Trigger warnings: smoking, drinking, pills, adult themes/dialogue

-

Hogwarts, 1995, Elizabeth Robyn Williams has started her fifth (though technically her first) year. She is sorted into Slytherin in front of everyone in the Great Hall. Not two weeks ago she was living in an alleyway between the Marshall Theater and a Subway. Two weeks ago she was waiting for the 10 pm movies to end so she could get something to eat from whatever people left behind. In the trash can, of course. Two weeks ago, she was approached by a stranger wearing green dress robes and a pointy hat.

She was in the middle of digging through trash cans, thinking everyone had left the street. This woman appeared out of thin air, quite literally so. Elizabeth, or Liz to everyone except the social workers, has had the most surreal two weeks of her life. After finding out she was a witch, she packed her things into a small backpack and went to Scotland. Liz found out the woman who approached her was Professor Minerva McGonagall, deputy headmistress and Transfiguration professor at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

They went to a place called Diagon Alley, where Liz got her wand. It is made out of maple wood with a dragon heartstring core, 12 and a half inches. The two went from store to store buying her books and materials for the year. Liz not having any money was gifted all of her school supplies by McGonagall herself. From there, she was taken to the home of the Weasleys, where she would stay for the next two weeks until the start of term. The Weasleys were a giant family, all with flaming red hair. She learned all about them from McGonagall during their trip to Diagon Alley.

Liz was introduced as a foreign exchange student from America to Mr. and Mrs. Weasley. McGonagall was speaking with them privately, and Liz overheard everything, mostly on purpose.

"I know this is a lot to ask," McGonagall started, "Elizabeth is from America. How she ended up there remains a mystery, though when I arrived she was eating food out of a trash can. The Ministry sent me to inform her and her family of the matter, but I found her alone. She needs a place to stay until she can go to Hogwarts."

The Weasleys seemed really caring and wanted to help. "Of course she is welcome here. How old did you say she is?" Mr. Weasley asked.

"She's sixteen. Even though she's never had any experience or learned anything whatsoever... Dumbledore insists on her joining the rest of the fifth years."

"Oh well, that's wonderful! She'll be with Ron and Harry," Mrs. Weasley smiled.

They came into the room where Liz was waiting and said hello. Barely a minute passed when Liz noticed two tall, identical boys standing at the door.

"Were you going to introduce us, mum?" the first boy asked. Mrs. Weasley jumped. "How long have you been standing there?"

"We've been here the whole time," the other boy stated.

Mrs. Weasley sighed, "Fred, George, this is Elizabeth, a foreign exchange student. She'll be staying here until school starts. Elizabeth, this is Fred and George."

Before she had a chance to say anything at all, the twins were right in front of her, asking question after question.

"Where are you from?" "How'd you get here?" "Does she speak English, mum?" They both turned to look at Mrs. Weasley.

"You haven't given her a chance to speak!" Mr. Weasley laughed.

Everyone was looking at Liz, Fred and George excited to get their questions answered.

"Uhm, yes, I speak English," she said quietly.

Fred and George's eyes lit up, "Wow! An American!" "Ron! Ginny! Get down here!"

Liz answered every single question they asked, from how she liked Diagon Alley to what it's like in America. They all seemed really nice and Liz was quite happy that she'd be staying with them.

The following two weeks were insane. Liz was learning so much about the Wizard world and magic. There was too much that her brain didn't have the time to realize how mental this was. Witches, wizards, magic... She had just been going along with it.

It didn't feel real. She felt like this was some crazy lucid dream and any minute she'd wake up.

She learned about Hogwarts and how the Sorting Hat will put her in a house. Liz hoped she'd be in Gryffindor so she could stay with the Weasleys. They assured her that even if she wasn't put in Gryffindor, they would still be friends and hang out with her.

"Except if you get put in Slytherin," Ron added.

Liz hoped she wasn't going to be in Slytherin.

From the sounds of it, Hogwarts was going to be so thrilling and so different from her life back home. It almost felt euphoric; the thought of being able to leave everything behind and start new as A WITCH.

She learned how to play Quidditch with Fred and George. The broom practically jumped off of the grass and into her hand when she said, "Up." All she was doing was laughing and having fun with the twins.

During her life, she's never thought about whether or not magic existed. Of course, there are magicians but that's never real magic, and of course, there are Pagans but this was nothing like anything she's ever heard about.

Everything amazed her. Dishes that washed themselves, scarves that knit themselves, owls that bring the post. But the thing she loved the most was Quidditch. Flying on a broom felt so liberating. Sure, it took a day or two of practice (and a lot of bruises), but she was getting pretty good! By her second week there, Ron and Ginny joined in too.

They were playing more "official" matches now. The twins didn't go as easy on her and Ron stopped letting her win. She'd only fall off her broom 3 or 4 times instead of 7 or 8.

She got the Quaffle from Ginny and was making her way to the opposite side of the field. Her eyes were kept on Ron, who was trying to block her. She attempted to pass the Quaffle to George but was too far off. He dove for it and ended up slipping and falling 40 feet. Mrs. Weasley was walking outside with a letter in her hand.

"Ron! Come see this- George! Be careful! Are you alright? Yes? Okay, Ron!"

