First Full Moon
Chapter 8
Everyone pretended that night didn't happen.
Every so often,
Frank would send a glare at Sirius, but that was it. Well, besides the
fact that Alice and I have become friends. She helped me. Alice tried to
worn me last year about Sirius. Sirius and I had awkward moments every
now and then. He would smile at me, and I would give him a shy smile
back. Remus and Jinxy had some sort of strange relationship. They talked
and laughed. I thought Jinxy might have liked Remus.
Anyway, it
was three days before the full moon in October when my werewolf symptoms
started acting up. Remus's had as well. Remus had been preparing me for
it, but it still didn't go well.
"Rani, you're dangerously hot, are you ok?" Lils asked one night. I nodded.
"Fine,"
I lied. Jinxy smiled at me. Remus Sat across from her, Sirius Sat
across from me, and James across from Lily. Peter decided to sit next to
James.
"Hey, Evans. Go out with me?" James smirked. Lils' face lit up. She looked as if she were going to say yes.
"No," she shoved her fork in her mouth and glared at James. Sirius nudged Remus.
"El,"
(he even came up with a nickname for her?!)" I was wondering if you
would like to come to Hogsmed with me this weekend?" Jinxy almost
coughed up her food. I patted her back.
"Oh, I...um-" Remus looked away.
"Remus! I'd love to!" She exclaimed. I looked at Lily with my mouth agape. Her face was exactly the same.
"Sooo, James. Did I make the Quidditch team?" I asked, batting my eyelashes. He sighed.
"Yes. You did. You've missed three practices already though. You'd better be great," he sighed.
"She
already is! She's the best. Better than you are," snarled Lils. I
giggled. Peter chuckled. Remus and Sirius 'ohhhhhh'd. It was extremely
funny. Peter looked at someone, the stood up. What was he doing? He
walked over to a girl. He came back smiling like a mad-man.
"I got a date!" He exclaimed. Everyone gasped.
"What?" We all hissed. He nodded.
"Wow man. That's just sad," Sirius sighed, shaking his head at James, "Wormtail can get a girl but you can't?"
"I don't see you having a date!" James hissed.
"That's
cause I haven't asked her yet," Sirius smiled smugly. My face fell. He
was asking someone else to go to Hogsmed with him? I guess I could go
with Alice.........
"Rani! Lils! Jinxy! I got a date for Saturday!" Alice squealed.
"Great for you!" Lils hugged them.
"Who?" Jinxy and I asked.
"Well,
I'm going with Frank," Alice giggled. I smiled. I expected that one.
Maybe I'll go with Sev. Wait, he never goes. I guess I'll go alone...
"River,"
(that was Sirius's nickname for me), "I was wondering if you would like
to accompany me to Hogsmed this Saturday? Along with you friends, of
course." He winked at me. I almost died. I was in much shock, I fell
backwards off the stool.
"I think you killed her,"
"Great going Padfoot. You killed her before you could get an answer,"
"Shut
it, Moony. Keep your mouth shut, Prongs," someone growled. There as a
lot of laughter. Mooney, Padfoot, Wormtail, and Prongs must be their
nicknames.
"You ok, Rani?" Three people pulled/pushed me back up.
"Yes," I said, looking straight at Sirius. He gave a lopsided grin that made me giggle.
"Come on, Evans. I know you like me," James winked at her.
"Um, no. I don't," Lils looked at him weirdly.
"Come on Lils. We all know you do," Jinxy rolled her eyes.
"I do not!"
"Do!"
"Don't"
"Do!"
"I DO NOT LIKE JAMES POTTER! NOW SHUT UP BEOFRE I DO......something to you," She screeched.
"Ladies, ladies. No need to fight. There's enough James to go around," James smirked. Jinxy, Lils, and I gaged.
"No thanks James. I think I'll pass," Jinxy gulped.
