The Birthday
Chapter 36
The next day, Amelia woke them up, screaming.
‘GUYS WAKE UP!’ she yelled.
‘Huh? Did someone die or something?’ Isabell said sleepily.
‘Amelia, it’s still five o’clock!’ said Olivia, rubbing her eyes then looking at her black watch.
‘I know!’ Amelia said excitedly.
‘Then let us sleep…’ Isabell said, turning over and putting her pillow on her ears.
‘But it’s my birthday!’ Amelia announced.
‘Oh!’ Olivia said.
Amelia got her wand and splashed water on Isabell, who jumped in surprise.
‘Never wake me up like that!’
They all dressed up and sat by the Common room.
‘Let me just wake up Albert so he can celebrate with us,’ said Isabell.
‘But you’re not allowed to go to the Boys’ Dormitory-’ began Olivia.
‘We are! Professor Flitwick told me.’
‘What? But boys are not allowed to go to the Girls’ Dormitory!’ Amelia said, confused.
‘Well, the four Hogwarts founders agreed that girls are more trustworthy than boys,’ Isabell grinned.
‘Wait- so Professor Flitwick told you it’s fine to sneak into the boys’ Dormitory to wake up a boy?’ Olivia asked.
‘Not exactly, but- you know what? Nevermind. Let me just wake him up.’
Isabell carefully climbed up the steps to the Boys’ Dormitory and tried to look for Albert. She found him and he was snoring slightly.
‘Albert, wake up,’ Isabell said in a sing-song voice.
‘I want to sleep, mum, leave me alone.’
Isabell burst out laughing and accidentally pushed Albert out of his bed.
Olivia and Amelia heard a scream. They quickly stood up and found Isabell laughing as she went down the steps. Albert was behind her, shocked and shivering. He then spotted Olivia and Amelia and then yelled: ‘WHY DID YOU LET HER WAKE ME UP LIKE THAT?’
Several awakened students glanced up at Albert, who looked red.
‘Albert, we never wanted her to do it but she would have murdered me if I stopped her,’ Olivia said simply.
Albert scratched his messy dark ginger hair and threw Amelia a small present.
‘Happy Birthday.’
‘Thanks!’ Amelia said as she easily caught the present.
She opened it excitedly to reveal a large, weird looking object. It was pitch black and sphere-shaped, though having spikes.
‘What’s that?’ Amelia asked confusedly; she looked a little disappointed.
‘It’s kinda like an oven, but you just ask it what you want,’ said Albert. ‘For example (Albert pointed his wand at the object): I would like a strawberry tart, topped with a chocolate bar.’
The sphere became a cube, with no spikes. Suddenly, a tiny hole appeared in the middle, as though it was a small mouth. A few seconds later, a vomiting sound was heard, and the hole gradually became larger until it was big enough for a hand to be placed inside.
‘Go on. Put your hand inside and take the tart out,’ said Olivia.
Amelia cautiously put her hand inside of the hole and took out a strawberry tart topped with a chocolate bar that was shaped as a golden snitch.
‘Cool!’
‘If you’re wondering why we didn’t give it to Isabell, that’s because it’s designed for Quidditch themed foods only. Olivia and I designed it, well I made it and Olivia designed it,’ Albert said as he smiled at Olivia, who smiled back.
‘How come I didn’t get to design it with you?’ Isabell said, crossing her arms.
‘Because you were too busy eating a chocolate cake at breakfast.’
‘We were actually going to make it for ourselves but we decided to keep it for you Amelia because Olivia told me that she somehow knew that it was your birthday.’
Olivia blushed.
‘WHY IN MERLIN’S SOGGY LEFT SOCK WOULD YOU MAKE A MAGICAL OVEN FOR YOURSELVES?’ Isabell yelled, then smirked. ‘And by the way, I think someone likes you Albert.’
‘Shut up Isabell!’ Olivia was now fully pink.
‘I never said you! It could’ve been Amelia (Amelia frowned) but now you’ve confirmed it is you.’
‘We were both bored apparently and so Olivia asked me if we wanted to do something. And I said ‘sure’. So uhh, yeah,’ Albert said uncomfortably.
‘Anyways, Happy Birthday Amelia!’ Olivia said, trying to change the subject.
‘Right, Happy Birthday!’ Isabell said, still smirking.
In her head she imagined Albert, with his messy dark ginger hair and hazel eyes. And next to him was Olivia, with her eyes sparkling and hair smoother than ever.
Definitely the perfect couple, Isabell thought as she looked at Olivia and Albert, who were avoiding looking at each other.
‘So, where’s my birthday present from you, Isabell?’ Amelia asked her, raising an eyebrow.
Isabell looked shocked.
‘Ahem?’
Amelia, Olivia and Albert were looking at her.
‘Oh, uh, right. Your present. I think I forgot to get it. I, uh, be right back!’
‘Wonder how she’s going to crawl out of this,’ Amelia said to Olivia and Albert, shaking her head.
Isabell ran to the Dormitory and was thinking of what to get for Amelia. A book suddenly hit her on the head, and it was about: Spells to give your friends the best birthday present.
Isabell stared at it, then opened it immediately.
‘Perfect.’
She finally found the perfect spell.
“Flagrate (Fla-grah-tay) is the incantation of a charm that allows one to write or draw in midair with fiery lines.”
It took a minute to ace.
‘Ladies and gentlemen, may I present my gift!’ Isabell said as her lips formed a grin.
Albert and Amelia gaped at what was in front of Isabell. It was Amelia but her outline was fiery. She was riding her broom and in her hand was the Golden Snitch. Underneath the drawn Amelia was:
Happy Birthday Amelia!
‘Wow…’
‘I have to admit, that is one cool spell,’ Olivia said, impressed. ‘It’s called Flagrate, am I correct?’
She winked.
‘Yup.’
Isabell smiled at Olivia as she realised that it was she who made the book appear.
‘Albert, do you have the other tarts?’
‘I sure do!’
Albert rushed to his Dormitory and when he came back, he had three boxes with him. They were bronze in colour with a blue ribbon. Isabell gaped at the boxes. She attacked Albert and grabbed a box. She opened it and in it was a golden snitch drawn on a chocolate tart.
‘Ahem ahem,’ Olivia said as she pointed at the staircase that led to the dormitory.
‘Oh, right,’ Albert said as he rushed back to the boys’ Dormitory.
‘Now, for the main event. May I present you, the cake.’
The cake was in three layers, strawberry, vanilla and chocolate.
In the first tier, it was patterned with small golden snitches. On the second tier, Amelia’s face was printed on there. There was a little wax figure of Amelia on her broom on the last tier. It suddenly zoomed about and behind it was a sparkling, golden trail. Then, candles started to emerge from the cake and were lit up. The fire was shaped like humans and was dancing wildly. Isabell made the drawn figure of Amelia and the words positioned above the cake.
‘OH… MY… GOSH!’
Amelia ran and hugged Olivia, Albert and Isabell.
‘Thank you for the best birthday I have ever had… But, why is the cake so big?’
‘HAPPY BIRTHDAY AMELIA!’
Every Ravenclaw was standing behind Amelia.
Albert took a knife that Olivia conjured and started to cut the cake precisely.
‘Now that is one precise slice,’ said Isabell, who was already stuffing chocolate cake in her mouth.
She had been given the biggest slice.
Olivia and Albert laughed as they gave Amelia a slice of strawberry cake which had Amelia’s wax figure on it.
‘Albert, this is the best cake I have ever tasted in my whole life!’
Amelia gave Albert a thumbs-up and he grinned.
Everyone continued to laugh, eat and enjoy their morning before the lessons started.