Ron went to see what she wanted while George got back on his broom. "I'm sorry George! That was my bad," Liz apologized.

"Don't worry about it. I've taken nastier falls than that," he replied.

Fred added, "It's true, I've seen it."

"George, give me the Quaffle," Ginny started but was interrupted by a very upset Ron.

"WHAT? There's no way, they can't expel him!" He yelled frustratingly.

"They won't, Ron. It was self-defense," Molly said.

"But it was in front of a Muggle! Oh, there's no way, this isn't happening!"

The rest of them went to see what had happened. Ron's friend, Harry, got into trouble with the Ministry of Magic. Liz knew about the Ministry by now, they're like the magical government. Anyways, one of the most important rules is that Muggles can't find out about them. Another rule is underage wizards can't do magic outside of school. So this Harry guy was with his Muggle cousin and a dementor - this terrifying creature that sucks your soul out - attacked them. Harry saved his cousin and now he might be expelled.

They all tried to assure Ron that the Ministry couldn't expel Harry, but it was no use. He went on and on about how he'll never get to see his best friend again. Molly took him inside to calm down.

"Ron's friend won't go to jail, will he? I mean, he broke the rules but it was justified," Liz asked.

"No, he's Harry Potter, they can't do anything to him. Especially if Dumbledore gets involved," George said.

"Either way he wouldn't just be going to jail, he'd be sent to Azkaban," Fred exclaimed.

Thus started the conversation about Azkaban.

"Absolutely brutal, dementors at every cell!"

"Wait, you said the Ministry won't be able to do anything because this guy is Harry Potter. What does that mean?" Liz asked.

And thus started the conversation about Harry Potter. And consequently, Voldemort.

A very long story short, an evil wizard (Voldemort) was defeated by an infant (Harry Potter), and that really damaged Voldemort's fragile masculinity and ego. So now he's on a mission to kill Harry.

Molly told them to stop talking about "You-Know-Who" and come eat dinner.

Eventually, the day came for them to go to Hogwarts. Liz was beyond excited. Everything ended up working out with Harry, so Ron was a lot more relaxed. They went to the train station and to platform 9 and three-quarters. As always, Liz was just going with it. If all of this exists, platform 9 and three quarters exists.

Then she saw the twins run straight through a wall and became hesitant.

She was forcing all of the logic out of her brain. For whatever reason, she wasn't going to run into a brick wall. But she got through the barrier perfectly fine and waited for the rest of the Weasleys.

They made their way onto the train and Fred disappeared with George, Ginny went to find her friends, Ron went to sit with Harry and Liz sat down in an empty compartment. She watched the trees whiz by and ate the tuna sandwich Molly made for her.

A girl suddenly opened the door, sat down, and closed it in a rush.

"Hi, sorry," she said out of breath, checking to see if anyone was following her, "Had to escape Crabbe and Goyle."

"It's okay," Liz laughed, "I'm Liz."

The girl held her hand out and Liz shook it, she smiled and said, "I'm Pansy. Parkinson. Are you new?"

"Yeah, I just found out about magic and stuff like two weeks ago."

"Damn! So you don't know your house yet?"

Liz shook her head. "Damn! Well, if you get Slytherin we can totally be best friends. Chocolate frog?" She gave Liz the chocolate frog and Liz thanked her.

From what she's heard, Slytherin is the worst house. Then again, all of the Weasleys are Gryffindors and there has always been a feud between the two houses. Now, Liz wished she would be in Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw, just to stay out of it.

For the rest of the train ride, Pansy and Liz just talked. Pansy told her about some of the Hogwarts drama and asked Liz about her likes, dislikes, and hobbies. They were quickly becoming friends, which was relieving for Liz. If she gets put in Gryffindor, she'll have the Weasleys, and if she's in Slytherin, she'll have Pansy.

And finally, finally, finally, they got to Hogwarts. It was so much more breathtaking and invigorating than she could have ever imagined. From the castle to the magical creatures and everyone catching up with friends... She already felt like a part of this community.

She walked with Pansy through the castle to the Great Hall. Liz would find every single detail so incredible and Pansy would say, "I know! Amazing, isn't it?"

They parted ways when Professor McGonagall pulled her aside to be with the first years for the sorting ceremony. She would be going first since she's technically in her fifth year and doesn't have a house yet.

And now here we are, Hogwarts, 1995, Elizabeth Robyn Williams has started her fifth year. She is sorted into Slytherin in front of everyone in the Great Hall.

The Slytherins are all clapping but Pansy Parkinson was practically cheering. Liz goes to sit with her, and Pansy pulls her into a hug. "I already made arrangements for us to be roommates!" she squeals.

They watched the rest of the ceremony together and Pansy introduced her to some of her friends. She met Millicent Bulstrode, Astoria and Daphne Greengrass, and Blaise Zabini. They ate the best food Liz has tasted in months, and soon enough they started to go back to their common room.

Liz and Pansy unpacked their things in their dorm. "You should go talk to some people! Make some friends! I'll be there in a minute, go on!"

When she looked around the common room, she didn't know where to start. She saw a group of some guys and began to make her way over to them. Though, out of nowhere, someone steps directly in front of her.

