Lesson Six: Flashy Flying Study Guide

Chapter 7

One-Handed Flying

This technique is great when on a Quidditch team as Chasers, Beaters, & Seekers. To use this technique means to balance & direct yourself. Use your legs to steer instead. If you start to drift, decrease the pressure your using & keep the broom as straight as possible. Rarely, one hand assists in downward pressure & the other is keeping the broom stable (upward pressure), which can cause the broom to rocket up or down.

Flying Side Saddle

Both legs are on one side of the broom. Most times, you will sit on the side where your dominant hand does the front steering. This technique is extra difficult because it can be hard to stay stable on the broom. This type of flying is commonly used for fashion & manner. Witches & wizards with back, leg, or spine problems, as well as pregnant witches, also use this technique. Your vision is narrow while using this technique, so turn your head often to see around you.

Climbing, Falling, Weaving, & Flying In Formation

This is the technique of flying high & low. To increase height, pull the handle upwards. Do not lean forward, as you will fly up too fast. You should be able to adapt to the increase or decrease of height easily & smoothly. Weaving is the technique of curving. Slide back & forth, or side to side. While doing so, alter your heights to weave & fly. In Quidditch, Chasers come in groups of threes & wedge themselves like a wall with little to no room for a person to fly through. With this technique, different heights, distance, & directions are used at the same time & change quickly.
