Chapter 5
I arrived at the dilapidated house in an instant. The blue paint was peeling from the exterior walls, and the concrete stairs were cracked and uneven. I walked up the stairs, and slowly turned the cold, dusty door knob. The door creaked open. Inside, ripped furniture were scrambled upon the stained carpet, and cobwebs rested in the corners of the room. The air was stuffy making it hard breathe. The furniture was hard and firm; worn from many years. it was cold outside, but unusually fans were blowing around the house. The dim lights were blowing around the house. The dim lights were making a faint buzzing noise, and I scarcely heard screeching up above me. It wasn’t fit for a king, but it would have to do.
I put my stuff down, and went to the kitchen to see if there was any food. There was; full fridge, packed pantry, and even food on the counter. Someone was definitely living here, but kt didn’t look very livable. I knew that if I wanted to stay here, I wouldn't be able to leave a trace of myself or belongings/ They were probably going to start a search warrant over me too.
I walked up the stairs of the house, looking for a room to sleep in. Outside, the rain poured down on the concrete and thunder rumbled. I skimmed the halls, until i found a room that looked like a guest room. I snuggled up in the sheets, and fell asleep after a long day.
In the morning, the sun awoke my because there weren’t any blinds. I got up out of the bed, and went downstairs to get breakfast. Downstairs, there was no evidence of anyone being there. While I was in the kitchen, there was a bang. It was the front door. Shit. I cautiously stepped towards the opening of the kitchen, to see who it was. It was a man holding a gun, and had blood all over his body. My heart started pounding against my chest. I had to get out! Unfortunately there was no back door, so I would have to climb out a window upstairs, or go out the front door. Thankfully, the man started walking upstairs, and I let out a sigh of relief. I waited until he was all the way upstairs, and quietly but quickly scurried to the front door. I heard the shower turn on upstairs, and realized that I had forgotten my backpack with all of my belongings. Damn, I whispered to myself. I decided that I couldn’t risk it. I slowly opened the front door, but accidentally rang the doorbell. The shower suddenly turned off, and I heard the man upstairs getting closer. What a bitch. I sprinted out the door, and got as far away as I could.
