Potions
Chapter 20
Amelia hadn’t talked to them, not in Potions, she just stayed silent as thoughts in her head were swirling. Snape crying because he regretted something, Isabell crying because her mother died-
Snape was very cruel to them.
‘I heard Snape hates Harry Potter so much,’ gasped a frightened Hufflepuff first-year girl.
‘He deserves the loath,’ smirked Draco from across the room in the dungeons.
‘No, he doesn’t, shut up Draco,’ said Hermione, Amelia, Isabell, Ron and Olivia all at the same time.
‘Silence,’ Snape said in his usual cold voice.
Draco’s grin widened on his pale and thin face.
‘Now… Ms. Clearwater, answer this question…’ Snape suddenly called out.
‘Y- yes sir?’ Amelia looked worried.
‘What is the Veritaserum potion?’
Hermione’s hand shot up.
‘Umm… Veritaserum is a potion which is as clear as water, and it makes the drinker tell the truth, it is more commonly known as the truth serum,’ Amelia explained hesitantly.
Hermione looked disappointed, yet surprised.
‘An acceptable answer,’ said Snape coldy.
‘But that was a perfect answer sir!’ shouted Olivia hotly. ‘It should have gained us at least ten points!’
‘Five points from Ravenclaw. That should do it,’ said Snape as his lips thinned more and more.
Draco looked delighted, but Olivia looked furious.
‘Now, Ms. Bluesky, your turn.’
Isabell glared at Snape, not looking worried.
‘Go ahead, sir!’ she blurted out.
‘What is Wolfsbane potion?’
Hermione’s hand shot up in the air again.
‘Wolfsbane potion is the potion that helps Werewolves when transformed to control their mind,’ Isabell said, and then glared at her feet.
Snape ignored Isabell’s answer.
‘Harry Potter. Do you know what the Strengthening Solution is?’ Snape asked.
Hermione’s hand was almost touching the ceiling because she was standing on her chair.
‘Sit down Ms. Granger!’ snapped Snape.
Hermione flushed pink as she shifted in her seat.
‘No sir,’ Harry answered.
‘Well well well, our new celebrity doesn’t know his potions,’ Snape smirked. ‘This clearly means that fame isn’t everything.’
Draco burst into laughter and so did other Slytherins. Snape smiled a terrible smile.
‘5 points from Gryffindor.’
‘But sir, he doesn’t deserve that, he was living with Muggles!’ Olivia gasped.
‘Another 5 points from Ravenclaw, and you lived among Muggles too, I wouldn’t expect you to know this question,’ Snape sneered.
Olivia stayed silent for only a fraction of a second when-
‘As I expected, the answer is: The strengthening solution makes the drinker have more strength as well as health, they are mostly used in dwellings,’ said Snape.
‘I was going to say that when you explained!’ Olivia shouted. ‘Why are you so rude to students?’
‘Detention Ms. Dragonheart, tomorrow at 9:30 in the morning.’
Amelia looked sympathetic, while Isabell kept glaring at Snape.
‘But sir!’ yelled Isabell suddenly.
Olivia and Amelia looked at each other, expressionless.
‘Enough! Detention for you too.’
‘But-’ Isabell began.
‘Read pages one to twelve for homework and write an essay about identifying the different types of potions. Class dismissed,’ Snape said, with no expression on his face as he left the classroom.
‘Great,’ muttered Olivia.