"Elizabeth, is it?" the boy asks.

Liz looked up at a tall boy with dark, curly hair and brown eyes.

"Mattheo Riddle," he shakes her hand.

"Liz," she says. "And your second name?" Mattheo asks.

"Williams."

"Right," he replies.

He seems to study her face, analyze every detail. "There's a party tonight. Come."

"Where?"

"I'm sure you won't have too much trouble finding it yourself," he smiles and walks away.

Liz isn't sure if that interaction counts as making friends. She spots Pansy coming into the common room and sticks next to her, following her from friend group to friend group.

"This is my wife, you guys have to be nice to her," she says to the third group they've talked to. Millicent starts talking about the party that Mattheo invited her to. "Oh. My. Godric. Liz, we have to go! It'll be your first Slytherin party!"

Liz says she'll go if Pansy goes, and they immediately go back to their dorm. Pansy has Liz try on all of her dresses and skirts after seeing how the entirety of Liz's wardrobe fits in half of a drawer. The outfit they picked out for Liz was a green plaid skirt, a black belt, a black long sleeve turtleneck, and fishnet tights with black ankle boots. Pansy wanted them to have similar outfits so she was going to wear a plain green skirt, a black long sleeve, and a grey blazer over top.

She does both of their makeup and talks about all of the fun they're about to have. Pansy mentions needing to leave early to talk to someone. She was being very vague but Liz didn't want to ask any questions. All she asked was how to get there.

Pansy tells her, "Leave the common room at 10:33, take a right, then your first left, go down the stairs on your right, take two more rights, then the second left. There will be four doors, you'll know which one is the right one."

Then she says she'll see Liz in a bit and leaves. Liz leaves the common room at exactly 10:33 and starts booking it through the halls. Right, left, down the stairs, right, right, second left. She sees the four doors, two of them are open and two of them are closed. She peers into one of the rooms and inside is complete darkness. A pair of eyes open and stare at her, and she goes to the two closed doors. She notices the letter 'S' carved into the wood under the handle of one of the doors and opens it.

There is a staircase on the other side of the door. It is dark and there's no sound, but she goes in. As soon as she closes the door behind her, the stairway lights up, and music and voices boomed. She walks up the stairs and is greeted immediately by Pansy.

"You're here! Come on, let's get shots."

They each take a shot of firewhiskey. Pansy looks straight into her eyes and says, "Drop it."

"What?"

"Your shot glass. Drop it. Here I'll do it with you," she counts to three. They drop their shot glasses and right before they hit the ground, they disappear. Liz looks to the counter where they originally got their shots and the two that they took had appeared back in the same spot, clean.

Liz's jaw drops. "I know right!" Pansy exclaims.

They do more shots together, laugh together, and dance together. While they're dancing, Liz looks up and sees a white-haired boy standing across the room, looking at her. They make eye contact for seconds, Liz smiles, winks, then looks back to Pansy.

Pansy gasps, "You did NOT just wink at Draco Malfoy! Lizzy! He was totally checking you out!"

"He's cute, like, really cute," Liz says. "Duh!" Pansy responds.

They dance until the song ends, then Pansy sees Blaise and suggests they go smoke with him.

"Ah, Parkinson. How did you know I was about to roll a blunt?" He jokes.

They sit down together in a circle by the wall. And like a cheesy romance movie, the cute guy from before sits down with them. Though, he doesn't say a word.

"You're Liz, right?" Blaise asks. "It's her first Slytherin party," Pansy says.

"Well, then, you should get the first hit," he smiles and hands the blunt to her. She lights it and takes a hit. She blows out the smoke and asks, "Do you guys pass to the right or left here?"

"Left. Always," Pansy informs. Liz passes it to Draco.

"Are we going to ignore how she didn't even fucking cough? Do you have lungs of steel or something?" Blaise asks.

Pansy tells, "You should've seen her earlier! I mean, shot after shot, keeping a straight face the entire time. She's a fucking champ!"

"So are you some kind of party animal?" Blaise wonders.

"You could say that," Liz replies, "The first time I smoked I was 13."

"Huh, interesting," he says.

Draco takes his hit and Blaise makes fun of him for coughing, "Damn, Malfoy. Don't make us look like little bitches in front of Liz."

He hands Blaise the weed but doesn't say anything. "So who are you here with?" Blaise asks, then takes a hit.

"I invited her," Pansy states. "Well, actually, someone else invited me right before you did," Liz adds. "I don't remember his name. It was Matt or Matthew or something... Mattheo! His name's Mattheo."

"Riddle?" Draco asks, finally speaking up. "Yeah, Mattheo Riddle," Liz says.

"Ugh, don't talk to that guy. Riddle's a pureblood asshole," Blaise says.

"Draco's a pureblood asshole," Pansy jokes. Draco gives her a death stare, Blaise and Pansy laugh.

"What does that mean? Pureblood?" Liz asks. "Basically," Blaise starts, "People are either purebloods, half-bloods, or mud-bloods. If there has never been a single Muggle in a family line, they're purebloods. Any mix of a Muggle and a wizard is a half-blood, and if two Muggles have a magical baby, it's a mud-blood. Pansy's half, Malfoy and I are purebloods. What about you?"

