The Mudblood Slytherin (An Autobiography by Gale Oika)

written by Gale Oika

Oh Draco, if only you knew who I was... It's not like I'm a criminal or something. I'm a good student, good at quiditch and sports, and, while I don't like to admit it, pretty. No matter how many times I tell people I'm a Moon, and that I was only adopted by some muggles, I know that as soon as my talkative little sister enrolls, I'm doomed. Then, I will loose my best friend, my crush, and the person who I trust the most, Draco Malfoy.

Chapter Two: The Letters

Gale was eleven, she had been since March.  Now, it was July and she was excited and in a firm misery about going to secondary school.  She could either escape the bullying, or, like she had heard from many people, it would only get worse.  Another downside was that she was going to be enrolled in public school.  She didn't know what the last school was considered to be, but it provided a lot of sports programs, and specialized in fighting techniques.

Her sister went to this school too, and was top of her grade, and if a fifth grader could be popular, she definately was.  All of the teachers favored her, she refused to get dirty under any circumstances, and her curly hair bounced off her perfect little shoulders with every perfect step.  They had nothing against eachother, for the most part.  Gale always held a looming grudge against her sister, because thier father actually loved her, but she knew that if Julia wasn't around thier father wouldn't love them much more.

This summer was also important because in September, Kara Oika would be coming home for the first time in nine years.  Mr. Oika was even more persnickity than usuall about the house being spotless.  In fact, Mr. Oika was sweeping the kitchen when he saw a very strange sight, a greyish barn owl sitting on the mailbox in broad daylight.  Mr Oika rushed out the door in his fluffy slippers right away, but the owl was gone.  However, the mailbox was open, and only contained one letter.

It was a nicely yellowed, and slightly heavy envelope with a red seal with an "H" on it.  As he turned it over, he noticed that it was not addressed to him, nor sent by one of Julia's friends, and it looked like it was sent by some stalker, because it was adressed

He decided to open it without telling Gale, who was still soundly asleap in her bed.  The page was headed by a seal with four animals, and at the bottom had the words "draco dormiens nunquam titllandus," obviously some kind of motto.  Under all of this was written, in scarlet ink, "Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry."   He scoffed and threw the letter in the bin, it was obviously from one of the kids that was bullying her.  He was angred with her, but he was deeply offended that someone would think to his daughter a witch, such an insult!  Not to mention that whoever decided to send this in the mail was also saying that she should go to hog's wart.  Imagine telling an eleven year old girl that she should go and be schooled in a hog's wart.

He decided not to tell her about her letter.

The next day, at the same time, he saw the same dumb owl sitting on his mailbox again.  In a bad mood, he stormed out to shoo it away.  Again, he found the mailbox open and filled with three more of the same letter, and he didn't even look at them before throwing them away. Three letters turned into four, doubling as the days went on.  They stopped ariving in the mail, and started slipping under the door mat, or floating down the chimney.  Four a day turned into eight, and eight turned into sixteen.  More and more owls, including the original barn one, were trespassing with each and every day.  Gale noticed too.  She didn't know the letters were for her, but she did know that her father bolted the mailbox shut, left the fireplace on, in the summer, day and night, and seemed to be obsessed with something.

One morning, she woke up earlier than her father and sister to a knock on the door.  A lean, tall woman wearing the most peculiar clothes she had ever seen waited outside.  "Ms. Oika" she said in a firm voice, "I am professor McGonagall, deputy headmistriss of Hogwarts.  Have you gotten your letters?"

What letters?  Gale had no idea what she was talking about.  This insane woman, with a pointy hat and some type of robe needed to be taken back to the hospital or wherever she came from.  Gale was highly tempted to slam the heavy oak door in her face.

Gale, after a moment of silence, and with a tone of irritation responded "no."  It was the fact, she had recieved no letter whatsoever.  "May I come in?"  the Mcgonagall woman asked in a softer tone.  Gale nodded, she wanted to see what the woman with slicked back black hair wanted from her.  Professor Mcgonnagal pulled out a letter from her sleeve. Gale had a strange feeling that she had seen the letter before, perhaps in a dream.

She tore the letter open, and read it outloud.

"I don't believe you," the words spilled out of Gale's mouth.

"I know you don't," the professor replied,  "has anything magical ever happened to you that happened when you were scared or angry, or maybe just needed to defend yourself?"  Of course it had, it was because of this that she was still alive, and that her mother was in prison.  It was the reason people couldn't beat her up before she knew how to fight.  She looked at the floor.  "Still don't believe?" the professor almost laughed, "You and a student I had a while ago are very similar, I had to come all the way out here too, and she wouldn't believe it until I did this."  The woman morphed, there was no other way to describe it.  Within a few seconds, Professor Mcgonnagal turned into a striped, grey cat.  She turned back into a person.

Gale was so confused, she had no idea how any of it happened.  She knew that Mcgonnagal had turned into a cat, but maybe she was hallucinating.  Maybe she was still asleap.

"Ms. Gale, I am pleased to inform you that you are a witch."
