The Eliminations of Section E
Chapter 3
“Come on! Get out!” The Head Official yelled as people were crying, pale, scared, and some were shocked. The Head then fired his weapon 3 more times in the air, “Silence!” he warned as people hurried out. My face was unreadable, I didn’t know how to react as I speed walked outside with Julia on my right and my brother on my left still clutching his hand. He looked just as scared as everyone else, and I wish I could comfort him. How would I? When I was just as scared and afraid as him. Julia gave me a worried look and stepped closer to me holding my right arm shaking. She was taller than me by a good inch or 2. I can feel her heartbeat, it was fast, and wanted to break out from her body and run. I have never seen Julia like this before she was normally the brave one.
The Officials surrounded the group of Section E kids all shaking with fear. Oh, what I would do to be back in the education building, not here. I would rather be bombarded with screens and teachers talking through them. All the teachers on the screen teaching were dead, the videos were taken years ago before the wars. It was disturbing to think about sometimes, but no one wants to remake them, why would they? Sometimes we would get teachers, talk about the wars in person, but that was rare. I see Jackson in front of us, he was so tall he stood out right away for me. How handsome he looked, his charcoaled skin glistening, and his piercing brown eyes wavering. Beside him is his friends, I see all of them trembling with fear, I can’t help but feel myself laugh in my head even with what’s going on. They acted all fearless and tough in classes now they are everything but that.
“Now.” said the head Official then cleared his throat and fixed his tie, slicking back his greasy hair. Everyone froze hearing his voice looking at him. “If your commutator vibrates, an Official will escort you onto the jet, no questions, or talking, the rest will stay put,” he said then stared at us as if waiting for something. Then I feel the vibration and others also as well for they jumped as so did I. It was an aggressive vibration, almost as if something bit my arm. Julia did the same she nearly tore my arm off which she was still holding. I look down at my brother he too had felt it. Soon Officials came towards us and less than half of the hundreds of kids were broadening the jet. I saw Jackson and his crew all go in as well. It was as if we were being squeezed like grapes into it. Jackson looked at me and then away looking at the kids that were left behind they looked younger than 13. Matter of fact my brother looked like the youngest to be on the jet with me. I followed Jackson’s eyes, he was looking at the boy that looked just like him, it had to be his brother. The jets doors closed and the windows were then tinted so we couldn’t see anything from the outside. A loud noise was heard muffled from the area right outside the jet and cries could be heard, weapons firing off. Then silence, and the kids in the jet, were the only remaining kids from Section E.
Our society has gotten like that now, killing without reason happens. Only Officials have the power, to keep our world going the right way, that’s what they say. You have to get numb to it or you won’t survive, but nothing like mass killing has happened within a section like what just happened. I feel myself tear up, how can I not? I let a tear slid down my cheek, and then quickly go to wipe it away. Julia had already wiped it for me, looking at me with a weird smile knowing me better than myself. For I hate being seen as valuable. My brother was stone, he didn’t let any emotion show, but I can tell he was about to break any moment. He was too young for all this to happen, I wanted to grow wings and fly away with him, to shield him from this, but I can’t. I want to say something to him, so words spill out of my mouth “I...It will be fine, Ben.” He just looks up at me and engulfs me in a tight hug and I can hear him softly crying, his head buried into my chest. I hold him back just as tight, never wanting him to leave my side. Julia was still by me looking around like she was lost and confused at everyone. Something was changing, and we knew nothing about it. We could be on our way to our deaths without even realizing it. That was how tense it was in that jet. The jet starts up and we are off the ground, heading to where? We had no clue.
