similar).
One Winter Cloak (Black, silver fastenings).
Please note that all student's clothes should carry name-tags at all times.
‘Hello, dear,’ Madam Malkin beamed, who was a squat and smiling witch, as Amelia entered the shop.
‘Good morning, Madam Malkin, I’m in my first year so I'll need plain Hogwarts robes, please.’
‘Sure, dear. Just step over here until I find robes that fit your size.’
Amelia got her robes and was so excited to get her pet owl, that she skipped everything in between and got her owl first. When she entered the magical pet store she ran to the owl section. When she first saw the owls, she knew right away which one to pick. There were many choices but she knew this was the one. The one she picked was white and it was as fluffy as snow.
‘I will name you… Bianca!’ said Amelia cheerfully. ‘That means ‘white’ in Italian by the way,’ she whispered to her owl. Bianca chirped happily, apparently gleeful about the choice of name.
After she had bought her owl, Amelia got the rest of her school supplies, her books and all the necessary items.
