Chapter 2
December 15th, Saturday
Fire crackled under the pot-bellied stove. I took my book out of my face. Latin Literature. Nothing i didnt like.. it just wasn't enough to get me through these long winter days. The smell of Sugar cookies was coming straight through the kitchens. In the winter time near Christmas, Mother was always too busy making us any kind of sugary Christmas meal. Today, the desert was sugar cookies. I closed the book shut. If she was that distracted, maybe i could do something about this boredom. I'm sure nobody would notice. Not even Arwin. Maybe finally, I would be able to get out of his grasp. Always trying to take something from my room. The forest is more like our backyard. Connected. I stood right up, sticking to my bright idea. I looked straight back at the tall, stained windows. It was already snowing heavily. There wasn't anything in the world that could make me not go- even if the cold freezes me up.

Throwing on a kind-of thin coat, i decided i was ready. Mother would never let me out of the house looking like this. I scattered up to my room, throwing myself up to my window. It was cold and foggy. The lever of which you flick open, was almost frozen itself. After some trying, I was successful. The cold wind wasn't easy to get passed through. The ground wasn't far down- and I had done this before. Maybe not in the deep winter time, but it was enough. I jumped down, practically sinking in the thick snow. I looked around. The evergreens didn't seem to bothered by the snowy weather as the other plants did.
