Chapter 20
"Muuum! Fraaank!" I whined loudly, hopping down the stairs from my room to the dinning room.
"Seraaana, whaaat?" Frank mocked. I glared playfully at him and crossed my arms.
"Mum, I'm bored!" I complained.
"Well,
if your bored on the first day of summer, why don't you go to the
muggle village nearby?" She turned to me from making pancakes. My face
lit up.
"Really? I can go? Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" I
screeched, hugging her before running back upstairs to change.

I looked back into my room
just as I was about to leave. A silver heart on a silver chain caught my
eye. I reached out to grab it. My fingers wrapped around the chain so I
could pull it closer. Water filled my eyes as I read the engagement.
"To
the world, you may be just another girl. But to me, baby you are the
world," I whispered to myself. I placed it in my back pocket, not
wanting Frank or Mum to see it. I quickly took the next necklace I saw
instead. I clasped the best friend necklace around my neck before
bounding downstairs.
"I'm going! Bye Mum! Bye Frank!" I called as I skipped out the door.
"I expect you home before midnight!" Mum yelled.
"OK
Mum!" I ran as quickly as I possibly could to the small Muggle Village
by my home. It was hot, so everyone was wearing sunglasses and hats. The
men didn't wear shirts and the girls all wore shorts in which you could
see their butts. I cringed. Muggles were truly strange.
That thought went away immediately when I realized what store I was in front of.
"The
book store!" I practically screamed. The muggles nearby looked at me
strangely, but I ignored their glances and sprinted into the store,
making sure I had the correct money.
"Hello dear. How may I help you?" The kind looking, old lady from behind the desk asked me.
"Hello! I'm looking for Lord Of The Rings or Chronicles Of Narnia," I told her. She nodded.
"Those are very good books. Right this way, dear." The woman got up and walked to the back of the bookstore.
"I don't believe I've seen you here before. Are you new?" She smiled kindly at me.
"No,
ma'am. My mother, brother and I live just over the hill there. I've
never been here before, though," I explained, grinning at the books.
"You
seem to really like books. I've been waiting to sell these books to
someone who will really care for them," She told me. My eyes widened.
She pulled out a box. When I said this woman was old, I didn't mean like
ages, but probably in her 50's.
I gingerly opened the box. A
gasp escaped my lips. Inside the box of coolness, was 'The Hobbit', all
three 'Lord Of The Rings', 'The Salmarillian', and 'The Chronicles Of
Narnia'.
"Wow," was all I could say. The old woman chuckled.
"Here, I'll let you have them all for 25 pounds." She handed me the box. I gaped at her.
"No!
I'll take them for 50 pounds. They're worth at least that much!" I
pulled 50 muggle pounds from my bag and handed them to her. She beamed
at me.
"Thank you dear. You really are a book lover as I," She bowed her head slightly.
"My name's Serana," I said. I held out my hand.
"Emily." She shook my hand.
"I should leave. I'll visit, Emily!" I promised her before leaving her shop.
I
walked around town, the weight of the twelve books in my bag not
effecting my mood at all. I was beaming and nodding at people as they
walked by. I hadn't ever read 'The Hobbit' or 'The Salmarillion', but if
they were written by J. R. R. Tolkien, they had to be good.
A huge sign stopped me in my tracks.
"Auditions
Now! The Little Mermaid!" It read. I squealed. The Little Mermaid had
to be one of my favourite children stories. I walked up to the person
standing out front.
"Hello? Can I sign up for an audition?" I asked her. She beamed at me.
"Of course, honey! Just sign your name here and what role you'd like!" She explained, handing me a pen and paper.
"Serana
Longbottom. Arial. Great! Thank you. Head right in." The girl handed me
another paper, but this had a number on it. I walked into the theater. I
took a seat on the row of chairs next to a girl with long blonde hair
and green eyes. She was a little thicker then most girls, but she seemed
so cheerful that it didn't even matter.
"Hello! I'm Charlotte Charles," She said as I sat down.
"I'm Serana Longbottom," I said back, "nice to meet you Charlotte."
"Oh, please. Call me Charlie!" Her accent was obviously Scotish, no doubt about it.
"OK, then, Charlie. Who are you auditioning for?" I asked her.
"Ursula." Her head nodes up and down, "who are you?"
"Arial. I just really like her songs. I think you'd be a great Ursula. " I reassured her.
"Thanks. Your red hair would make you a great Arial. And you seem just like her!" Charlie beamed at me.
"You're really nice, you know. Do you live in this village?" I asked her.
"Yeah. I live with my Grandmother, Emily, in the book store just down the way," She tilted her head to the side slightly.
"Really? I just bought 12 books from her!" I exclaimed.
"That's awesome! So, she finally decided to sell her J. R. R. Tolkien and C. S. Lewis books." She nodded slowly.
"Can I call you Ana?" She asked.
"Yeah, sure." That's when the doors burst open.
"Outta my way, losers! The man is in the house!" A voice which was all too familiar filled my ears.
"No, no, no, no, no, no, no!" I breathed.
"What?" Charlotte put a hand on my shoulder.
"It's him! It's Sirius Black," I hissed.
"Hey,
Red. You're too beautiful to sit with this fat loser," Sirius was
obviously smirking as he sat next to me. I turned my head towards
Charlie so he couldn't see my face.
"Oi, Red. I'm talking to you." he snapped his fingers in my face. My head involuntarily twisted to face him.
"What makes you think I want to talk to you?" I snapped.
"River? Whatcha doing here?" He smirked at me, making my heart flutter.
"Obviously auditioning. What about you?" I asked sarcastically.
"Oh,
you know. Looking for girls to snog," he shrugged. I shook my head and
turned back to Charlie. Tears slowly but surely welled up in my eyes.
"Ana? You OK?" Charlie whispered. I nodded, wiping away my tears.
"Charlotte Charles!" A guy called from on stage.
"That's me. Gotta roll," She winked at me.
"Good luck," I whispered.
"So, it's just you and me now, babe," Sirius sat down next to me and touched my shoulder.
"Don't touch me," I hissed.
"Woah, babe. Calm yourself down there," he laughed.
"Don't
talk to me. Go away," I crossed my arms and turned away from him. After
a few seconds of silence, he started playing with my hair. I closed my
eyes and bit my lip.
"I told you not to touch me," I snapped, trying to keep my voice calm.
"I know you can't resist me," he mocked. I felt the tears come back.
"Go away, please," I whimpered.
"Babe, what's wrong?" He asked.
"Just go away Sirius! Please! And stop calling me babe!" I cried. He sighed.
"What's
this?" I felt his hand reach into my back pocket. I tried to slap his
hand away before he could take out his necklace, but it didn't work.
"You kept it? In your pocket?" He held out the necklace. I snatched it away from him and put it back into my back pocket.
"Serana Longbottom!" The guy shouted. I stormed in, leaving Sirius alone, dumbfounded.
"WE DID IT!" Charlie and I shrieked at the same time. We'd both gotten our parts.
"I wonder who Eric will be," Charlie said.
"Guess who, love?" Someone covered up my eyes. I elbowed Sirius in the gut, making him take his hands away from my eyes.
"Ow! That hurt!" He exclaimed.
"Good," I spat.
