How to become an expert ballerina

written by Oliwia Melody

Belly in! Ribs in! Shoulders down! Chin down! These are only some of the things your ballet teacher would say. This is not a book about magic but, one of my biggest passions are ballet. This book will be about how to become the greatest ballerina!

Basics: Steps

Chapter 6

In ballet, there is lots and lots of steps which might sound weird, but when you get to know them they won't sound that weird. I myself can't even spell them, but can pronounce them! Here are some of the steps I will be explaining:

  • Shondmon

  • Sotay in first

  • Eshapej sotay onqua

  • Eshapej sotay to second

  • Supersoe

Firstly, we will talk about shondmons. Again, I don't know if I spelt it correct! Now, a shondmon is changing feet in third position. Always ALWAYS turn your feet and knees out when landing!

Secondly, we are going to be doing sotays in first. If you read the chapter about positions, you will know what position first is. This jump is basically jumping starting from first then landing and ending in first. Again, turn out knees and toes!

Eshapej sote onqua is, jumping to fourth then back to third, jumping out to second then back to third but changing feet!

Eshapej sotay to second is jumping to second then coming back in and changing feet while doing that.

Supersoes always start in third, then, they jump and land in third yet with the same foot not like a shondmon.

Those were only some of the moves! There is also padasha, seaso, gleasad those are all jumps but you should know that I can't explain them all.  There is also shasej yet that is not a jump!
