Lily Evans was born on the 30 January 1960 to two muggles and had an older sister called Petunia. For 11 years she grew up there having no idea that magic was real, but strange things seemed to happen to her, such as, when she was on a swing she could go really high without hurting herself, and could make the petals of flowers contract just by holding them. 

One day, when she was in the park with her sister, a boy came up to her and said she was a witch. She thought he was just being mean because she didn’t know magic exists, but they ended up playing together often and becoming good friends. The boy's name was Severus Snape. He told her all about magic and Hogwarts, but Pertunia was jealous of them and wrote a letter to the headmaster of Hogwarts (Albus Dumbedore) asking to go to hogwarts. Dumbledore wrote back saying that she couldn’t because she wasn’t magic. Lily and Severus found this letter and Pertunia wasn’t happy about it. She started being mean to Lily and, so was less kind to her from then on.

Lily went to kings cross station, and on to platform 9 ¾ with Severus. They went in a carriage with 2 other boys, who were talking about how they wanted to be in Gryffindor. Severus wanted to be in Slytherin, so he and the other 2 boys, whose names were James Potter and Sirius Black, didn’t get on very well, and Lily and Severus went into a different compartment. 

They got to Hogwarts, and had the sorting ceremony to do. Lily walked up to the sorting at and the moment it touched her head it shouted ‘Gryffindor!’ When Severus went under the hat it put him in Slytherin. Lily was in the house that the 2 boys from the compartment were in and they made 2 more friends called Peter Petigrue and Remus Lupin. As they got older, Lily made new friends, but still stayed best friends with Severus, even though everyone else wondered why she even talked to him. They played together loads, but lots of people hated Severus, such as James Potter, so Severus and James argued a lot and dueled a lot. Severus made friends with people who used dark magic on people and Lily didn’t like that.
