Chapter 13
Dinner was...interesting.
We did have to ask a "Vision". The map was useless. After taking a nap we knocked on a random door across from ours. I was kind of glad it wasn't the grunge girl.
The girl who came out had curly strawberry blonde hair to her shoudlers. It bounced as she moved. I could see her surprise when she saw me just as well as how she tried to cover it up. I blushed and rubbed my neck, where the most prominent spot was.
Lily stood behind me as I asked her where dinner was. "Oh, yeah! Here, I'll take you with me! Will, come here!" She shouted into her room. My mind jumped out of my ear and all I could think of is 'will Will come outside?' I almost laughed at the randomness of that thought, but I held it in somehow.
Will did in fact come outside. He had blonde hair like the girl, neat and short. "Twins?" I asked. He nodded.
"I'm Emma! It's nice to meet you!" She smiled wide. I smiled too, but immediatly noticed the twins' relationship. Emma was bubbly and talkative, making up for Will's quietness and solitude. It felt weird to know what was going on in someone's brain. I'm used to wondering.
Emma ducks into her room for a second and comes out with a hair clip holding down wave of hair. She floats down the hallway. Will walks after her, slower and more careful. Me and Lily follow. We talk quietly with each other.
Emma leads us down the hallway and (to my surprise) down an elevator that looks from the 1930's.
Lily looks at me with a raised eyebrow. I can't raise one eyebrow. It's both or nothing. I wonder how she does it. In response to that look, I shrug at her.
The dining hall is...
wow.
It was rather small, but still large enough to hold, well,
a few hundred people.
"I didn't know so many exsisted." I whispered to Lily. She looks at the ceiling with an o-shaped mouth. They had chandaliers like the ones in our rooms, only much bigger and much more fancy. There were two long and skinny tables and a few smaller tables on the other side of the room. Most of the people at those tables were older. I saw Aster at one of them. She smiled and got up to walk toward us. People looked at us. Mainly me.
Freaking
skin.
Emma and Will disappear to a table, and Aster grabs my hand and pulls me to the front of the room.
"I-What are you doing?" Lily asks from behind me, also being pulled. It's a chain I guess. Must be funny to look at.
"Don't worry dears, this will only take a second."
No, not worried at all. Carry on. I squeeze Lily's hand to tell her it's alright. Who knows if I ever tell her the truth. I'm here for comfort.
Aster lets go of my hand once we walk the length of the table.
"Visions!" She says. "New prophets have joined us. Please, help us in initiating them."
"Are they gonna give us a swirly?" I whispered. Lily didn't respond. She looked scared.
An elderly woman got up from her seat at one of the smaller tables and fixed her gaze on Aster. Her face was strict. Aster's face was guiltly.
Yet the woman walked toward us and a freaking candle came out of nowhere.
The air around her hands became hazy and colored. It grew more focused, like a camera, until I could see a tall, pale yellow candle.
And this time I got scared.
I thought this whole thing was a (dramatic) welcoming, but now I feel in danger. Magic was not outside of my reality. I see ghosts. Used to. Whatever.
The woman lit the candle by pinching the wick, and I scooted closer to Lily, just barely.
She turned to the room, which was dead silent and watchful. "I, Countess Marelyn, will take these two as my noivices."
Oh, the talk that sentence must have started. I could see it in their faces, the looks they gave each other, the os of their mouths, just like the one Lily had.
We were gonna cause some major gossip here, and I do not want to be here for it.
