Oh Boy.. Politics
Chapter 3
Don't EVER start an argument with a Muggle about politics, just as a general rule. I've seen people who have been friends for their entire lives turn to enemies over politics. Muggles have some very strong opinions about who should lead their country, be governor, and just overall about their beliefs. It gets pretty bad if you're over in America. Everyone has an opinion, and everyone believes theirs is better. In my home growing up, my parents stayed on top of elections and those sorts of things, but they never got really into it, if that makes sense. My aunt and uncle are very political, so much so that it gets overwhelming. I never understood the importance of getting angry or upset about politics. I get having a strong opinion and really hoping the candidate of your choice wins, but why go on a rampage if it doesn't go your way?
Another thing about politics: you're opinions don't matter unless you can vote. No one and I mean NO one will listen to you if you can't vote. They think you're too young and stupid to know what you're talking about. They think you can't think for yourself and all of your opinions come from other people. But honestly, it doesn't matter if you can't vote. If you can't do anything and everyone tells you that you're wrong anyway, why try?
Politics is a sensitive topic in the Muggle world. Family dinners or game nights can turn into a person getting kicked out. People lose friendships and even jobs. Don't get me wrong, we need politicians and someone to lead. But when it gets to the point of screaming matches and fistfights, I draw the line. When I'm home with my parents I hope there are no elections because sometimes I can't handle all of the drama.
