Chapter 4
Dark Arts – any magic that is used to cause harm. This can be in the
form of spells, potions, or even breeding dark creatures.
The Law and Dark Arts:
There are no laws which make the Dark Arts illegal. The only exception
is the Unforgiveable Curses. Aurors are often encouraged by the ministry to use
this type of magic when dueling with their enemies.
1997-1998 everything to do with the dark arts were legalized and
taught at Hogwarts by a known death eater. This is also at the time when lord Voldemort
was in control of the ministry of magic and that it is not the standard
protocol.
The use of the unforgiveable curses will result in the user being
sent to a lifelong stay in Azkaban prison.
This week Dark Spells:
Dark Spells – any spell that affects the target in a negative
manner. Spells of these nature often result in discomfort, pain, or even death.
Jinx – lowest form of a Dark Spell. They do not cause much harm and
are typically used for practical jokes. These can be avoided by placing an
anti-jinx spell around yourself or an object. They can also be removed by a
counter jinx. An example of this would be the knockback jinx.
Hex – slightly darker than a jinx. This often causes moderate
discomfort and are seen as a major inconvenience. Can be removed with the use
of a hex breaker. A hex breaker is used as a counter and will reverse the
effects. An example of this is the bat-bogey hex.
Curse– the darkest and most extreme of Dark Spells. They can cause
the recipient extreme discomfort and/or pain. They are long lasting and can result
in death. You can block this by using protective charms and also lifted by using
counter curse. Lifting a curse will not remove any damage done prior to the removal
and only prevents further damage from being done. An example of this would be
the curse of the bogeys.
Curse of the bogeys – will cause the target to develop an extreme
cold. The target will be stuck with an extremely runny nose until the curse is
lifted. The incantation is Mucus ad nauseam (Mew-Kus AD Naw-see-em). Point your
wand in front of you bring the wand down towards your left side and out, curve
it up and to the right going outwards slightly
and then bringing it to where you originally started. The motion should
resemble drawing a rain drop.
Knockback Jinx – repels or pushes back whatever the target maybe. If
the object is fragile nature, it may be blasted apart. The spell could easily
be sent back to the caster with the disarming charm or the shield charm. The incantation
is Flipendo (Fli-PEN-Doh). Slash your wand down and to the right. Immediately bring
it up diagonally to the right and end with a wave. If you are successful, you
will see a blue light shoot out at your target.
Knockback Jinx Duo – more powerful than the original spell and it is
also more harmful. The incantation for this spell is Flipendo Duo. With enough
power behind the spell can throw the enemy long distances in the shower of blue
sparks. Multiple castings of this spell in a row can cause a small whirlwind. Move
your wand in a simple slashing motion.
