Chapter 36

You decide that it's too risky to have such intimate mental contact with Harry while Voldemort is reading his mind.  Accordingly, you ask Snape to teach Occlumency to Harry.  As you feared, the lessons go from bad to worse until Snape loses his temper and throws Harry out of his office.

Harry continues to have these strange dreams, in some of which he is in the Ministry of Magic searching for something.  With each dream he gets closer to whatever it is he is searching for, but each time he gets awakened before he can find it.  His curiosity piqued, Harry begins to look forward to the next such dream, hoping to find at last whatever it is he is looking for.  One night he manages to go farther along the same path than ever before, but what he finds is Sirius being tortured to take something and give it to him (or rather, to Voldemort through whose eyes Harry is seeing), after which he will be killed.  Believing that Voldemort has in fact captured Sirius, Harry resolves to rescue him.  After alerting the only member of the Order of the Phoenix to whom he has access - Snape - he assembles a group of his friends to whom he has taught Defense Against the Dark Arts and sets off for the Ministry of Magic.  Following the path of which he dreamed, he comes to the place where in the dream he saw Sirius.  There he finds not Sirius but a large number of spheres, one of which bears his name, and he picks it up.

Suddenly a group of Death Eaters, led by Lucius Malfoy, emerge from their hiding places and demand that he give them the sphere, which they call a prophecy.  Lucius explains that Voldemort, who only heard part of the prophecy, wants to hear the rest of it and that only Harry - the one whose name is mentioned on the prophecy - can pick it up without being driven insane; so Voldemort made Harry think that he had captured Sirius to get Harry to come and pick it up for him.  Rather than surrender the prophecy, Harry creates a diversion and leads his friends towards the exit.

Meanwhile, Snape tells you that Harry thinks that Voldemort has captured Sirius.  You gather together some members of the Order of the Phoenix and head for the Ministry of Magic.  By the time you get there, Harry and his friends are fighting a courageous but losing battle with Voldemort and the Death Eaters, and you all join in the fray.  Most of the Death Eaters are captured, but Bellatrix Lestrange kills Sirius Black and escapes together with Voldemort.  Disconsolate over the death of Sirius, Harry teleports to your office, more furious with you than ever, until you finally tell him the contents of the prophecy.