"I don't know," Liz says, "I was adopted by Muggles when I was two so I don't know my blood status."

Pansy takes her hit and passes Liz the blunt. "Wait, so is being a pureblood what makes Mattheo an asshole?" she asks.

"No, no," Blaise says, "Riddle's a literal fucking psychopath."

"Yeah, that's an understatement," Draco mumbles.

"You know, I used to be caught up in a situation with a sociopath. That shit was terrifying, I can't imagine how dangerous a sociopathic wizard would be," Liz says. Everyone went quiet, "Did I say something?"

Pansy says, "Well, do you know who Voldemort is?" Liz notices Draco slightly flinching when Pansy says the name.

"Yeah, that evil wizard who got killed or something by that famous kid Harry."

"Exactly," Pansy says, "He got defeated by Potter fifteen or so years ago. Ever since he got to Hogwarts, You-Know-Who has come back every year and tried to kill him. He hasn't succeeded yet."

Blaise says, "Anyways, You-Know-Who's father gave his mother Amortentia, the strongest love potion in the world. And when you have a kid as a result of a love potion, that kid can't feel love. It's probably one of the reasons he became a sociopath too. He's the most powerful wizard."

Liz was surprised by this, "That old wizard, Dumbledore, he said this is the safest place to live. And you're telling me a powerful sociopathic wizard keeps finding his way in here to kill a kid?"

"Dumbledore isn't always right," Draco murmurs.

Blaise's gaze moves just past Liz, "Holy shit, speak of the devil. Guess who just walked in."

"What?" Liz turns to look but Draco grabs her arm, "Don't look at him," he says. Liz keeps her head forward.

"Guys, he's coming over here," Blaise whispers. Two seconds later, Mattheo sits between Liz and Pansy. "Didn't think you would come," Mattheo says to Liz. She ignores him by hitting the blunt, but Mattheo takes it from her fingers in the middle of her hit.

"Hey, mate, don't fuck up the smoke circle," Blaise says, annoyed. "Oh, well they pass to the right in America. Don't they, Elizabeth?" Mattheo asks.

"Uh, yeah, in some places," Liz responds. "Where in America are you from?" He asks. Pansy gets the blunt from him and hits it, trying to avoid the awkward situation.

"Nevada."

"Interesting. So, how did you end up here, Elizabeth?"

"Just call me Liz, the only people who use my full name are social workers and police officers."

"Then, Liz, how did you end up here?"  Pansy is still smoking the blunt, Draco is looking at the floor, Blaise is staring at Mattheo, who is staring intently at Liz. Liz is avoiding eye contact as much as she can.

"Professor McGonagall was sent by the Ministry to collect me. Apparently, they're supposed to be made aware if you send a magical baby across the country, but they had no idea I was there."

Pansy suddenly burst into laughter. "What are you laughing at?" Blaise giggles, "How much did you smoke?"

"That last hit," she laughs, "that was probably too much."

Pansy is laughing uncontrollably and lays on the floor. Blaise is laughing at her.

"Pansy," Liz laughs, "How did you get so high this fast?" She keeps laughing.

"Okay," Liz goes over to Pansy and kneels down next to her. "Pansy, babe, I think we should go back to your dorm."

"No! I want to stay!" Pansy protests. "Okay, but think about your bed. Is it comfy?"

Pansy goes silent for a solid ten seconds before laughing a little and saying, "Yeah, it's really comfy."

"Doesn't it sound great to go lay down?" Liz asks, trying to trick her into wanting to leave.

"Yeah, I want to lay down," Pansy agrees.

"Alright, let's go then, I'll take you to your bed," Liz says as she starts to help Pansy get up. She almost needs to hold her while they walk.

"I'll be right back," Liz says to the boys and they start to leave the party. As soon as they are out of earshot, Blaise asks, "What do you think you're doing, Riddle?"

"Me? I'm just spending some time with my sister," he grins.

"Excuse me? Are you saying Liz is your sister? I don't believe that for a second." Draco asks.

"Yes, Malfoy. I haven't seen her since she was two so I'm trying to catch up with her. Don't you see the resemblance?"

"Woah, hey, check McLaggen," Blaise interrupts, nodding towards the exit where Cormac McLaggen was following Liz and Pansy out of the party.

Draco and Blaise stand, followed by Mattheo, saying, "Wait a second so he doesn't know we're following him."

"Are you serious? That's bullshit we're going," Draco says firmly.

"If Elizabeth is there, they'll be fine. She's my sister, she doesn't need help from anyone."

"I don't care if that's true or not, I'm following McLaggen," Blaise says. "Me too," Draco agrees.

"Fine, let's go. You'll see, though," Mattheo says and they leave to follow Cormac.

They catch up to Cormac, who's standing around the corner from Liz and Pansy's dorm. They wait behind the wall, after a minute or so the door opens. Liz walks out and shuts and locks the door, she turns and makes it two steps before Cormac pushes her against the wall.

Blaise and Draco step forward to help, but Mattheo pulls them back. "Watch," he tells them.

