Chapter 4
You explain to Gellert Grindelwald that, as much as you love him, you cannot accompany him on his travels because Ariana is in no condition to travel with you and you don’t want to let Aberforth sacrifice his education to care for her. Instead, you ask Grindelwald to stay with you and your family until Aberforth has completed his education. Realizing that he cannot persuade you to change your mind, he agrees to your request, because in his eyes you are extremely intelligent, energetic, handsome and hot. He enrols as a seventh-year student at Hogwarts while you take a year off to care for Ariana. A year later he graduates with ten NEWTs, all of them with a grade of Outstanding, and then takes over Ariana’s care, allowing you to go back to Hogwarts, this time as Professor of Transfiguration under Headmaster Armando Dippet. By the time Aberforth has completed his education, Grindelwald has become so attached to the three of you that he abandons his plan and stays with you. Aberforth resumes his role as Ariana's caretaker, allowing Grindelwald to join you on the faculty of Hogwarts, teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts that he once was so keen on practising.
Some time later, Dippet summons you to his office to give you an assignment. Whenever a wizard or witch turns eleven years old, the Headmaster sends him or her by owl post an invitation to study at Hogwarts. This time, however, sending an owl would alert too many Muggles to the existence of a wizard in their midst, because this particular child wizard lives in a Muggle orphanage. Dippet asks you to visit the orphanage personally and invite the child, one Tom Riddle, to study at Hogwarts.
Tom turns out to be a power-hungry bully. Remembering your own former power-lust, you are reluctant to accept Tom as a student, fearing that he will use the lessons he learns at Hogwarts to the detriment of others. On the other hand, you feel that you don't have the right to deny any witch or wizard an education; besides, at Hogwarts you will be able to keep an eye on him.
If you choose to invite Tom to Hogwarts, turn to Chapter 5.
If you choose not to invite Tom to Hogwarts, turn to Chapter 6.
