Running off to the woods
Chapter 6
We were off to the Quidditch game, walking up the stairs to where we would sit. I run up the stairs as we get the the platform on the top, and grin.
"Wow," I say.
"It looks cool, doesn't it." Fred grins, walking up beside me.
"Mesmerising," I say as I turn to him and smile.
"Are you two just gonna stand there? Or are you actually going to enjoy the view at the railing?" George asks, walking past us.
"Let's go!" Fred shouts to me, grabbing my hand and pulling me towards the railing.
During the game, Fred and George are cheering and waving their fists in the air. I feel a gush of wind blow from behind me and shiver. Fred takes notice and places his jumper around my shoulders.
"Don't get a cold," he whispers in my ear, looking into my eyes for a second before his attention is drawn back to the game. I feel my breath hitch.
"I saw that~" Ginny whispers into my ear.
"Saw what?"
"You're breath. It's fine though, I like you, so you can date him." Ginny says making me shake my head and look at her as if she were psychotic. How on Earth did she notice my breath?
"We're not like that."
"Right," Ginny says, wiggling her eyebrows.
I'm sketching in my book as Fred, George and Ginny are making fun of Ron's weird obsession with Victor Krum.
"What are YOU doing?" Fred asks, sitting down next to me.
"Sketching," I say, handing him my book to look at.
"Cool!" Fred smiles.
"Mhm, very cool," I say with a smile.
"Okay girls!" Mr Weasley says loudly, "To your side of the tent! Everyone in bed! Now!"
"Y/n! Wake up!" Ginny shouts, shaking me back and forth.
"Hm? What's going on?" I ask, rubbing my eyes. I had noticed the noises in the campsite had changed. The singing had stopped. Now I sounded like people were running and there were screams.
"Just put on a jacket and let's get outside! Quickly!" Ginny says.
Doing as I was told I slip on a jacket and hurry out of the tent. I squint at the light of burning fires and once my eyes focus on the brightness I notice people fleeing to the forest. Loud jeering roars of laughter and drunken yells were drifting towards me. I turn around but I can't see anyone except Ginny, who has now gone and grabbed my hand. Then there was a flash of green light.
"I see my dad and everyone else!" Ginny shouts to me, "Come on!"
Once we join the group I notice another group of people, with masks and cloaks. They were holding their wands at four floating figures.
"That's sick," Ron mutters, "That really is sick...."
"Girls are we all okay?" Mr Weasley asks Ginny, Hermione and I as we nod.
"We're going to help the Ministry!" Mr Weasley says, motioning towards himself, Bill, Charlie and Percy. "You lot get into the woods and stick together. I'll come and fetch you when we've sorted this out!"
"C'mon!" says Fred, grabbing Ginny's hand and starting to pull her towards the forest. The rest of us following. It was dark, the wind and the trees felt as if they were watching us, children were crying, anxious shouts and panicked voices were reverberating around us in the cold night air. Suddenly Ron let out a yell with pain.
"What happened?" Hermione asks anxiously, stopping abruptly and causing Harry to walk into her, then me walking into Harry. "Ron? Where are you? Oh this is stupid! Lumos!"
As she illuminates her narrow beam of light across the path, it lands on Ron sprawled on the ground.
"Tripped over a tree root," he says angrily, getting back onto his feet.
I turn to see a rather relaxed Draco Malfoy leaning against a tree alone. His arms were folded and he seemed to be watching the scene at the campsite through a gap in the trees.
"Fuck off, Malfoy!" Ron says, making me and Harry look at eachother. We both knew he wouldn't dare say that infront of Mrs Weasley.
"Language, Weasley," says Malfoy, his pale eyes glittering. "Hadn't you better be hurrying along now? You wouldn't like them spotted, would you?"
He nodded at Hermione and I, which made me scoff.
"What's that supposed to mean?" I say defiantly, Hermione also waiting for an answer.
"L/n, they're after Muggles," Malfoy says, "sadly, both you and Granger over here are just that. Do either of you want to be showing off your knickers in midair. Because if you do, hang around....they're moving this way, and it would give us all a laugh."
