Tall Tales and Hurt Feelings
Chapter 5
Sofia couldn't believe it. The kids at school had been spreading rumors and stories. horrible stories. and she had only been here for a day, but not even. Se arrived last night, and it was only the next morning. The stories sped around her head, filling her evey thought. She was so distracted she didn't even see the people ahead of her in the corridor. She had tears forming, blurring her vision and distracting her. the next thing she knew, she was on her knees, her bag and books spread across the floor at either of her sides. Her mind was racing, the voices ringing in her ears. A group had gatherd all around her. She could hear distant mumers, whispers and screams. Her shoulders shook violently, as if Someone was shaking her. She could hear a girls' voice crying out her name, but to her ears, it sounded like soft whispers. Slowely, but surley, the voices became preasent, and her vision was returning.
Sofia? SOFIA! Sofia talk to me please..." Roses' red face came into sight, her blurry edges forming, into a tear-soaked and freckled face. She was sobbing, and her bag was askew on her shoulder as she bent over Sofia who had curlled up into a ball on the floor. Her hands were gripping Sofia's shoulders. She was the one doing the shaking. She blinked the tears out of her eyes and sat back, wiping her face on the sleeves of her uniform.
"Y-Ypu alright? Gosh you gave me such a frieght! You were walking past me, and I tried to stop you to say hello, and you spun around, and collapsed! I don't know what happend, or why, but you were just there on the ground, screaming." Sofia sat up rubbing her aching shoulders and head. Is that really what had happend? I just... Collapsed? She didn't know what to say. The group of kids around her was still peeking in, and trying to get a look at Sofia as if she were some exotic animal in a cage. She sat there silent, feeling the hundreds of eyes on her.
"Sofia? Are.. are you ok?" Rose said one las time. The words sunk into Sofia'a mind. Am I ok? She didn't know. She really didn't know. She Didn't understand what had happend. She had just collapsed. she has never had that happen before, and she didn;t know what it was.
"Sofia?" Rose's voice rang out again.
"I don't know..." She whisperd, almost impossible for the human ears the hear.
"W-What was that? I can't hear you, really, I m like half deaf most of the time and-"
"I DON'T KNOW OK?" Sofia couldn't understand why she was yelling at Rose, her only friend, but she ust had the urge, and it come out louder than she had origionally intended. Sofia couls feel the tears coming in again, and this time, she didn;t want people to see her. She pushed past the crowd of people staring silently, and ran. She didn't know where, or why, but she ran. she ran down the corridors until she found her self panting at the steps to the Astronomy tower. the Astonomy classes weren't until midnight, so this place was deserted. She walked up the stairs quietly. the threatening tears had dissapeard, and her anger had vanished. it was all replaced by the weird feeling she had felt before when Scorpius walked away. The feeling she got when she wanted to run away. When she felt like everything was her fault. She sel sorry, Sorry that she had been rude to Scarpius the first time that they talked, Sorry that Rose was prbably hurt somewhere away from her. Sorry that she had ever been born. Sorry that she had become such a monster, Just like her Grandfather.
