Meeting Hagrid

Chapter 48

Amelia had tried not to act mean, she usually only did when the Slytherins were around and watching her. After giving her stomach some very warm lunch, she went to the school grounds and towards the hut. The sky was dark and clear. She walked past the pumpkin patch and smelled the fresh smell of the orange pumpkins. Pitch black crows were sitting on the pumpkins.

‘I think this is the place,’ whispered Amelia to herself.

She looked at a small, wooden hut. Then she knocked on the wooden door, and as she did a booming voice called.

‘Who’s that?’

‘It-it’s me.’

‘Me who? Olivia?’

‘Uhh- no, her friend.’ (Amelia twitched uncomfortably).

‘Isabell Bluesky or Amelia Clearwater?’

‘Umm… Amelia.’

‘Oh well, come in, come in!’ Hagrid boomed as he opened the door. As soon as Amelia came in, Fang (Hagrid’s dog) attacked her ears, trying to lick them.

‘Umm… is that a way to say hello?’ Amelia said, scratching the dog’s ears. ‘What’s your name, boy?’

‘The name’s Fang, Olivia should’a told yeh that.’

‘Olivia doesn’t tell me anything these days…’ said Amelia sadly.

Hagrid looked very curious.

‘That's the reason why I’m here, Hagrid. You’re the only person to talk to.’

‘Sure…’ Hagrid said interestedly.

Amelia spent almost 20 minutes explaining everything from the beginning of the Christmas celebration until she had ‘pretend’ joined You-Know-Who and that Olivia and Isabell were not her friends anymore. Amelia kept twitching and wincing. Hagrid looked shocked, yet surprised.

‘Oh, my, Amelia, why’d yeh do that?’

‘I told you, my stepmom wasn't going to let me go to Hogwarts, and my dad… my dad-’

Amelia’s eyes began streaming with tears. Fang tried to sit on her lap, to lick the tears falling down. By looking at Fang, she felt happier.

‘Well, that is sad an’ awful… wish I could help, really, but I’m busy,’ Hagrid said sympathetically, patting her shoulder.

Amelia fell from her chair by the power of Hagrid’s hand.

‘It’s alright, you don’t need to help, I was just feeling lonely,’ sighed Amelia, getting up again. ‘The Slytherin girls aren’t good friends.’

‘I can tell that,’

‘Oh well, thanks Hagrid, I do feel happy to once be Olivia’s friend,’ Amelia laughed slightly.

‘Yeh can visit me anytime yeh like,’ said Hagrid, smiling.

‘Ok. Bye!’

‘Bye, Amelia.’
