Chapter two - Note taking tips

Chapter 5

Chapter two

1 - Don't write down word for word.

2 - Use symbols and abbrevations.

3 - Use colors.

4 - Improve your handwriting.

5 - Be an active reader/listener.

6 - Pace yourself.

7 - Don't pay much attention to spelling and grammar.

8 - Paraphrase your notes.

Explanation

1 - Don't write down every word on the slide or paragraph. Instead write it in your own words so, that it's to your understanding. If it's not to your understanding then what's the point of taking notes?

2 - Using symbols and abbreviations may save you some time. BUT make sure that you understand what it means. Using symbols also help instead of writing 'equal' you can write '='.

3 - Using colors actually help you. If you pay attention to color pyschology.

The chart above is a chart about the color psychology.

4 - I'm not trying to say your handwriting is bad but sometimes if your writing is really messy then you can't really read your notes. Which kind of makes the notes useless.

5 - If you get distracted that's fine but don't get too distracted because if you do then you may just miss some important information.

6 - Don't take a whole bunch of notes in the first paragraph. Instead read it then take notes slowly bit by bit. Even when there is a lecture you need to listen to. If it's like an hour long don't take a whole lot of notes in the first ten minutes and then just sit there for the rest of the fifty minutes.

7 - Don't pay attention to your spelling and grammar unless your notes is for a grade then you pay attention. If you understand what you're saying then it's fine to have grammar and spelling mistakes. What you can do is make grammar and spelling mistakes then look over the notes and fix the mistakes.

8 - Let's say there is a website, your taking notes down, anf copy like a quote from the website but, you forget to put quotations then that's plagarism. Which isn't acceptable. Instead, what you can do is re-phrase the sentance or quote.