Without any hesitation, Liz knees McLaggen between his legs. He leans forward, and she grabs the back of his head and slams it into the stone wall. He falls to the floor, and Liz pushes him down with her foot on his chest. "Don't you dare think about touching me ever again," she snarls. She kicks his head, knocking him out cold.

Blaise and Draco are shocked, almost ready to believe she was Mattheo's sister, just from what they witnessed her do. Mattheo pulls on their arms to tell them they should go before Liz sees them. They hurry back to the party and sit down where they were before, just in time. Liz sits down and laughs, "Pansy fell asleep as soon as her head hit the pillow."

The group sits in awkward silence, now that they all know Liz is Mattheo's sister, except for Liz herself.

Mattheo is the first to fill the silence, "So, do you have any siblings?"

"Nope. It was just me and my parents," Liz answers. "Your parents?" Mattheo questions.

"Yeah."

"So what's your blood status?"

Liz answers just like before, "Well, I was adopted when I was two so I don't know."

He asks, "Do you know your biological parents?" Draco and Blaise glare at him.

"I don't. I've tried to contact them but no matter who I talked to, no one could find them. It's like they don't even exist. But knowing my biological parents never really mattered to me. My adoptive parents were lovely."

"Were?" Blaise asks.

"I accidentally did magic this one time, and my parents, who are very religious, said I was a satanic witch and practically disowned me. They went as far as they could without getting the court involved. They completely stopped talking to me, kicked me out of the house. I stayed with my friends most of the time if I could, but sometimes I'd end up on the street for a few weeks until I could find somewhere else to stay," Liz tells casually.

"I'm sorry," Blaise says, "That's terrible."

"I guess. I never had much time to actually process it, I was always high. But it all worked out! I'm here now, I don't need to worry about finding a place to stay or how I'm going to get food. I have everything I need," she smiles.

"Liz, come here," Mattheo says, "Just come next to me and look in the mirror."

Liz hesitantly moves over by Mattheo and looks at the mirror hanging on the wall a few feet away from them. "Don't we look really similar?" He asks.

Draco and Blaise are about to tear Mattheo's throat out. They know what he's up to, and they don't like it.

"Uhm, sorta," Liz replies, confused.

"Look closer," he says.

"Huh, we do look kind of similar. That's strange," she laughs and jokes, "Am I your long-lost twin or something?"

"That would be something," he grins.

Liz moves back to her spot, and Mattheo continues, "I don't think that'd be possible, though. My father is Lord Voldemort."

Blaise and Draco looked at each other, with a look of "Oh shit" on their face.

Liz replies, "That actually isn't surprising, considering you're a psychopath."

"That doesn't make you scared?" Mattheo questions. Liz shakes her head, "No. You don't scare me at all."

"Do you have your wand on you?" He asks. The tension between the three boys is thick. They could all murder each other any second now.

"Uhm, I don't, I didn't think I'd need it," Liz answers.

Draco looks at her in disbelief, "You don't have it?" He whispers urgently.

Not even a second passes before Mattheo has his wand pointed at Liz. In even less time, Draco and Blaise have their wands raised at Mattheo.

He rolls his eyes, "I wasn't going to do anything. Let this be your first lesson here, you need your wand with you at all times. You never know when someone might try something."

He holds eye contact with Liz for another moment and lowers his wand, followed by Blaise and Draco. "Right, then, I'm off," he states as he gets up and leaves. The three watch him walk down the stairs.

Liz turns back around to Blaise and Draco, "What the fuck was that about? I get he's a psychopath but he was asking really weird questions."

"He tends to do that," Blaise says.

"Jesus, that was just... strange. I'm not even feeling the weed or drinks anymore. I'm gonna go get shots, who wants one?"

Draco and Blaise both raise their hands simultaneously. Liz smiles and goes to get the drinks.

When she returns and hands them their shots, they look concerned. "Where did you get this?" Draco asks. "Over there," she says pointing across the room, to no one and nothing in particular.

"This stuff will kill you, Liz," Blaise adds.

"Like, literally or metaphorically?" She asks before taking the shot. Blaise laughs, still impressed.

"So are you guys gonna take those or...?" They both shake their heads and give the shots back to her. She drinks them one right after the other, and Blaise lights a newly rolled blunt. He hits it then hands it to Lizzy.

After she blows out the smoke, Blaise asks her how she hasn't passed out yet.

"A high tolerance. Smoking, drinking, and drugs every day for months. Nothing to be proud of, but I'm really good at this party thing," she pauses, "I actually just thought of something, I'll be right back."

Liz leaves and goes back to her dorm, searching for a specific bottle of pills. Cormac was gone, and she was relieved when the door was still locked. She's sure to be quiet as to not wake Pansy, even though she was out cold. An earthquake couldn't even wake her up.

She finds the bottle she was looking for, grabs her wand, and heads back to the party, now almost forgetting the way.

Finding her way back to Blaise and Draco, she shows them the pills and explains:

"These are my moms. We were in a car crash a while back, they prescribed me shitty opioids because my injuries were only severe enough for shitty opioids. Mom, on the other hand, was so close to death that the doctors gave her these. They're an extreme pain killer and muscle relaxer and have side effects like hallucinations and delusions. They fuck with your brain so much you don't realize you're almost dead. You don't even remember what happened."

