The Hogwarts Express
Chapter 3
Nami:
"It says here that you have to walk straight at the wall between this platform and the next, 9 and 10," my mom said as she read the instructions and shaking her head. My father pulled the paper from her hands and shook his head in unison with a confused look on his face.
I walked towards the the pillar and waited for something magical to happen, it looked like an ordinary wall to me. I reach my hand out and touched the wall, and to my shock my hand went through!
I said goodbye to my parents and went through the platform of 9 3/4.
---
After entering the platform I was in shock, I had never seen so many witches and wizards before in my life. If only muggles could go through the platform and my parents would be able to see this.
-train whistle blows-
I hurried with my luggage onto the train and tried to find a place to sit.
Lia:
I sat in a compartment alone, fixing my part in my hair. After giving up, I looked around, wondering if anyone was going to come sit with me in this compartment. I doubted it. Not many people noticed I existed in the muggle-world, and there was no reason for them to notice me in the magic world. I flipped my blonde ponytail over my shoulder and pulled the hair elastic from it, and redoing it so it was a high ponytail. I looked at it once more in the mirror I held in front of me, smiled, and put it away. I jumped up on the velvet seat and grabbed one of my bags. The one with my acoustic guitar in it. I smiled as I sat down and adjusted it so it was comfortable on my knee, and started playing chords together to make up the song I had been working on perfecting. My mother had said it sounded lovely, but in my opinion it still needed a lot of work.
Nami:
Walking through two train compartments I started getting nervous. They were all full of group of kids, some young and older students, but they all looked like close knit friends. I sighed, I almost gave up hope when I heard music and that peeked my interest. I found the room and there was a young girl who looked around my age sitting there with a guitar, the thing that really made me curious was her brightly dyed green hair. She was the only one in here, maybe she didn't want to be bothered? But I didn't have a choice, I needed a place to sit.
"Uh..excuse me...is um it okay if I sit in here with you? All the others are full."
Lia:
Lia heard a voice and stopped playing, then looked at the girl who had walked in. She nodded. "Sure!" Lia set down her guitar, not sure if the girl wanted to listen to her play a guitar for a whole long train ride. Lia smiled at the girl, and moved her legs off the seat next to her so the girl could sit down.
Nami:
I smiled and unfastened my jacket and took my beanie hat off of my caramel colored hair and sat next to the girl. "You're realy good you know. I can't even read music *chuckle* I tried when I was younger but I was too shy to preform in front of people so I quit."
I looked at of the window, the train had been going for about twenty minutes, I could see my reflection through the window. My freckles were always my favorite feature, they scattered all over my cheeks and dusted my shoulders.
Lia:
I blushed. "Thanks. My mom's a bard so she's been teaching me everything she knows since I turned 5.I like playing music, something that I guess I get from her." Lia smiled at the girl. "I'm Lia." Lia did a smal twist with her neck, making a strand of green bangs stick to another strand that wasn't in her face.
Nami:
"I'm Nami, so is your hair naturally green? Sorry if that's a stupid question, I just learned of being a witch and I still have so much to learn." I blushed at announcing that I'm a muggleborn. I wasn't sure how Lia would take it, she seemed to be more comfortable on the train.
-an old woman with a trolley knock on the door and ask if we want anything-
Lia:
Lia opened the door for the old women and bought a bunch of chocolate frogs and other sweets. "Well, there's nothing wrong with being a muggle-born. Though some pure-breds might treat you harshly. They're jerks. But actually, last month, my parents needed magic dyes from Diagon Alley. I bought a green one and when I carried it outside I ran into someone and it splashed onto my scalp and dyed my hair permanently green. Lets just say my parents weren't very happy about that!" Lia laughed a little, and offered Nami a chocolate frog.
Nami:
I waved the lady off as we sat down with Lia's sweets, and laughed at the dye story. "Oh man, my mom would flip if that happened to me! They're being really cool about me being a witch and all but now they're weirdly concerned about the family trees. Wondering which side has magical blood. I think they're making a contest out of it."
Ah! I opened the chocolate frog and it jumped out!-
"What the heck?!"
Lia:
I grabbed the frog before it went anywhere. "Sorry. I forgot to mention that...chocolate frogs move." I gave it back to Nami carefully, and pulled out the card in the case, and showed it to her. "Cards come with these. They're collectables, so you're supposed to keep them." I turned the card toward me to see which one it was. "Madam Pomfrey!" I exclaimed through a gasp of awe. (I keep imagining Lia with a british accent so she's going to have one xD)
Nami:
I grabbed the chocolate frog from her and examined it, would it hurt the frog if I ate it? Would it move in my mouth I thought before nibbling. "Thanks, that was funny even though it startled me." I looked at the card and read the inscription of Madam Pompfrey and it said that she used to be the Matron of Hogwarts before she retired to care for her husband.
I looked over at Lia who was still chowing down on sweets (LOL) and asked, " So do you know anyone going to Hogwarts? Do you think we'll be able to room together? -I looked out of the window again and the scenery had changed to lush vegetation and an open water- "I'm so nervous about school, what if I make a full of myself and they'll probably tell me I'm not magic enough. -sigh-
Lia:
Lia looked over at Nami and smiled. "Well, if we both get into the same house, then yeah! we'll be in the same dorm. And I don't think anyone 'isn't magic enough.' You got the letter, proving you're wizard enough to go! And all wizards go, even if they're muggle-born. You'll be great at Hogwarts, and you have me even if we get put in different houses!"
Nami:
"House? Hogwarts is a castle isn't it.." I was starting to feel really lost but I was glad that Lia said she'd be there for me even if we weren't in the same "house".
Lia:
I nodded. "Its a castle, but its divided up into little houses, or group-like things. There's Slytherin, the one you don't want to be in unless its from your family line to be in it, Gryffindor, Ravenclaw, and Hufflepuff! On the first day there, there's a sorting hat for all the new students. The sorting hat decides what house you're in."
Nami:
"Man that sucks we can't choose what house to be in, but whichever one I'm put into I hope I at least do well."
Suddenly the over speaker made an announcement: Attention all students, we will be arriving to Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry in ten minutes time. Please leave all luggage in your compartments and make sure the appropriate attire is worn before leaving the train. Thank you.
I stood up and seen that the train was going through a tunnel. "Looks like we won't be able to see the school until we stop. Are we supposed to change in here or are there washrooms?"
Lia:
"I think in here." I said, grabbing my guitar and putting it up into its bag, then grabbing a bag that had my uniform in it and pulling the long coat part over my t-shirt. I zipped the bag closed and put it back with the rest of my luggage and sat down next to Nami again.
Nami:
I stood up and went to my luggage that I had put on the seat across from us and searched through my purple bag for my school uniform. I put my black robe on and fastened the buttons in place. I was already wearing the pleaded skirt and a white long sleeve.
"Well, it looks like it's time to leave. I'm so nervous! I hope I get placed into a good house..." I said as I fidgeted with the zipper on my bag and then combed my hair with my fingers trying to look more presentable.
Lia:
I stood up again, and grabbed a hairbrush, handing it to Nami. "All the houses are great," I started, then realized the flaw in it. "well...almost all the houses are great." I smiled at her. "I don't think you'll be put in Slytherin. You're too nice c:" I grinned and opened the caboose door for Nami and waited for her to finish brushing her hair.
Nami:
"Thanks," I said as I grabbed the brush from Lia and brushed my hair and pinning back my bangs with a clip from my pocket. "Awe, thanks. You are too so there's no way you'd be Slytherin either. I hope we're in the same house!" I smiled and followed Lia through the door and off the train.