"Sorry Malfoy, but if you don't already know, both Y/n and Hermione are witches." Harry snarls.
"Have if your own way, Potter," Malfoy says, grinning maliciously. "If you think they can't spot a mudblood when they see one, stay where you are."
"You watch your mouth!" Ron shouts, taking a step towards Malfoy as Hermione grabs his arm.
"Never mind, Ron," Hermione says.
There was a bang from the other side of the trees that was louder than anything I had heard which made me slightly jump at the sound. Several people nearby screamed. Malfoy chuckled softly.
"Scare easily, don't they?" he said lazily. "I suppose your daddy told you all to hide? What's he up to - trying to rescue the Muggles?"
"Where're your parents?" said Harry, his temper rising. "Out there wearing masks, are they?"
"Well...if they were, I wouldn't be likely to tell you, would I, Potter?" Malfoy said, his face towards Harry as he smiled.
"Come on," Hermione said motioning me to help her pull Harry and Ron on the path again. "Let's go find the others."
"Keep that big bushy head down, Granger," sneered Malfoy. This time I turned, walking back towards Malfoy.
"You twisted little ferret!" I seethed, lifting my fist as he gave me a dirty glare.
"What are you going to do with that? Give me ring requests?" said Malfoy, making my face heat up with anger.
"Come on." Hermione repeated, dragging me along with Harry and Ron back towards the path.
"I'll bet you anything his dad is one of that masked lot!" said Ron hotly.
"Y/n, if I were Hermione I would've encouraged you to punch that git. In fact I would've helped you make a masterpiece out of his face with the blood he would've gotten." Harry stated harshly as I nodded.
"Oh I can't believe this! Where have the others got to?" said Hermione.
Fred, George and Ginny were nowhere to be seen. I noticed a huddle of teenagers were arguing a little way along the path, and when they saw us a girl with thick, curly hair turned and said quickly, "O est Madame Maxime? Nous l'avons perdue-" (A/n! Yeah so I'm going to translate this for you because Y/n is freaking cool and knows French. Translation: Where is Madame Maxime? We lost her-)
I shrugged, not knowing who Madame Maxime was as Ron scratched his head and looked at her as if she were crazy.
"Er..what?" he said.
"Oh..." the girl had turned her back on him and as they walked I just got out what she said. "Ogwarts."
"Beauxbatons," Hermione muttered.
"Sorry-? What?" I asked.
"They must go to Beauxbatons," said Hermione. "You know....Beauxbatons Acadamy of Magic....I read about it in an Appraisal of Magical Education in Europe."
"Oh...yeah...right," said Harry. "Ah, no, I don't believe it...I've lost my wand!"
"Good job." I said with a sarcastic eye roll. We began looking for his wand but when I checked behind a tree everything went quiet. No crys, no screaming, just the wind.
"Uh..guys?" I said, walking back to where Harry, Ron and Hermione once were. It was dark but I knew they weren't there.
"Guys?! Lumos!" I said as my wand illuminated a narrow beam of light. "Wow. Just my luck. I must've walked into some kind of port key or something."
"Girl! What are you doing here?!" came a voice from further into the forest.
"Er, I don't know if you know or not but there's kind of a group of murderers at the campsite..and like everyone fled here..soooo." I answered.
"The campsite is on the other side of the forest, unless you used a charm you wouldn't have even made it close to here!" the voice sneered.
"Okay..? So..what are YOU doing here?" I asked the voice. It didn't reply.
"I am one with the trees." the voice finally said, making me frown.
"Boy what?" I asked.
"You travelled here by the trees! Didn't you! You foolish young girl! DO YOU KNOW WHAT DANGERS THIS COULD LEAD TO?!"
"Calm down!" I said, looking from one tree to another. "I didn't even know that was possible."
The 'tree' didn't answer. Instead, I felt a sway of leaves push me and within seconds I was back at the campsite.
"I'm a bloody tree whisperer," I muttered. "Cool!"