The two boys stare at her, listening to every word like they were being given instructions on how to save the world.

"They boost your serotonin levels more than any other drug, you will be the happiest you have ever been," she finishes, taking three pills out of the bottle. Liz only took them on special occasions; parties like this and when the week has been really shitty. She gives the pills to Blaise and Draco, and they all take them with firewhiskey.

"You know," Liz says, "I wonder how these would affect Mattheo Riddle. They boost your serotonin levels like crazy, but he barely has any serotonin in his brain, if not none."

"That'd actually be really interesting," Blaise agrees.

"Ok here's the plan," Liz starts, jumping into the idea, "Mattheo already has some interest in me, for whatever reason, but it will be easy to start a conversation with him. He also already smokes and drinks, so that brings the probability of him being open to popping pills to at least 78%. I also know how to manipulate a psychopath if I need to, I know how their brains work."

"Let's. Fucking. Do. It.," Blaise says eagerly. They couldn't do it right now, since Mattheo already left. But whenever the opportunity presented itself, Liz would take advantage of it.

They continue just chatting and smoking, starting to feel the effects of the pills they took.

"Why are giraffes' necks so long?" Liz asked, laying on her back and looking up at the ceiling.

Draco and Blaise started laughing, a lot.

"Look at you guys! You're already laughing! I love how quickly this shit kicks in," Liz says.

The two of them laugh at each other and Liz comments, "I love the little bromance thing you have going on, it's very entertaining." She sits up and looks at them, "Unless it's a romance!"

Draco quickly denies this, "We're not gay."

"Speak for yourself mate, I swing both ways," Blaise informs. "Really?" Liz says with a shocked face, "Me too! You haven't fully experienced life if you haven't had sex with the same gender at least once."

"Exactly!" Blaise says.

"Eh... I can't see myself being that into it," Draco adds.

"Okay okay, but what about this," Liz proposes, "If it was life or death and you had to have sex with each other, would you?"

"Blaise is the only guy I'd be gay for," Draco says with a smile as he jokingly puts his hand on Blaise's thigh. "But, why would we ever be in that situation?" He asks.

"Well maybe if you got kidnapped by some pervert who likes watching guys have sex and he locked you in a cage and told you you had to have sex or he'd kill you," Liz says.

Blaise laughs, "What the fuck?"

Liz then changes the topic to asking if Blaise and Draco weren't in a relationship with each other, were they in any other relationships? Blaise says he has two regular hookups, one lady and one gentleman. He says they're always down to fuck whenever he asks and he's always down to fuck whenever they ask.

Liz responds with, "Oh, so fuckbuddies?" And Blaise agrees.

She then asks Draco, "And what about you? Any relationships or fuckbuddies?"

Draco says, "I hook up with some girls every now and then, but never the same one unless they were really good."

Liz asks if they need to worry about STDs or if they have magic for that. They tell her STDs are never an issue, the only worry is with pregnancy. Liz talks about how in the Muggle world, they have plan B and birth control and explains how it works. She asks if they have something like that but magical. Draco responds by telling her about The Vial. It works 100% of the time but your body will build a tolerance to it if you use it too often in a short span of time.

Draco says, "Usually after the 3rd time in under a month, it'll stop working. But if you just go without it for 2-3 weeks your tolerance goes back down and it will work perfectly again."

Liz jokes, "I feel like I should be writing this down."

Blaise responds, "You don't need to, everyone at Hogwarts knows this information because any babies here would be immensely unfortunate for everyone."

Draco adds that it's not a written rule but more common sense for the guy to get the girl The Vial the day after, and always to give it to her discreetly. Liz says that in America you're lucky if the guy buys plan B for you and that they usually won't ever talk to you again.

"So what about you? Have you found anyone interesting yet?" Draco asks.

Liz shrugs, "I don't usually bother with relationships, but, that's a whole different conversation for another time."

"Any fuckbuddies?" Blaise asks with a smile.

"No, I don't bother with looking for hookups or a fuckbuddy either. Though, sometimes I'll be going about my day and end up hooking up with someone."

"Understandable," Blaise responds, "But is there anyone you would like to have sex with yet? Go ahead and judge a book by its cover."

"Uhm," Liz thinks, "There have been a few girls and guys that I've seen that seem like they'd be good in bed, but it's way too early to ask people to hook up. I mean, I just got here, first impressions and all of that."

A girl with brown hair and brown eyes with porcelain pale skin approached the group.

"Draco," she said with confidence, "We're playing spin the bottle over there, would you like to join?"

"Oh, sure. Blaise?" Draco asked if he wanted to go as well.

"Yeah, Blaise you're welcome to come too," Astoria says as if Draco was asking her permission.

The two stand up, "You coming Liz?" Blaise asks. Astoria eyes Liz like she was planning on the three of them ignoring her completely.

"Sure, why not?" Liz gets up from her spot and waits for Astoria to say something to her.

"And who are you?"

"Liz," she says, holding out her hand.

"Astoria," she responds, not shaking Liz's hand, "Let's go then," she says looking back to Draco.

As she walks towards the group playing spin the bottle, Draco says to Liz, "Don't worry, she's a bitch to everyone."

