The Girl
Chapter 1
Once upon a time, there was a girl named Sophie. Sophie loved to read and explore. One day as her parents were scolding her for reading she decided to go outside and read. She went outside and then found a tunnel. This tunnel was like one found in mines. Dirty and gross but she loved it. She spent her days reading there and at night she would sneak some snacks for the next day's trip. Her parents were never worried about her. She was responsible, smart, and kind.
One day as Sophie was going outside to her tunnel to read her parents questioned, “where are you going? You're rarely ever home anymore. We get so worried about you.”
Sophie answered, “Just going into the woods to read nothing much.” So off she went to her tunnel. But when she got there, there was already somebody there. Before Sophie could run, scream, or even think the world went black. Sophie was still awake but in the dark. Then there was a voice.
The voice said, “If you want to make it out alive I suggest you cooperate or else you’ll end up like me.” Then Sophie came back to the real world. She looked around and there was no ghost, just the person sitting there. Then he got up and floated straight through the wall. Sophie almost screamed, but she didn’t. She kept saying to herself listen to the voice. She didn’t want to die, at least not this way. What would happen to her parents if she died? Would they die or get kidnapped? Sophie decided that she would cooperate.
When the ghost came back he asked meanly, “what's your name? I’m um I don’t remember, everyone calls me Tommy.”
“I-I-I’m S-S-Sophie. H-hi T-T-Tom,” stuttered Sophie.
Tom studied her for a second then asked, “Are you going to do whatever you came here for?”
Sophie replied, “I’m allowed to read?”
Tom replied, “of course. We’re not monsters. Just not leaving this building. If you need anything, come and ask me. Any food, books, or
clothes.”
“W-w-why c-can’t I-I l-leave,” Sophie asked through tears.
“There’s a ghost out there trying to kill you. So no leaving,” replied Tom.
“What about my parents?” Asked Sophie more steadily.
“We’re going to get them. Do they know about this place or just you,” asked Tom?
“Just me,” replied Sophie “Please don’t tell them. Tell them you found me in the woods reading.”
“Ok,” Tom replied, “as long as you stay here like a good girl. I’m leaving you with my friend Bob. Ask him if you need anything.”
“Can you get my purple cat that’s on my bed, please? Ask my parents if you can’t find it,” replied Sophie.
“Ok,” replied Tom.
“It’s ok if you can’t find him, it's only a stuffed animal,” stated Sophie, “Oh and can you get me a new book? I'm almost done with this Sherlock Holmes book. Just get me the whole series from my shelf. Thanks.” And with that, he was off. Sophie decided to do a little exploring. She found a secret passage and went in it. There were more secret passages in the secret passage. She should get back though Tom told her to stay there. She can come back with Tom and her parents. She was just about to turn back when she tripped over something. She dropped to her knees and almost died in shock. There was a dead body. She ran back and saw that Tom was back.
She ran to Tom and whispered because she was out of breath, “There is a dead body over here I was exploring and I found it. I think it’s your friend Bob. I’m so sorry.” With that Sophie burst into tears and ran towards where the body was.
Tom explained once Sophie stopped running, “This is where Bob and I died. I buried my body but Bob insisted on leaving his. No reason to cry. It’s okay Sophie you didn’t kill him. We should go though we have a different tunnel. The ghost Haylee already knows we’re here. So we gotta move. Here’s the stuff you asked for and some more your parents insisted on bringing. Let’s go now Haylee will be here soon. She’s the one that made Bob and I the way we are.”
Sophie replied, “I’m sorry to hear that. Ok then let’s go pack if we have to leave.” So Tom went and packed up while Sophie talked to her parents.
“Mom Dad I’m so glad you’re okay. This is the place I’ve been going during
the day to read and today this Tom was here and told me about Haylee. I'm sorry I lied to you. I hate lying to you, sorry. I just thought that if I told you you wouldn’t let me go out and…,” Sophie explained. Then she started crying.
“Sophie, it's ok. At least you told us now. It is kinda nice down here. I like it. We got you Stella, your cat. We know you can’t sleep without him. We also packed some snacks for you. We aren’t allowed to come with you. But we love you. If you need anything, call us. We got you a phone. We were going to give it to you today. We’ll miss you. We also got you some clothes, water, and some blankets.,” said her mom.
“We love you, Sophie. We’ll miss you. Call us every day if you're aloud,” explained her dad. After that Sophie burst into tears and hugged her parents. She didn’t want to say goodbye but she had to stay safe.
“Why c-can’t you c-come?” Asked Sophie through tears.
“We would love to come. We can’t make it seem like you're gone. We have to live our lives like normal,” With that, her parents left. Sophie cried for hours. There was nothing she could do except love her parents more. She missed them but she had to move on. She loved them. It’s time to stand up to the ghost. She can take me but not my parents. It was time she fought back.
