Valentine's Ball

Chapter 57

‘Guys! An hour and a half before the Ball!’ Isabell yelled.

‘I’ll see you soon Olivia!’ Albert said as he rushed to the Boys’ Dormitory.

The girls ran to their room and instantly got changed.

‘Amelia, have you decided who you’re going with?’ Olivia shouted.

‘Oh uhh- I’ll decide later!’

They continued to get changed and made their hair.

When they finished, they looked at each other in awe.

‘We do come up with the best outfits, don’t we?’ laughed Amelia.

She was wearing a one shoulder dress that reached to the floor.  It was ruffled and was pure white with pink highlights at the shoulder. The dress had hearts at the bottom with all shades of red. She was wearing glass pink heels. Her hair was extra smooth and was braided in the middle, though the rest was down.

Olivia was wearing a halter dress that was cherry red. By her waist was a big white bow which had soft pink highlights. The dress also reached the floor.  She was wearing white heels with red dots. Her hair was as a side plait, and she tied her bangs with a clip.

Isabell on the other hand, was wearing a wrap dress that reached just under her knees. It was pink in colour with red stripes that were slightly thin. She was wearing a lot of bracelets that were white and red. She was wearing red slippers that had pink bows on the front. Her hair was a twisted ponytail which started as a french braid. The hair band had a white bow.

‘Albert will surely like that,’ Isabell said, looking at Olivia in awe.

‘Oh, shut up!’

It was now seven thirty.

‘Guys, we need to go to the Hall!’ Olivia said as she ran to fetch Albert.

‘Wait for us!’

Albert was waiting for them. He was wearing a dark red suit with a crimson red bow tie that had white hearts. His hair was messier than ever, but it looked good on him. He wore black, polished shoes. When he saw Olivia, his jaw dropped.

‘Hello.’

‘Hi-’

Albert bowed clumsily and Olivia laughed.

‘So, shall we proceed?’

Olivia nodded and took his slightly sweating hand as they exited the Common Room.

A tall boy entered the Common Room.

‘Hello, Roger,’ said Amelia as Roger gaped at her.

Roger was wearing a pure white suit, a red tie and polished black shoes. His straight brown hair was coolly wind-swept.

‘So, uh-’

Amelia looked at him calmly, as though she knew what he was going to say.

‘Do-do you want to go to the ball with me? I know you are probably already going with someone but-’

‘Oh, no. I’m not going with anyone.’

Roger smiled.

‘So is that a yes?’

‘Hmm, yeah- Ok, sure.’

‘Isabell, are you sure you want to go alone?’ Amelia asked as she looked at Isabell.

‘Yeah, I’m fine with it,’ Isabell shrugged.,

‘It’s 7:45, let’s go,’ Amelia said.

Everyone rushed to the door and exited. They reached the Hall, where Olivia and Albert were already waiting there.

‘Hello guys-’

‘YOU WENT WITH ROGER DAVIES?’ Draco shrieked as Pansy (who was going with him) looked surprised.

‘Yes, Draco.’

Draco huffed and walked away, Pansy following him.

‘This isn’t Draco, what’s wrong with him?’ Isabell said as she looked at the mad Draco.

‘I dunno-’ Amelia looked nervous.

The clock finally struck. It was 8:00. Excited talking filled the surroundings. Then a calm and clear voice spoke.

‘Welcome everyone, to Hogwarts’ first ever Valentine's Ball!’

The doors opened to reveal The Great Hall, which no longer had the four tables. There were only white chairs and a big empty space in the middle. On the side of the hall, were food of every choice on a long table. Isabell stared at the food. But it turned out that she wasn’t staring at the food, she was staring at…

‘Ron?’ Olivia asked. ‘Are you going with someone?’

But Isabell was already rushing to him. He looked at her and waved.

‘She’s been invited by Ron?’ Amelia asked, surprised.

Ron and Isabell were laughing and eating as much food as they could, while Hermione, who didn’t go with anyone, stared at them in jealousy.

‘Do not eat the food Ms. Bluesky and Mr. Weasley,’ a cold voice said.

It was indeed Snape, wearing his usual black cloak but with pink boots. His hair was tied in a messy way.

Amelia, Olivia, Albert, Roger, Isabell and Ron tried to hold back their laughter.

‘Y-yes sir,’ Isabell said as she and Ron ran away, then they howled with laughter.

‘Good evening everyone! I assume you are all hungry, but first there will be a dance!’ said Dumbledore, winking at Ron and Isabell.

Olivia, Amelia and Isabell gaped at him.

‘A DANCE? I NEVER DANCED WITH ANYONE!’ Olivia suddenly shrieked, making Albert jump in surprise.

‘I know how to… I can teach you- I-if you want, I mean,’ he scratched his head.

’If you don’t teach me, I’ll die from embarrassment!’

Albert laughed and started telling Olivia some basics.

‘Can you dance?’ Roger asked Amelia.

‘Y-yes, my… mother taught me a little bit before she, uh-’

‘You don’t have to talk about it if you don’t want to,’ said Roger, raising and lowering a shoulder.

‘Ok, but the question is… Can you dance?’

‘Yes. But don’t make fun of me if I fall,’ joked Roger.

Amelia laughed.

‘I don’t want to dance, I want to eat,’ Isabell huffed.

‘Same thing!’ Ron said as they both stared hungrily at the food.

Olivia and Amelia rolled their eyes. Suddenly, calm music started playing and Professor Dumbledore and Professor McGonagall started to walk towards the empty space, which was sparkling.

‘You may begin to dance!’ he said as he and Professor McGonagall started dancing.

‘Should we dance?’ asked Albert nervously.

‘I think I’m ready.’

Olivia and Albert stared nervously at each other and were the first students to go to the platform. Albert put his hand on Olivia’s shoulder and he anxiously asked Olivia to put her hand on his waist. They then danced in a simple way. They moved their feet a little. Albert then held Olivia’s waist and Olivia held his shoulder. Then, surprisingly, Albert held Olivia by her waist and lifted her up. Olivia gaped at Albert, who smiled. They were then swishing and twisting about as students applauded them. After a while, Amelia and Roger walked towards the platform. Amelia smiled toothily at him. He smiled back. They  were turning for a while. Then they were swishing from here to there. Then, Like Albert and Olivia, Roger carried Amelia. She then did a hand movement. Soon after that, almost everyone had gone to the platform and did their technique. Only Isabell and Ron weren’t dancing. They were too busy eating spaghetti with sausages. Isabell noticed Hermione looking sadly at them.

‘Ron.’

Ron was too busy finishing his spaghetti.

‘RON!’

‘Hm?’

‘Can you dance with Hermione? She seems lonely.’

Hermione overheard this, and smiled at Isabell’s back.

‘Oh, uhm- Sure, but will we get to eat after the dance though?’

‘Of course!’

Ron awkwardly walked towards Hermione, who stood up and walked with him to the platform. Every boy was carrying a girl as they did a majestic hand movement. The song finished and the boys bowed and the girls curtseyed.

‘Now that we have finished the Dance, we may begin the Feast! Oh wait, not now, (Isabell and Ron groaned) you shall have a ten minute rest!’ Dumbledore said as everyone started sitting on chairs near fountains that were shooting hearts instead of water.

Amelia, Roger, Isabell, Olivia and Albert sat with each other. They were all pink in the face and tired of the dancing.

‘I’m never wearing heels to a ball again,’ Olivia said as she took off her heels to massage her feet.

‘The food is amazing, you’ve got to try it,’ Isabell said as she looked at the long table.

Everyone laughed. Then they stopped, for they heard loud echoing shouts. Olivia, Amelia and Isabell immediately stood up.

‘No, Olivia! Wait!’ Albert said as he tried to stop her. ‘Don’t-’

But Olivia ignored him and followed her fellow friends out of the Hall and just outside the Gates. They saw Snape and Professor Quirrell. Snape looked paler than ever, while Professor Quirrell looked shocked.

‘Quirinus, I’m warning you…’ Snape said in a dark, low voice.

‘B-but S-Severus! I-I d-d-didn’t harm a-anyone!’

Amelia, Isabell and Olivia looked at each other in surprise.

Snape then suddenly opened a red carriage which was next to him. There was a boy and a girl.

Out.

They ran away in fear.

‘Now, listen here Quirinus. I’ve been suspecting that you set a troll free in the dungeons. It almost killed three children. Have you got anything to explain?’

‘I-I d-didn’t set a troll f-free in the dungeon! I w-would never harm ch-ch-children! You are a-accusing me w-without any p-proof S-Se-Severus!’

‘But soon, I will find all the proof I need,’ Snape said as his black cloak twirled.

Snape was walking their way. They quickly hid somewhere else as they watched Snape’s pale face.

‘Professor Quirrell set a troll free?’ Amelia said, very confused.

‘I’m sure Snape is accusing him for nothing. As Professor Quirrell said, Snape’s got no proof whatsoever,’ Olivia said as they walked towards the gate.

‘Exactly, why would a teacher harm any students anyways?’ Isabell said.

Amelia shrugged and didn’t look convinced.

They entered the Hall and walked to the boys, who were waiting for them.

‘Olivia, don’t walk away like that! Someone could have expelled you if you weren’t careful!’ Albert said as his kind face turned red.