"I
agree with you there, Jinxy," My upper lip twitched dramatically. All
eight of us laughed. Something snapped in my head. We are friends the
the Maurarders. Woah. Didn't See That coming.
"I think I'm going to sit with Sev," Lils sighed. I nodded.
"I'll come with," I started to get up.
"No,
no. You stay here. Enjoy your food with them," She smiled sheepishly at
me. Was there something I missed? I frowned as I sat back down.
"You ok River?" Sirius asked, grabbing my hand. I wanted to say 'I am now,' but I couldn't.
"I
think there's something wrong with Sev. Did I say anything that might
offend him? Have I been excluding him? Because I usually spend maybe a
little more time with him, but not very," I said, not really talking to
anybody. Everyone was silent.
"I'm going to the library," I announced. I stood and walked out of the Great Hall.
"Man, and we were having such a good time," Sirius sighed. I couldn't help but giggle.
I
sat down at a table, trembling. I remembered then that today was a full
moon. I checked the entire library for a book made by a werewolf. There
are none. At all. I thought I could make my own, so pulled out a
journal mum gave me for my birthday.
"Being a Wolf. A Diary By Serana River Longbottom," I spook as I Wright.
"Day One:
Today
is my first day as a werewolf. I was attacked by a friend of mine last
month. It's not his fault. I'm glad though. I lived through it. I've
always been fascinated by werewolves. Ever since I came to Hogwarts. My
best friend (I won't say her name, but you know who you are), gave me a
wolf necklace. Ever since then, I've been studying werewolves with a
friend of mine, who happened to attack me one night whilst he was in his
wolf form. He hadn't told me he was a werewolf, so it didn't make sense
at first.
Now, I feel the full side effects of the werewolf, a
fever, pale face, sweating all the time. And a never ending hunger. My
werewolf friend said that not many werewolves feel this, but I did do
feel hungry a lot. Right now it is just past lunch, so I still have yet
to wait for the full moon. I must admit, I am frightened. My friend said
he was too on his first night. I am afraid I'll see someone in the
woods and I'll be unable to keep myself from attacking them. My friend
attacked his best friends. I'm just worried that I'll kill someone.
I was told forced to take wolfsbane, which, I must tell you, tastes
horrid. It does, as my schools healer says, takes away few symptoms,
such as me going insane. Well, I'm already crazy, but not in that way.
Anyway, I really must be going now. I should be preparing for nightfall.
Serana
River Longbottom," Pleased with my work, I put my quill down. I closed
and tied up my note book. I stood up and walked towards the muggle book
section. I looked through them all until I came across two unfamiliar
seris.
"Lord Of The Rings by J. R. R. Tolkien and The Chronicles
of Narnia by C. S. Lewis. You have very good taste my dear," the
librarian smiled at me. I logged both of them in and slipped them into
my book back. I decided to go to the Quidditch field instead of the
Commen Room to read. It helped me think better. Whilst walking towards
my destination, I saw a familiar head of shaggy black hair sitting on a
bench. I jogged up quietly and kissed Sirius on the check. Surprised, he
turned to me. I noticed obvious differences between Sirius and this
person. In shock, I fell backwards.
"I'm...I'm sorry. I mistook you for someone else-"
"It's
quiet alright. Everyone mistakes me for Sirius. We are brothers. You
must be Serana Longbottom. I'm Regulus. Regulus Black. Sirius' younger
brother," he smiled and stuck out his hand. I shook it.
"You must
heard of me already, being that you know my name. It's funny though,
Sirius has never mentioned you. Why?" I asked, still the ground.
"Why don't you take a seat, I have a lot of explaining to do," Regulus sighed, patting the empty space next to him.
Not but 15 minutes later, Sirius came storming up the hill.
"River! What are you doing?" He yelled. I glared at him.
"How dare you!" I screeched.
"Excuse me?" He raised his eyebrows.
"Your brother loves you, but you throw him aside like some...ragdoll? This is preposterous, Sirius!" I accused.
