The Role of House-Elves

written by Sadie Marionell

House-elves are a very important aspect of the wizarding world. To be frank, we would not run so smoothly if it weren't for them. They are behind the scenes, cleaning all our spaces and carrying all our burdens for us. For many centuries, they have been mistreated by our kind. Now, these actions come into light in an all new collection of house-elf knowledge, magic, information, backstory, law, everyday life, and relation to witches and wizards. New installments every week.

Introduction

Chapter 1

The idea of S.P.E.W. is controversial.

S.P.E.W. stands for the Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare. In regular, easier terms, this basically means that the "society", (a.k.a group or club) aims to help house-elves with bad conditions. The society's aims include, but are not limited to, allowing elves to wear clothes, carry wands, and protect them from mistreatment. Of course, the main goal is to make elves the equals of witches and wizards and free them from slavery.

To understand why this topic is controversial, you have to understand the life and occupation of a house-elf, as well as their relation to wizarding folk and their importance in our world.

In this book, you will find 5 main sections:

  1. Mistreatment and Daily Life

  2. Magic and Punishment

  3. Enslavement and History

  4. Role and Law

  5. Proposals and Rights

These don't just touch on the top of the iceberg; we'll be going down deep, as far back as we have record, on house-elves. We will be using research and history from many centuries ago, using many books available in the Hogwarts Library. Follow along each week if you feel up to it.

House-elves are mistreated, and this needs to come to light. We need to prevent their mistreatment and slavery, and promote their welfare.

At the end of this book, in chapter/section 5, you can find a list of ways to help.

Thank you, and I hope you find this book revealing and important.
