Professor Mathilda Stevens

Chapter 15

Personal Particulars

Name: Mathilda Stevens

House: Ravenclaw

Age: 38

Course: Ancient Runes

Place of Birth: South-Eastern Scotland

Family Background

Parents:Bianca (nee Norwich) and Henry Stevens

Parents Background: Bianca Norwich is a pure-blood witch, who studied Medieval History at Muggle university, where she met fellow historian Henry Stevens. They are both scholars, with a keen interest in not just history but also the world as a whole. Bianca's family was never interested in issues of blood status, and were very happy to see her marry Henry, who is one of the few Muggles who knew what he was getting into when he married a witch, yet hasn't shown any jealousy for the magical powers of his wife and children. He works as an independent scholar and publishes regularly in academic journals, sometimes together with his wife, who has a similar position in the academic wizarding community.

Relationship with Parents: As the first-born, her parents spoiled her a bit, but also did their best to teach her and give her the best possible start in life. She get along well with both of them, although her dad and her sometimes get into fights, because they are much too similar in their stubbornness.

Sibling(s): 3 Siblings. One sister, Katherine (31), and two brothers, Charlie (36) and Ed (33).

Relationship with Sibling(s): Charlie and her got along well as children, as they were close enough in age to play together. They lived in a neighbourhood with no other children, so their siblings were the only company she had. As she grew older, she discovered books, so eventually stopped spending so much time with her siblings, but they do get along well, and she has enjoyed watching them start their own families in recent years.

Family Wealth: Average

Family Struggles: They moved around a lot during her childhood, as academic jobs often involve moving to new institutions. Other than that, she had a pretty normal childhood.

Planned child: She was a planned child, something that can't be said for Charlie, who came along a year earlier than intended. Ed and Katherine were similar, with Ed expected and Katherine rather a big surprise for her mum and dad.

Educational Background

Place of Study: Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry (1987-1994)

Likes: She likes reading and climbing trees

Dislikes: She hates vegetables and needles (very glad that Healing usually doesn't involve having blood taken)

Childhood Best Friend: Due to moving around a lot, she never really had the chance to make best friends in childhood and mostly spent my time reading, or running around with her brother Charlie.

Worst Prank: Her brother and her once offered a tin of ravioli to a group of boyscout, where we had replaced the meat with tadpoles.

Behaviour in School: She had learned to read fairly quickly, and from age 7 rarely lifted my nose from the books. Used to have a favourite reading spot in their tree house. She was a bookworm and a loner. She didn't really need company, although she did enjoy sports, even if she wasn't very good at them.

Relationships

Marital Status: Single

Career

Job before becoming a Professor in Hogwarts: Expert on Ancient Runes in various research project and magiarchaeological expeditions.

How he/she became a Professor: She had enquired about accessing some of the rare manuscripts held at Hogwarts for a research project, when she was alerted to the fact that the position of Ancient Runes professor was vacant, and the headmaster suggested to her that she should apply.

Why this course: She has spent the last 15 years travelling the world studying Ancient Runes, and now she want to share her knowledge with the next generation of young scholars.
