Getting started: positions in arms
Chapter 3
Now, we have talked about all of the leg positions! Some normal people will think 'What?' 'Your going crazy!' 'Are there even arm positions in ballet?' Well, my answer is that there are. Here are going to be some basic arm positions which everyone should know (though there are some more out there!)
The first one is brarbar. This is taught in primary ballet! You must always know this one because whenever you finish a dance, you will normally go into this positon. Here are some important tips:
- Make sure that you hands are turned out at all times!
- Put your arms down straight yet not too straight!
- Here is how brarbar looks like:
The next position you might want to know is second position. You might be thinking 'We already done feet!' Well, this is a second arm position! This is taught in grade 2. Some tips are:
- Put your arms forward but not too forward
- Put your hands a LITTLE bit down then elbows above
- Make sure the palm of your hand is facing forward
- Here is what it looks like:

Onavon is an arm position which makes both of your arms against you at the height of your belly button and is taught in grade 2. You must alaways remember to:
- Bend your arms towords yourself yet not to much
- Make your palm of your hand face the ceiling as much as you can
- This is how it looks like:
Oncoron is an arm position taught in grade 2. This is onavon but with your arms above your head sometimes looking at your hands while doing this. It's really important to:
- Have your hands above your head not in front or back
- Have your arms a little bit bent
- This is exactly how it looks like:
