A First Year'S Charms Journal

written by Heather Calvieri

This is the journal I made for Charms class in my first year at Hogwarts. It's here to use as a resource to help you with your studies and to help you get some ideas for your own journals however be sure not to plagiarise my work, it's here as a guide, not a text to copy.

Lesson One

Chapter 1

Today the first spell I practised for Charms homework was the wand-lighting charm. The purpose of the charm is to illuminate the end of the wand. I moved my wand in a loop motion and said the word "lumos". The end of the wand didn't appear to glow as it should. I double checked my text book and realised the wand movement had to be done in a COUNTER-clockwise loop. I performed the action again, this time the right way round and said "lumos". This time the wand tip lit up a beautiful golden yellow colour.

The second spell I practised was the wand-extinguishing charm. This spell is used to extinguish the light at the end of the wand. I said the word "nox" and gave my wand a swift flick and the light at the end went out more quickly than I would have thought.

My overall thoughts on this practise was that it was a success, however I must learn to read the textbook and notes more thoroughly in future before performing a spell.
