The Ravenclaw Quidditch Team

Chapter 27

Amelia was the hero of Ravenclaw for the day. All of the Ravenclaws, including the prefects Penelope and another boy called Marcus Belby, stayed up until midnight and celebrated.

‘Woah, Olivia is missing a lot of things here,’ said Isabell sympathetically.

As soon as Isabell said this, Olivia walked in with her arm bandaged.

‘Hello,’ Olivia said weakly.

‘Are you alright?’ Amelia asked.

‘Yes, it was just a small cut, but why is there a party?’ Olivia asked.

‘Oh, your questions. Well, it’s a long story. I promise I’ll tell you tomorrow,’ yawned Amelia.

‘Night you guys,’ Olivia said as she headed to the stairs.

‘Good night Olivia,’ Isabell said.

‘Night,’ Amelia said, as she followed Isabell to the cosy beds.

The morning after that was yet another notice on the board.

Dear Ravenclaws,

Please be informed that the first Quidditch match is to take place on October 23nd.

Team Captain: Roger Davies

Seeker: Amelia Clearwater.

Beaters: Cho Chang - Jason Samuels

Keeper: Terry Boot

Chasers: Roger Davies - Randolph Burrow - Jeremy Stretton

Thank you

Rolanda Hooch

‘You’re the seeker?’ Oliva gasped.

‘Don’t ask me, ask her-’ began Isabell.

‘I know all about Quidditch!’ Oliva snapped.

She turned to Amelia.

‘But how did you become the seeker?’

Amelia spent about 10 minutes of breakfast explaining how Draco dared her to catch the rock and succeeded, and how Madam Hooch made her join the team.

‘Woah, lucky you!’ Olivia exclaimed.

‘Yup,’ Isabell agreed. ‘But I’m not really interested in Quidditch.’

‘You’ve got to see what it’s like, trust me!’ Olivia insisted.

‘I saw one match before, I’ll come because you said so, and you look scary right now.’

‘Ye- wait what?’ Olivia stared at Isabell in disbelief. ‘WILL YOU STOP JUDGING PEOPLE BY THEIR APPEARANCE!’ Olivia shouted as she stormed off to pet Twilight (her cat).

A few heads turned to Olivia, surprised.

‘Seriously Isabell?’ said Amelia, slapping her forehead.

‘Excuse me.’

A boy they had never met before started talking. He had fluffy, yet messy dark ginger hair and hazel eyes.

‘What? Can’t you see that we’re in a conversation here?’ snapped Isabell viciously.

Amelia stepped on Isabell's foot.

‘Go ahead,’ she said, giving Isabell a sharp glare.

‘Well, I wanted to say two thin-’

‘Get… Over… With… It…’  interrupted Isabell angrily.

Amelia shushed Isabell and watched the boy carefully.

‘Oh, well, the first thing is… what’s Quidditch?’ he said excitedly.

Quidditch is a fast, dangerous, exciting game in which two teams flying on brooms compete for points scored by throwing a ball – the Quaffle – through hoops on either end of a large grassy pitch, which is just outside the school. This match is played by two teams made up of seven players. There are three Chasers, two Beaters, one Keeper, and one Seeker,’ explained Amelia.

The boy looked very interested.

‘Chasers keep possession of the quaffle and try to score a point by throwing it through one of three hoops on the opposing team's side. The goal of the Seeker is to catch the Golden Snitch throughout the game. The Seeker from each team's sole duty is to capture the Golden Snitch and once this is done, the game ends. Catching the Snitch gives the team one hundred and fifty points! The winner of the match is the team with the most points at the end of the game. There are loads of rules, but we don’t use them anymore.’

‘Thanks!’ said the boy. ‘I have two letters for you, one for… Olivia Dragonheart and Amelia Clearwater.’

‘Dad told me that he’d write to me every week,’ said Isabell sadly.

‘Ok, thanks-’ said Amelia, but she had no idea what the boy’s name was.

‘Albert. Albert Foxglove, I’m a Muggleborn,’ he said.

‘Ok, thanks Albert!’ said Amelia and she went to give Olivia her letter.

‘Thank you,’ said Olivia sadly.

‘Give her a rest,’ said Amelia as she looked at Isabell who was glaring at them. ‘I’m sure she didn’t mean anything.’

‘Oh, fine. But you tell her to come over here,’ whispered Olivia.

‘OI, ISABELL!’ yelled Amelia. ‘COME HERE, PLEASE!’

As Isabell came over to them she completely ignored Olivia and didn’t want to look at her.

‘Olivia, apologise to Isabell,’ said Amelia urgently, ‘Isabell, apologise to Olivia.’

‘Sorry, darling. I can’t do that,’ Olivia said as she stuffed her face in a book.

‘I will not apologise,’ said Isabell as she crossed her arms and huffed, sending her loose wavy hair on Amelia’s face.

‘Hey! You either apologise or I’ll make you get detention again to get along.’

‘FINE! But not detention. I hated that,’ said Isabell as she twitched for a fraction of a second.

‘Sorry, alright?’ Olivia said angrily, looking at Twilight.

‘Sorry, I’ll try not to say anything like that about anyone again,’ said Isabell disappointedly.

‘Yes, that’s better!’ said Amelia cheerfully.

‘Now can we open the letters?’ asked Isabell

‘Ok, let’s open Olivia’s letter first,’ said Amelia.

Olivia muttered something, then opened the letter.

The letter was written in scruffy handwriting:

Hello Olivia,

Can you come to my cabin after you finish your school work? By sunset? It's very important, you need to come as fast as possible. Your friends can come over too if they’re trustworthy, otherwise you have to come alone.

Thank you

Rubeus Hagrid

‘Hagrid?’ Olivia whispered, confused.

‘Why would he want to see you so urgently?’ Amelia said worriedly.

‘Come with you if we’re trustworthy, huh?’ Isabell said.

‘Well, do you trust us?’ Amelia stared at Olivia.

‘Um… I need to think about it, and we have Defence Against the Dark Arts class, after five minutes. I’ll go get my book,’ Olivia said as she rushed to the Dormitory.

‘Wait, what about my letter?’ Amelia said as she began to open the envelope carefully.

‘Oh yeah! Open it!’ said Olivia, coming back.

It was from the team captain, Roger Davies.

‘Oh, I have training. Look!’ Amelia said as she handed the parchment to them.

Dear Amelia

This is from your team captain, Roger Davies. I would like to inform you that the first team training will begin in October first, tomorrow, 7:00 am. Come as fast as possible with your broomstick. If you have any friends, they may come to watch the training but only if they’re in Ravenclaw.

P.S  It will probably rain, so be equipped for that.

Thanks,

Roger Davies

‘Only if, and only if the friends were in Ravenclaw, huh?’ Isabell said.

‘Why do you have to question everything?’ Olivia rolled her eyes.

‘Well, lucky me, you are in Ravenclaw,’ Amelia grinned.

‘Uh, why was I in Ravenclaw? Because I’m super smart,’ Isabell muttered.

‘Yeah, probably…’ said Olivia, rolling her eyes.

Amelia and Isabell giggled.
