Lesson 3) wand properties and movements
Chapter 4
(This lesson was quite long as of just briefly looking at it so I will have made a lot more notes than usual!)
wand properties:
The wand is the focus for most magic for most individuals. The wand is as unique as the witch or wizard it chooses.
There are typically four parameters that define a wand: length, flexibility, wood and core.
wands are usually found within a range of nine and fourteen inches (twenty-three to thirty-six centimetres)
A wands core is always made from some part of another magical being the most recent ones being unicorn tail hair, dragon heartstring and Phoenix feather. There is never more than one core in a wand, a wand with multiple cores will cause complications and can lead to the wand to violently explode.
wand movements:
Wand movements are one of the most essential components of any successfully cast spell. Almost all targeted spells require that your wand will be pointed toward your target at the end of the movement.
there are many different types of wand gestures just as many as there are different kinds of incantations. Some spells require a swish and others a flick and some require both!
magical limitations:
for every spell you intend to remember you must memorise the precise words and wand movements. Concentrate on the correct thoughts feelings and desires.
The mending charm:
Incantation: reparo
wand movement:inward pointed spiral (continue the movement until the object is fully repaired
willpower:minimal
concentration:high(visualise the repaired object and keep thinking about it until the object is repaired)
notes: it was created in 1753 by Orabella Nuttley. The spell became famous when she used it to repair the colosseum after a particularly rowdy crowd of rival quidditch fans began to fight following a match. It can only be used on non-magical items(it can fix the results of small magical mishaps). It cannot restore something utterly destroyed or transformed. It cannot turn the ashes of a chair back into the chair.
the unlocking charm:
incantation: Alohamora
wand movement: backwards s curving up at the end
willpower: none for simple mechanical locks; minimal to very high for locks ranging from complex mechanical to complex magical.
concentration: visualisation of yourself unlocking the lock
notes: it's also known as the theifs friend. It originated in Africa and was brought to the Wizarding world by Eldon Elsrickle. They used it to go on looting sprees throughout homes in London until the counter spell was invented by blagdon blay. The caster must focus upon the lock to be undone.
