Chapter 2
The last week of school, girls and boys of Beauxbatons Academy were bustling with gossip.
While I studied ruthlessly for an upcoming Potions exam in the courtyard, a little group of students at a nearby bench snickered away.
‘Victoria got expelled!’
‘Maybe she cheeked the teachers so badly she has to go to a private disciplinary school!’
‘She did do that horrible thing to Professor Ross, though, didn’t she?’
‘Oh, rotten luck, I guess!’
The little group giggled to themselves, communicating in loud whispers.
‘She’s such an unladylike rebel!’
I sighed. Someone walking past my bench knocked a pile of books over and didn’t even bother to help me pick them up. I bent over.
‘Oh, don’t do that! You’ll knock all your pathetic knowledge out of there!’
Through gritted teeth, I picked up all the books and stacked them on the bench table.
‘Hey! Freak! Do a spell for me!’
I silently packed my books into my dark blue bag and stood up to face the group. Most were the regular idiots, though some new faces had made an appearance…Then I saw the face of Aurélie Dumont. For a moment, I was taken aback at seeing her there. Her face in the crowd of people who had once complimented me daily. Though as her smile widened at the people who surrounded her, I realised she was just using me as bait.
‘You were my friend!’ I yelled.
‘Was I?’ She giggled, erupting laughs from the rest of the group. ‘Oops, I guess I was.’
‘You were,’ I said, calming my tone. I saw Lucy take out her wand. ‘Expelliarmus!’ I shout quickly, aiming my wand at her. The Disarming Charm. My favourite. Aurélie’s wand bounced out of her hand. As she reached back down, I called out another spell. ‘Flipendo!’ A burst of blue light appeared out of my wand, and Aurélie flew backwards. All her friends started snickering, as Aurélie struggled to stand up. ‘You beast!’ She shrieked. She pulled out her wand. ‘Stupe-’
‘Reducto!’ I yelled. The wand threw out of Aurélie’s hand and dropped on to the ground, breaking into five small pieces.
Aurélie waved her hand around helplessly, and by now, a crowd began to form around the two spell-casters. Aurélielooked at me pleadingly.
‘Sectumsempra!’ As soon as the words came out of my mouth, I knew what I was going to do. A cold smile came on my lips, and I kept walking until I was right in front of where Aurélie was lying, scratches all over her body and her eyes big.
‘Petrificus Totalus!’ I shouted as I saw her trying to get up.
There was an opening of doors, and I suddenly saw Professor Wilson come into view.
‘What’s going on down there?’ She yells, starting to run. She takes in what she’s seeing. ‘Victoria Quinn! How dare you cast a spell on a fellow student! Go to the headmistress, now!’ She sprints down to where I’m standing, and her mouth falls open as she sees what I’ve done to my archenemy. ‘You’ve really done it this time, Quinn.’ She murmurs faintly. ‘Off to the headmistress’ office, now! And wait till your mother and father hear about this!’
‘You are expelled!’ Madame Maxine declared coldly.
‘So I came here just for you to say that?’ I said coolly. ‘Anyway, I thought I was already expelled, since I’m going to Hogwarts?’ I fold my arms and lean back in my chair, raising my eyebrows. ‘So what did I do this time?’
‘What have you done?! What do you mean, ‘what have I done’?!’ The headmistress screamed in my face. ‘You performed a dangerous spell on Miss Dumont, that’s what you did, you stupid girl! You deserve to be in Askaban, you monstrous child!’
‘Well, at least I didn’t kill her!’ I say mockingly.
That just caused her nose to flare up like never before.
‘Get out of my office now! And your bags and trunk are waiting outside!’ She spat. I just shrugged while walking out of the office.
I wasn’t leaving here until I finished what I started.
I went to the Hospital Wing. When I walked in, I saw a half dead body of Aurélie Dumont, my greatest enemy, out of all of them. She was covered in plasters and her body was wrapped in a special kind a bandage material, unable to move. Perfect for what I was going to perform.
When she saw me, she tried to scream, but before any sound came out of her mouth, I cast one of my favourite spells.
‘Silencio.’
She tried to shriek, call for help, but she was under my grasp. When I walked silently over to her, I could see a tear escape her eye. I caught it just before it disappeared.
‘Sweetie, don’t be scared, everything will be alright,’ I whispered with a sickly sweet tone of voice. ‘You’re going to join your mother and father now, right?’
I could see she was trying to move, but she was numb and mute. Trapped. She saw me pointing my wand at her, shaking her head violently and begging silently for mercy, but I knew what I had to do.
‘Avada Kedavra.’ I whispered.
Her body went limp, and as I felt for a pulse, she was ice-cold. Dead. I silently praised myself and tiptoed outside into the courtyard. After that incident, I knew I would never be coming back to Beauxbaton’s Academy for Magic again.