He then breathed heavily and closed his eyes. Olivia looked down.

‘I-I’m sorry, it’s just that I was so curious and-and-’

‘Whatever…’ Albert said, avoiding eye contact with Olivia.

Roger didn’t say anything as though he expected Amelia to wander off and try to find out about something. Amelia looked sadly at Olivia, who was very miserable, and then at Albert, who was looking at Olivia.

‘I’m sorry, I shouldn’t have gotten mad at you. I was just scared.’

Olivia looked up at Albert as she rubbed her eyes. He walked towards her and they hugged for a second of two.

Several heads turned in their direction, and they gave everyone an awkward toothy smile, looking embarrassed as Isabell put her hand over her heart.

Amelia laughed as she patted Isabell.

‘And I thought you said there was so much drama on Valentine’s day!’

‘May the Feast begin!’ Dumbledore said suddenly as pink chairs were put near the long table, which was now covered with one large white sheet.

‘FINALLY!’ Ron and Isabell yelled at the same time as they ran towards the food.

Everyone laughed as they walked towards the table. There were so many food choices, such as: Meatballs and rice, Burgers and hotdogs, ramen, (‘RAMEN!’ Isabell shrieked as she immediately went for the ramen) bean-stuffed sweet potatoes and salmon. After everyone seemed satisfied and their stomachs full, they wondered what was going to happen next.

‘It’s good to see that you have enjoyed the food, we should thank the amazing house elves for that! Now, can the Weird Sisters play their Valentine’s song?’

The Hall buzzed with excitement.

‘Who are the “Weird Sisters”?’ Olivia asked.

‘They are probably the most famous magic band in the Wizarding World!’ Amelia and Isabell said at the same time.

Suddenly, a stage started forming in the corner of the Hall. Then, when the stage was fully formed, eight men appeared. They were all wearing matching pink suits with red ties. Their hair (which almost reached their shoulders) was tied in a messy way.

‘Happy Valentine’s day y’all! Let’s get ready to shake your bodies!’ The man in the front said. The band immediately played their instruments. Their instruments shot hearts at the awed audience. Everyone was soon dancing wildly. Part of the song was:

‘I wouldn’t live without you, you

Don’t make my heart feel blue, blue

You always make me warm

In my stomach is always a swarm

Your beautiful eyes, they make me smile

And I love it that you got some style

I wouldn’t live without you, you

So don’t make my heart feel blue, blue

Did you know that I loved you?

Because I knew you loved me too...‘

Olivia and Albert were dancing together while Amelia and Isabell were dancing and jumping. Roger had told Amelia that he had to go do something extremely important.

‘Alright everyone!’ Dumbledore said as the song ended with a high-pitch note.

Everyone stopped dancing and looked at the Headmaster.

‘Once again, happy Valentine’s Day! I hope you all enjoyed this night, now off you go to your beds. Chip chip!’

Amelia told Olivia and Isabell that she wanted to find out what Roger was doing and she suspected he might be up to something. She heard a gentle voice and another one. The voices were coming from behind one of the fountains. Amelia made sure she removed her heels so that she wouldn’t be heard.

‘Cho…’

‘Yes?’

Then there was silence. Amelia tried to look at what was happening. She clasped her hands to her mouth to avoid herself from gasping loudly. Roger was holding her back with his two hands and Cho’s hands were holding his neck. They were kissing passionately, so passionately that they were gripping each other so tightly. Amelia was trying so much to not laugh. They were literally glued together.

‘Roger, you could’ve just told me you were waiting for her and she didn’t come so you just went with me,’ Amelia whispered to herself, grinning.

Amelia shook her head and decided to let them be and headed to the Common Room.

Everyone was very tired.

Olivia, Albert, Amelia and Isabell sat by the fire, all groaning.

‘So, where did Roger go?’ asked Olivia, her eyes closed out of tiredness.

‘Uh, he was doing some, uhm, important things…’ Amelia shrugged.

‘Snogging for example?’ Isabell said, smirking.

‘Well, yes.’

‘With who?’ asked Albert uncomfortably.

‘Cho.’

Everyone started laughing. After they had stopped laughing, Albert went to his Dormitory to get changed and sleep and the girls did the same. They removed their cute dresses and wore their cosy pyjamas.

‘That was one of the best nights ever,’ Isabell said as she collapsed on her bed.

‘You only liked it because of the food!’ Amelia laughed.

Olivia had just returned after she bade Albert good night. She ignored both of them and instantly collapsed on her warm bed.

‘If either of you wake me up, I will not let you see the light of day,’ Olivia groaned.

Amelia and Isabell laughed loudly. They all felt really sleepy and bade each other good night. Each of the girls was now sleeping peacefully on her bed.