"Me?
Throw him aside? My parents disowned me for being a Gryffindor. He's
never stood up for me. He was into Slytherin. He's just like them!"
Sirius protested.
"You haven't given him a chance! Let alone a
side ways glance! He looks up to . He loves You. You're his older
brother, for crying out loud! I know I look up to my older brother, and
he's only a few minutes older than me. Put yourself in his shoes, walk
for a mile, then, see how you feel, watching your own brother getting
rejected, disowned, scorched out of the family picture, and not being
able to do anything. Think Sirius, how would you feel? I've spent the
last 15 minutes living his life, and, it's just horrid what he's gone
through," I finished my rant, gasping breath and sending quick glance at
Regulus.
"You are incredibly beautiful when you're angry," Sirius smirked. Regulus groaned.
"Don't change the subject, Black," I tried to suppress a smile.
"Oh, so now we're back to a last name bases, Longbottom," he wiggled his eyebrows. I laughed, putting my head in my hands.
"It's hard to be mad at you, when you're making me laugh," I sighed, holding back giggles.
"I know. I'm just so incredibly hard to be mad at," He flashed a cocky grin and I swooned slightly.
"Weren't you just yelling at him?" Regulus asked, raising and eyebrow.
"Right, Reg. I'm mad at you!" I pointed an angry finger at Sirius. He covered is mouth with his hands in mock sadness.
"But...no!
What will I do? Serana River Longbottom is mad at me! I'm melting! I'm
melting!" Sirius fell to the ground. I burst out laughing.
"Reg! Sirius is being mean to me!" I complained, bouncing back over to Regulus.
"First
off, I don't know how you came up with that nickname so quickly.
Second, I like it. Third, I rather don't enjoy your guys' flirting
sessions. I'll just be going now," he got up and he walked away. I
glared playfully at him.
"We don't have flirting sessions! I don't even know how flirt!" I yelled at him.
"Ask
Sirius! He'll tell you!" Reg shouted back, waving his hand
dismissively. I laughed. I looked back at Sirius who was looking at me
weirdly.
"Come on Razzy, get up. I'm going to read," I gave a hand.
"Are you going to keep calling me that?" Sirius whined.
"Yeah-huh. Until I come up with a better Nick name for you. What's your middle name?" I asked, looking up at him.
"Orion," he sighed. I giggled.
"Think my middle name's funny do ya River?" He glared playfully.
"No.
It's just Sirius, the star, is Orion, the constellation,'s dog. In the
night sky, which is portrayed as Black," I looked up at the sun. Sirius
nodded.
"Well, better be off. Nothing more boring than watching
someone else read while you can prank someone!" He exclaimed and ran
off. I smiled and chuckled. How'd this come to be? Us laughing and
smiling? When he tried to save me from Remus? Or when I saved him from
Frank's wrath? I really didn't know. I finally got to the Quidditch
Stadium. I climbed the stairs and sat at the top. A mid October breeze
blew gently. I opened my book and began to read.
By the
time I looked up from my book, I was more than half way done, but the
sun was minutes, maybe 10, from going down. I swore silently, shoved
'The Fellowship of the Ring,' into y bag and sprinted out of the
stadium. I ran through the castle. I ran into the Commen Room. Lils was
sitting on the couch, so I decided to throw my books at her. Before she
could protest, yelled "Watch them for me!" I ran into my dorm and
changed www.polyvore.com/cgi/set?id=10368...
I sprinted as fast
as my legs would carry me to the Forbidden Forest, trying to beat the
moon rising. There were no clouds, so it would be simple for the moon to
reach me. I dashed and dodged through the trees. Surprisingly, I found
Remus. He looked like he was in a lot of pain. I ran to him as pain shot
through my back, stomach, legs, arms, and head. I groaned.
