Hippocampus
Chapter 2
The creature I am writing about this time, Yogi, is the Hippocampus. The Hippocampus' name comes from the Greek words for horse and sea monster, so a Hippocampus resembles a sea monster with horse features. A Hippocampus bears resemblance to a Capricorn, half goat, half fish, only a Hippocampus is half horse, half fish. I find the Hippocampus interesting because of how many different colors they come in and the different locations you can find them in. Hippocampi, the plural form of Hippocampus, do not only come in one color, but many, depending on where they live. As such, Hippocampi are not restricted to only one part of the world. They live all over, from the United States to Europe and Asia.
Now I have a story for you, Yogi. When I was on vacation in Florida, I visited a wildlife park. While I was watching all of the manatees, I saw a black object swimming in the distance, in the open water. I didn't have a pair of binoculars, so I couldn't tell for certain what it was, but I didn't think it was a manatee. I continued to look at it, trying to figure out if I could tell what it was. The black object surfaced for air and then moved its body through the water, going under again. I thought it might be a dolphin, having experiences with dolphins and how they move their bodies through the water, but dolphins were gray in color and I was certain that this was black in color. I wished somehow that I could get closer to it to get a positive confirmation on what it was, but without binoculars and breaking several laws, that was impossible. I could only theorize as to what the object was that I saw, given the facts. It was all black in color and it was living in Florida. I thought of a Hippocampus, but I remembered those were only found in the Mediterranean, with the exception of the ones found in different parts of the world...including Florida! Was it really a Hippocampus I saw? Maybe. I hope it's around the next time I come, because I want to get a better look at it.
