Chapter 3
“When did you tell Johnny?” I asked. I’m Jennifer Walker, 5.’9”,
light brown hair, light brown eyes that shine in a sunset, cheerleader. “I told
him tonight actually.” Benny answered. I looked up, “So is this the last night
you two are hanging out?” I asked. Benny looked shocked and a little
disappointed. “No, he decided to stay friends with me. If we stopped being
friends, he would be gone by now.” Benny replied. I nodded in pleasure. ‘At
least I won’t stop seeing Benny.’ I thought in my head, but then I was afraid
he heard me. “Benny, you can’t like read minds can you?” I asked. Benny shook
his head. “There’s only a few vampires in the world that could do that, one of
them being Eve.” Benny explained. I nodded. ‘Ok at least he can’t hear me right
now.’ I thought. Benny’s eyes went to my chest, he pointed. “What’s that you
got in that there zipped up jacket?” Benny asked. Then I knew what he was
talking about. I pulled out a glowing bottle of green liquid, I had gotten it
from my mother before she died, she never got the chance to tell me what it
does, she did get the chance to tell me she used to be an Alchemist before she
loved art. “Oh this? Benny, I wear this everywhere I go, here being one of the
places.” I told him. “Then how come I’ve never seen it before, and don’t tell
me I just didn’t notice it because vampires have wicked eye-sight.” Benny
joked. Then my mind raced into a whole bunch of ways I could lie, but it was
true, I’ve wore it everywhere else but here, and there was a reason why. “You
weren’t here at the time, I mainly wear it over here for cheerleading
practice.” I lied. Benny looked up at my face, then his face turned into utter
excitement. “You do cheerleading practice here?!” Benny asked/jumped for joy.
‘Of course, he just questions the cheerleading part.’ I thought. I sighed,
“Yes, I do cheerleading practice here.” Benny did one of those things when you
try to act cool, but you’re really excited. “Wait, why do you study Vampires
Jennifer?” Benny asked, the question of the night. “I- uh,” I stuttered. I
realized lying wasn't going to get me out of this one. I decided to tell him.
“Johnny should be in here for this.” I said, and we called Johnny into the
room. After everyone was sitting and quiet, I began my story. “It was a night
when I went to the Library, what’s new? Anyway, when I came home… there was
someone in my house, I knew it was my mother, but then I heard a crashing sound
coming from my mom’s room. So when I went into check on her, there she was… but
she wasn't alone, there HE was, a vampire drinking my mother’s blood and when
he heard the stairs creak, he left and took my mother’s body with him.” I said
Benny and Johnny were silent. Benny had a look of terror in his eyes.
“Benny? What’s wrong?” I asked. Benny stood frozen, still terror in his eyes.
“Benny?” Johnny asked, started to look worried. “You- you know that vampire you
saw when you came home Jennifer.” Benny
said. I nodded. I feared what he was going to tell me. “I know who it was.”
Benny said.‘Oh please…
don’t let it be him.’ I thought. Benny took and Sighed and said, “It was
me.” Benny said. Benny could see the tears in my eyes. I wiped them away and
ran off. “Jennifer!” Benny and Johnny yelled at the same time, but I kept
running. When I walked into the house, Dylan was the first one to greet me, but
he saw I was crying. “Jennifer? What’s wrong?” Dylan asked. When I didn’t
answer, Dylan hugged me. “It’s ok Jen, you can tell me what’s wrong later.”
Dylan said, that was the first and the last time, Dylan was nice to me. Sooner
or later, I told Johnny, and he told Benny, and they made fun of Dylan for it,
which was the last time he was nice to me… ever. I stopped crying for a minute.
“No, you deserve to know Dylan,” I said. But I didn’t get to tell him in time,
Veronica just walked through the door and notices that Dylan was hugging me;
Dylan then retracted. “What’s the prob?” asked my Aunt Veronica, trying to act
cool. “Nothing’s wrong Aunt Veronica, just missed my sister being at Benny’s.”
Dylan said, trying to keep his reputation about being a complete jerk. “Ok,
whatever you say dude.” Said my Aunt Veronica, not cool at all. I looked at
Dylan and said, “You deserve to know why I’m sad,” I continued, “Benny’s a
vampire, and he killed mom.”
