Prompt
For this prompt, I would like you to put yourself in the position of a Healer or Wizard Psychiatrist. You have encountered a patient that you think could benefit from a very low dose prescription of the Forgetfulness Potion. Whether or not you decide to prescribe the Potion, I would like you to write about your decision and why you think it could benefit/harm your patient in no fewer than 250 words. Remember to include the following:
Your patient’s symptoms or diagnosis
The effects of the Forgetfulness Potion overall
The benefits this Potion could have for your patient individually
The harm this Potion could do your patient individually
Your ultimate decision and why (if no, what treatment will you try instead?)
Your expectations of the patient’s outcome or improvement
Journal Entry #78
Today, my first patient was Francis Millbert, a 8 years old boy that has recently been suffering from anxiety attacks. His parents were reffered to me by Dr Thomas, a Wizard pediatrician.
I planned a thrirteen minute interview with Mr and Ms Millbert, and their son. They told me Francis has always been a discreet child, often playing on his own, but it didn't worry them until he started panicking everytime he needed to meet new people. They are considering brewing Forgetfulness Potion to calm him down when these crises occur.
The Forgetfulness Potion is indeed often used in cases of severe anxiety issues. It causes short term memory loss and mild carelessness for its duration (usually 6 to 8 hours). It's not recommanded to give this potion to children under 5, so Francis could use it.
It's a known fact that the Forgetfulness Potion eases anxiety disorders. Francis could forget whatever is causing him to fear meeting new people. He could then see that everything went fine, and that he had no reasons to worry.
I'm always a bit concerned about giving Potions to young children, even Francis he's old enough to take this potion without any impact on brain development. I fear that he could get accostumed to it. I'm unsure that "muffling" his anxiety and hoping that it will reassure him for the next times is a great idea. If it doesn't work, and we have to try numerous times before he starts to accept contact with strangers, the Forgetfulness Potion can have permanent effects on his memory.
I'd rather find the cause of his anxiety and work on it. This is a natural solution, that, maybe with the use of mundane ingredients or hypnosis, would be softer than a magical solution. Hopefuly, after a few sessions, I will be able to find the source of Francis anxiety and help him making it disappear.
