Chapter 2

On the way to the hospital, I ran over four trashcans, two mailboxes, and a squirrel. I also ran almost all the red lights that I encountered, and was speeding most of the time, but I made it to  the hospital in about fifteen minutes. I sloppily parked the car, with the tires over the yellow lines and sprinted into the hospital to tell the nurses what had happened. They grabbed a stretcher, and ran to my (my mom's) car.

All that was left to do was wait. I was an only child, and my mom was the closest I had to a sister. She was perfectly healthy before she got sick this last week, so she couldn’t fricking die now!  I paced around the dimly lit waiting room, unable to keep still. I thought about calling my dad, but he would find out sooner or later. I tried assuring myself that everything was going to be okay, but I just couldn’t.

All of a sudden, a doctor walked into the room, motioning me to come closer. A tear fell from my eye. My mom was dead, but it couldn’t be true. It had only been five minutes and the doctors had done everything they could? I walked towards him anyway, and a concerned look formed on his face.

“I am so sorry,” the doctor apologized, “but your mother is,”

I didn’t even  let him finish speaking. He didn’t even look a little sympathetic! “Dammit! How is my mother dead if you have done everything you could?! My mom has only been at this fucking hospital for five minutes! How is it fricking possible for my mom to be dead?” I screamed, and tears streamed down my face. I walked away, both angry at the doctor and sad. My mother was dead. I didn’t have a mother anymore.

In an instant, my phone beeped. It was my dad, and he was probably home. Even though I had just received horrible news, I answered anyways, holding back tears.

“Where are you?” My dad asked, confusion in his voice.

“I am at the hospital; in the waiting room,” I replied softly, starting to cry.

“Wait what?” my dad stammered, “Where is your mother?”

“She is dead.”