Everyone except for Draco, apparently. They make their way over and sit down with everyone. Astoria decides she will be going first. When she spins the bottle, Liz notices how obvious it was that she wanted it to land on Draco. Though it lands on some other Slytherin, and it was again obvious how annoyed and disappointed Astoria was.

She gives the Slytherin a quick peck on the lips and sits back.

Blaise goes next, the bottle lands on a guy and they make out intensely.

Draco says, "Alright if you guys want to fuck go to a dorm." Blaise says to the guy, "After this?" and the guy nods. Liz is laughing and then Blaise tells her it's her turn.

She spins, and it lands on Draco.

Liz sees how furious Astoria is. At least they know she's not a sociopath.

Wanting to make Astoria jealous after she was a bitch to Liz, she really goes for it with Draco. And slightly to her surprise, Draco does the same. She didn't know if that was because he wanted to make Astoria jealous as well or if he was actually into it.

Astoria is absolutely fuming, and Liz smiles to herself. Partly because she thought it was funny how angry Astoria was getting, but also because she knows she has a small crush on Draco. Look at him, he's hot! Who wouldn't want to hit that?

As people keep spinning, the bottle lands on Blaise the majority of the time, which Liz finds hilarious. After the seventh guy or girl to make out with him, Liz jokes that he should get checked for mouth herpes.

"Don't need to, magic, remember?" He grins.

Liz's gaze is diverted to the entrance of the party when Mattheo walks in. She leans closer to Draco and whispers, "Riddle just showed up, now's my chance."

She gets up and starts to walk away but Draco stops her for a second and whispers back, "Be careful, he's a psychopath remember."

Liz nods and walks up to Mattheo, "Look who came back."

"I was bored," he replies.

"So what was up earlier, with all of those weird questions? What's your deal?"

He doesn't answer, and Liz continues, "Because if you're into me-"

Mattheo cuts her off and very strongly disagrees, "Don't take it personally, it's just... no."

"I don't actually care because I'm not interested in you either. I mean you're good-looking and all but I get a weird feeling of 'don't even think about it' with you."

Mattheo grins, "You know what? I feel the exact same way."

"You never answered me about why you were being so strange. You know, you can make it up to me by doing some drugs with me," she says, knowing she sounds dumb, like a cop undercover.

"What's wrong? Malfoy and Zabini ditch you or something?" He asks.

"They said they don't want to," Liz lies.

"So you're asking me to give you drugs," Mattheo sighs.

"No no, I have drugs, I just want you to do them with me."

He scans the room, "Fine, but, not here, let's go somewhere else."

"Where?" she asks.

"The astronomy tower."

Liz asks what that is and Mattheo explains. She agrees and they leave the party.

Blaise notices them leaving and nudges Draco. They watch the two of them walk out, feeling both worried and excited. They know he could tell her that she's his sister and that he could kill her or hurt her. They both don't want her to know because they believe it would ruin her life. After she finds out, she's not going to be the foreign exchange student from America, she's going to be Voldemort's daughter. She wouldn't just find out that Mattheo is her brother, but she would also find out about Tom Riddle.

Tom and Mattheo Riddle. The Riddle Twins. Whenever they showed up anywhere together, you knew something bad was about to happen.

"It'll be fine," Blaise tries to convince Draco and himself, "If he does anything we'll kill him."

Mattheo and Liz get to the astronomy tower and she hands him a pill, they both take one. They sit on the floor and Liz starts a conversation about Voldemort and Mattheo being the son of Voldemort. She asks how it felt to be his son.

He responds, "It doesn't feel like anything."

"Oh right, psychopath, I forgot."

Mattheo quickly becomes high, smiling more and even laughing. Technically, Liz now knows how the drugs affect him. They seem to work the same on him as they do on anyone else. She got what she came for, she could go back to the party now.

But she didn't want to. She was curious as to what Mattheo would say now that they were alone. This was her problem, her curiosity always got the best of her. It's led to both amazing and terrifying situations.

"I know we're off our shit already, but should we smoke a blunt anyway?" He asks with a mischievous smile.

"I absolutely think we should," Liz laughs.

Mattheo rolls a perfect blunt in record time. Well, not beating her time but it was close.

Liz sits thinking while Mattheo smokes, and says, "Voldemort can't feel love, so he didn't have you because of a passionate night with some lady."

"Yes, great observation," he says sarcastically as he hands Liz the blunt.

She takes it from him and takes a hit, "No I'm just wondering, did he just want to have an heir?"

"That's right," Mattheo says, "But I'm not the heir of Slytherin, that would be my brother, Tom."

"You're mom had twins?" Liz asks, passing him the weed.

"Triplets, actually. They sent our sister across the sea to America."

"Why? Was it a sexist thing?"

Mattheo shakes his head, "I don't think so, she lived with us for two years before they sent her away." He takes a long hit from the blunt before continuing, "Ever since my first year at Hogwarts, I've been waiting for her to arrive. I always wonder if she's a sociopath like my father and Tom, or a psychopath like me, or maybe she's normal like my mom. I know this isn't how it works, but if Tom got sociopath genes from my father, and I'm a psychopath because of my mother, maybe my sister is normal. It shouldn't matter, it's not like she's here anyway."

