Chapter 2

Going through the school, we need to consciously let our magic flow less and less, because it is becoming innate - just like breathing.

Blood status doesn’t matter. This is a relief to me because I am a muggle-born.

Spell-casting components are ‘a breakdown of what is needed to perform a spell’.

The spell-casting components are incantation (this includes pronunciation, or in my spell charts ‘say it’), wand movement, willpower and concentration. In effect, all the little bits in my spell chart.

The incantation part is the words used in the spell. They have to be pronounced properly, or the spell will go wrong. A good mantra for this is ‘Never forget Wizard Baruffio, who said ‘s’ instead of ‘f’ and ended up with a buffalo on his chest.’.

Wand movement is the shapes you make in the air to make the spell happen.

Will-power is a difficult component to master, but it basically just means the ‘magical strength and focus’ used to perform the spell.

Concentration is ‘centering your mind’ so that the spell will work.

Spell: The Hover Charm

Spelling: Levioso

Say it: Lev-ee-O-so

Concentration: None

Will-power: Moderate; determines how heavy an object you are lifting can be

Movement: Inward spiral then upward flick

For the Hover charm, you have to be physically touching the object you are trying to lift in some way, which is quite irritating.

Spell: The Rocket Charm

Spelling: Alarte Ascendare

Say it: Al-ar-tay A-SEN-day-ray

Concentration: None

Willpower: High; determines how high the object will go before falling

Movement: Quick swish

This charm does not require you to be making physical contact, but it does only allow you to move the object up, and then for the object just to fall again. Therefore, there is not much use to this charm.

Spell: The Floating Charm

Spelling: Fluito

Say it: Floo-EE-toe

Concentration: Moderate; should be maintained on target object

Willpower: High to very high; depends on weight and distance of target

Movement: Jab then upward flick

The Floating charm allows for more controlled movements than the Rocket charm. However, it only allows the object to go so many feet into the air. It also only allows for vertical movement, not horizontal.

Spell: The Levitation Charm

Spelling: Wingardium Leviosa

Say it: win-GAR-dee-um levi-O-sa

Concentration: Moderate; on the thing you want to levitate

Willpower: Low; visualize your energy and focus it on the object

Movement: Swish and Flick

The levitation spell should NEVER be used on a human because it is reckless and can cause injury.

When doing the levitation spell, time the swish so that you start it on the Wingardium and end it so that you start the flick upwards when you say Leviosa.