"Leave,
Ana. We'll hurt each other. I told Sirius and someone else to look
after you," Remus screamed. I joined him. I ran deeper into the forest,
leaving my friend behind. My legs seemed to be able to carry me farther
with less effort than usual. I'd never been a runner. What felt like a
jolt of electricity shot up my spin, sending me tumbling to the ground. I
screamed/howled as my body transformed.
Third Person:
Ellie
and Sirius ran through the forest, following the screams and howls of
their friend, Serana. Sirius looked at Ellie, mentally telling her to
transform into their Animagus form. Sirius turned into his shaggy black
dog. Ellie took a deep breath and transformed into the winter tiger she
so desperately tried to turn herself into. That had been her first time
transforming while running. The tiger and the dog ran side-by-side until
they came upon their friend. She stood there, breathing heavily, fully a
wold. Her head slowly turned towards the tiger and dog.
"Prey,"
was the only thought in her vacent head. She charged the animals. The
dog jumped on her, digging its teeth into her neck. She wailed and
flailed her arms, trying to get the dog off her. She did eventually, but
the tiger swipped at her. She bellowed in pain. Her left arm stung from
the air in the wound. She limped as quickly as she could away, in the
direction of a familiar smell. Both her arms hurt and the back of her
neck. She didn't know why her right arm hurt. She looked down and saw
teeth marks of another wolf there. She sniffed it a realized that was
the sent she was following. Not blood, but other wolf. She didn't know
that dog and tiger followed carefully behind her.
She soon came
upon a clearing. Another wolf was battling off a stag and a rat. Serana
the werewolf charged at the stag and rat. If anyone was going to hurt
the other werewolf, it'd be her. The stag and the rat didn't notice her
appearance at all until she rammed full force into them. They both hit a
tree and crumbled to the ground. The tiger and the dog leaped, trying
to reach the wounded animal, or stop the full fledged war they sensed
was coming between both werewolves. The other werewolf swung his arm,
connecting with the tiger and dog mid-jump. The tumbled to the side.
Both werewolves, now that all distractions were out of the way, started
to circle each other, snapping their jaws each other a growling, waiting
for the other to make the first move. Serana slashed first. She
extended her paw and swung it with as much force as she could handle.
The other werewolf whimpered at the impact on his head. It left a gash
in his cheek. The other werewolf launched himself at Serana with all his
might. The rolled for a few seconds, clawing and snapping at each
other. The second werewolf scratched at Serana's already scarred sides,
leaving a large wound in her stomach. She howled in pain. She then
returned the gesture with a scratch running along the second werewolf's
face. He stumbled backwards and ran off howling into the woods. Limping
and whimpering, Serana also made her way into the woods. She found a
den-like area and fell asleep.
Normal POV:
"Wakey wakey sleepy head," someone whispered, shaking my shoulders. I opened my eyes. Jinxy. I hugged her.
"I'm so sorry!" I exclaimed, remembering last night.
"It's fine. Remus explained the whole deal. I knew I'd get hurt. Sorry 'bout your arm," she chuckled. I nodded. My eyes widened.
"Remus,"
I muttered. I flung my legs over the side of the bed and rushed to
Remus's side, in the bed across from me. I grabbed his hand and burst
into tears.
"Remus, I'm sorry. I didn't mean to find you. I didn't mean to..."
"Ana?" He whispered, his eyes opening. I nodded.
"Yeah! Are you ok?" I asked. He nodded, sitting up.
"Sorry about your stomach," he said, rubbing his temple. I laughed.
"That's ok. Sorry about your face," I touched the smaller scratch. He winced. I turned to Jinxy.
"What did you tell Lily?" I asked.
"I
told her we were attacked in the woods and that Remus, Sirius, James,
and Peter came to our aid. I said you were hurt the most trying to
protect us," She smiled smugly. I smiled back.
"I'm going to go.
Don't want to be late for Potions," I waved to them. As I left, I
noticed Jinxy kissed Remus's forehead. Awww!!