Liz is surprised that he was opening up so much. She listens closely, actually feeling sorry for him.

"I just, I don't know what would be better for her, to be able to feel or not. If she's had a good life, I hope she can feel. But if not, I know it's awful, but I hope she's like me or my brother. I don't want to give myself false hope, you know? If she's normal and has had a good life, it would be the best outcome. But my family is unlucky."

He takes another hit and hands the blunt to Liz. She thinks about how she would feel in his situation. She's about to say something to try and comfort him, but he starts talking again.

"I don't want her to show up here and be broken. I don't want that. I'd feel guilty."

Liz decides to say something, "It'll work out. When she gets here, you'll finally be together. And her arriving would mean she's made it this far."

Mattheo smokes the blunt and stares at the floor, "What do you mean?"

"Look, if she can feel emotions, she's lived to this point being able to be happy. Her life probably isn't perfect, I mean whose is? But it can't have been all bad if she's here. Whether or not she can feel, when she shows up, you'll know that she's survived this long. Besides, if she's your sister, she must be a strong person."

They sit in silence for a moment. Liz lays on her back and looks at the sky. The stars are so clear from the Astronomy Tower. Mattheo lays next to her, "You like looking at the stars?"

"Oh yeah, I like how they're always in the same place. You can always find the planets and constellations if you know where to start."

Mattheo adds, "They're always there, even when the night is cloudy or during the day when you can't see them. That's what I like about them. It's a constant."

They gaze into the sky, smoking and talking about the stars. By now, Liz has forgotten why she's here with him. It's not about seeing how he acts on the drugs anymore, she actually wanted to be here. She feels a little bad about the reason they're talking together, but she's glad it happened.

Liz starts, "I love this. How we can talk so easily and how, at least I, feel so comfortable with you. It's hard to find people like that, where friendship comes naturally. I've only had one friend like that before."

"I've never had anyone like that," Mattheo says.

"Someone like that is your person. And it feels like all your life you're waiting for them. They might not be your forever person, and that really sucks - that they might be temporary. But, then again, everything is temporary. It's just a matter of how long it lasts."

Mattheo hands her the weed. Just like Liz was making sure to listen carefully to him, he was listening to her.

She goes on, "Everyone in your life serves a purpose; big or small, good or bad. But your person is meant for you and you are meant for them."

"So, your friend, she's not your person anymore?" Mattheo asks.

"No," Liz says, "Emily and I were friends for two years. We were always together and we never fought. Sometimes we argued but it never lasted for more than five minutes. I could never be mad at her."

"What happened?"

"She died last year," Liz told him.

"I'm sorry."

"It's okay. Well, it's not good but it's okay now. It took me a while, but I accepted that while Em wasn't going to be my forever person, she was still my person for a long while. She wasn't meant to be with me forever and that's okay. She's resting now. She showed up when I needed her the most, and everything would be so much different without her."

Liz took a deep breath before saying, "She saved me, really. In a sense. She was exactly what I needed, and I was what she needed. But then it was back to waiting."

She looks over at Mattheo, "I think I'm done waiting, though. I think I found my new person."

"How do you know?" He asks, turning his head to look at her.

"Because it feels like everything is okay, it feels like exactly how it's supposed to."

Liz says one more thing before closing her eyes, just to rest for a second, "You're my person, Mattheo."

Mattheo knows she's fallen asleep instantly. He gently took the blunt from her hand and took one last hit before putting it out. He doesn't know why he said all of those things about his sister, talking about her like he's never known her when she was right here. He knows now that she isn't a psychopath or a sociopath. However, he also knows pieces of her life. And from what he's heard, it hasn't been what he hoped for. It's not surprising, and he knew he shouldn't have hoped for the best. But Liz was right when she said his sister must be strong. He could see it in her eyes, hear it in her voice.

Even though he is just as tired as she was, he stays awake a little longer. He rests his hand on hers, not being able to do so for 16 years. He wanted to tell her she was his sister so badly. He was finally able to be her brother, but he didn't know if and how to tell her.

Eventually, he fell asleep with his hand still resting on hers.

-

Do you see that? Over 8000 words man that's crazy. Anyways, a few things I'd like to note:

-Tom and Voldemort are not the same person in this universe. I know they are in the books but here they are father and son :)

-"The Vial" was originally created by babynaomi in Filthy (definitely read that if you haven't)

-The character Mattheo Riddle was originally created by yasmineamaro in Possessive (another great read) Thank you for creating his character I am so in love with this man lol

-Those two creators have full credit for creating the Vial and Mattheo Riddle, though I am changing them slightly to fit my story

-If you came for a Mattheo romance, I'm sorry but I refuse to write incest

-The idea for this just kinda fell out of my brain one night, the title and book cover aren't final

-If I decide to keep writing this, you cannot expect a regular publishing schedule. School and work keep me very busy (unfortunately) and I am not able to sit down and write often. I would love to be able to work on this every single day and get out chapter after chapter, but I can't do that

-Let me know what you think! Should I continue writing this? How did you like the first chapter? Any ideas of where I should take this story? And... smut or no smut?

That's all, thank you for reading this far!
