Chapter 2
Eroda has always been a quiet place- But not on Holiday months. Christmas and Hallween are the biggest dates in town, so everyone was committed to make their houses and shops pretty with fake spider-webs and witches. The town boomers at this time of year. This Sunday morning is drizzling with light rain- there should be a downpour soon. I encouraged mother to let me go alone without her or Mystia. I told her I would be able to go get groceries for her, and that I would wear something 'appropriate' for the weather. That consisted of black shorts, black stockings, a white cuffed shirt underneath a warm brown sweater, and black platformed heels. My mother helped me with my hair- putting it up in French braids. To match, i dug through my wardrobe to find a pretty black mini-purse. I didn't exactly need much to take with me, just my phone and money.
The streets were wet with rain water, and the street lights lit up the building with its yellow lights. I was hoping to get a few unneeded items. There was a place that mother wanted me to mainly go. Nabel's Pickles. The Lady at the front was old, since the small building went through generations of her family. I walked across the puddles over the grey concrete slabs, making my way into the pickle store. It was decorated with vintage tea items. There were shelves of pickle cans- spicy, sweet, and salty.
"Why, hello dear. Your mother send you again?" She stared into my eyes.
"Yes, she did. She asked me to take-" the old woman took out the same jar that mother sent me to get. I smiled. "Exactly. How do you know every single time?" I wondered. The front counter was dirty with stains. I leaned over. "I just always do." She out the jar in a pretty yellow bag, and attached a sticker of her logo in the front. Her hand movements were slow and steady. I took out the exact amount that I needed, and handed it over to her. "Have a great day." I nodded, and walked towards the door as it chimed. "And remeber! There's supposed to be a great deal of a storm tonight. Make sure to tell your mama." She added. "I will." I said.
The door rang as another customer made their way ahead of me and into the store. Another storm? How many of these are we going to get? I couldn't complain, since I adored the rain that autumn gives. I walked more, but decided to quickly make another stop at one of my favorite places. Tannic Cafe. The best place for lattes- Especially pumpkin spice. I entered the dark green colored cafe. The rain was alreday starrting to get a bit worse by minute. My favorite thing about the cafe were its wide windows. Perfect for the rainy season. I entered to be greeted by a young girl at the front. There weren't many people today, just two people at the front, and three working on their laptops. I wasn't planning on staying indoors today. I breathed in the fresh air of rain and caffeine. I walked up to the black counter.
"Hello, what can i do for you today?" A tall boy older than me stood infront of the cash register. "Hm.. could i just have something of your choice?" I eyed him. He turned back to me in confusion. "On it." He smiled and accepted the challenge.
He left to the back, taking a few syrups from the freezers. I sat down in a seat in the corners. Watching the rain platter on the floor. I rested my face on my hands. The people outside were running from the sharp sounds of lighting, or walking peacefully with an umbrella. Moments later, another young girl handed me the tall latte drink. I wrinkled me nose, and soaked in the smell of pumpkin spice. It was a light orange color underneath, foam on top, and cinnamon powder to finish it off. I had planned not to stay- but i think now i changed my mind.
my platformed heels were soaked in rain water, and so was my hair. It was freezing outside, and so was the cafe.
